They're goofy gimmicky cars. It's almost like an XK that Pimp Your Ride got a hold of. "Yo dawg, I heard you like planes!"
I’ll never forget when I worked for Audi someone brought a spiker in because we had the lowest alignment machine, I performed the alignment and got to drive it, I still have pictures somewhere, mine was black with a supercharged Audi 4.2 . Def a neat experience since this was early on in my career and I thought cars were cool 😂

I'm soooooo glad to see so many of you make comments about the backwards ball cap...no doubt being envious, at the same time, of his success in a career that has brought him nothing but joy. You would have just stood there scratching your balls while trying to figure out how to get it started while criticizing the company for not labelling everything like a Camry. I'm 60 and can still be seen on occasion flipping mine around and knowing that's all you would see, is pure joy to me. I hadn't even noticed his grave error until I started reading the comments.
Got to drive one back in 2008, was a blast and that interior was a delight to sit in. The V8 sounded so confident.
In the late 70's I lived only a few hundred feet from the Spyker factory/assembly plant in Amsterdam At that time it was just a regular paint and body shop with a used car sales outside...My father worked in one of the buildings as a car body guy, I remember him telling me that during the war years it was also a Fokker aircraft plant as well, Then in 1979 the paint and body shop closed down and the building was left abandoned..as we teenage boys do...we sneaked inside the buildings looking around...I got up in the attic of the office building and found boxes and boxes of Spyker promotional photos from the 1920's and maybe 30's...the photos were even taken on the street I lived on ( Eerst Helmerstraat, Amsterdam ) as it had a nice playground with a wide background....i kept a few of the photos and then moved to New Zealand where i met a friend who was a Spyker family member and gave him the photos ( Robert Spyker in Christchurch) He is Animal Vet...Fun memories. PS. I was last back in Amsterdam in 2013..the buildings have all been demolished and its now just housing...If anyone would like the address feel free to ask.
I remember 1st seeing that car and instantly falling in love with the mechanically functioning artwork and design

Oh my word, you can feel the passion that Vinny experiences when he talks about the Spyker, its all love and emotions. We lack manufacturers and tradesmen that still hold passion (with profitability) over purely mass production .
When I worked for a Porsche race team at LeMans, one of our guys had a relationship with the Spyker guys and got to poke around a bit with their race cars. Awesome group of guys and such a shame it just didn’t perform and work out.

Great tale! Your skills and knowledge came into play at just the perfect point in time. I felt privileged to sit in a D8 and C8 at the NYIAS in the early 2000’s. My buddy was a friend of Rona from Manhattan Motorcars. When we arrived at their exhibit in the lobby of the Javitz Center, we were let in beyond the velvet ropes to the surprised looks of the other onlookers! Those exposed shifter mechanisms…the stuff of dreams!
When Spyker bought Saab the owner of Just Saab in Cincinnati went out and bought a C8. I got to ride in it, but i wasn't able to talk my way into drive. But I spent most of the time in the passenger seat marveling at the craftsmanship in the interior. It was artful. Then you get out and see exposed stainless steel sheet metal screws on the front splitter/air dam. I thought thst was an interesting contrast.
Side note, the picture of the steering wheel is not the one he was talking about. Early cars had these gorgeous propeller-themed wheels with no airbags, definitely worth Googling. Absolute works of art.
@BrooksMoses
Жыл бұрын
Ah, indeed. One of those is shown at 4:10 in the video (no Googling needed!), and I see what he meant about "completely unsafe" a lot more!
I saw a silver Spyker at the Seattle auto show early on in production. It really is a very special car. The level of detail was second to none.
This might be the first video where I've seen a Spyker actually running ❤

@@MelodyOo I wouldn't call lying in a hospital bed as a vegetable, racking up massive hospital bills, not really counting as a true and functioning representative of your kind...being "alive". First of all Spyker has never managed to get to the level of anywhere near sustainable status, being in perpetual near-bankruptcy condition. And then it had in fact gone bankrupt in 2021. The only reason it hadn't done so sooner is not because it's a viable, actually functioning business that has managed to sell cars, but because it was owned by larger entities which kept it basically just 'on the books'...nearly dormant. Then as the larger company which owned Spyker was itself going bankrupt they had to sell Spyker, at which point there was only Spyker itself, so naturally it very soon after went bankrupt. "In 2020 Spyker announced a return to building cars after being backed by Russian investors" Does that sound legit and healthy to you? Do you honestly suggest they're designing, manufacturing and selling cars, taking care of after-sales? No, it'll be around as a trophy and a money-laundering tool for some oligarch for a few years, then it'll go bankrupt or will be sold to someone else for the same purpose.
That start sequence is the sort of stuff valets have nightmares about.
This has to be one of the best VINwiki story presentations that I have seen on this channel....... Very Cool ..... Very Cool indeed.............
Spijker, the pearl of the Dutch Automotive history, next to DAF and Donkervoort ;)
Spyker is what TVR should have been (appart from the whole going bust thing)
It's Mark Walburg!🤣
A Spyker is a Boutique Car from in and Out. Ive once seen one in Real Life and the attention to the even smallest Detail is Mindboggling. Acceleration and fast is a thing everbody can achieve but that kind of Craftsmanship in Watchmaker finesse is never seen again.
Years ago I would once in awhile go to Park Place Motors in Bellevue, WA, which is an Aston Martin and Spyker dealer, and they had a Spyker on the showroom floor when I went in 2008 and 2010. They said they only make 80 a year for the whole world, and you have a better chance of seeing a Veyron in the wild than a Spyker. Speaking of Park Place Motors, right across the street is the Lamborghini/Bentley/Rolls-Royce dealer, and down the street is Definitive Audio, which sells pairs of speakers that cost as much as a supercar. But in between the car dealers and the audio store, there’s also Ross, McDonalds, Car Toys, and further down the street is Good Will and Fred Meyer. NE 20th Avenue in Bellevue is the weirdest mix of ultra-high end and low end businesses.
Ed's clearly looking to sell his Spyker in the not-too-distant future... It never ceases to amaze me how just one guy can use the internet so effectively to finesse the general populace and artificially drive the price of his cars up!

Spyker. My country’s most recent significant contribution to motoring. ❤️🇳🇱
I think I saw this same purple Spyker in Milwaukee at the old international auto shop on brown degrees road. These guys had lots of high end cars. I remember the Spyker sitting parked outside in front of the dealership with the top down and all that purple leather, the machine turned dashboard, the propeller steering wheel and the exposed linkage shifter. It certainly did strike me as being unusual, my interest in exotic cars was just beginning and I really didn't know what I was even looking at other than the obvious Spyker script on the front. That thing was seriously glowing in the sunshine. 😊

Such a cool story, one of the best of the year so far!
Unfortunately Victor Muller was such a powerful charlatan that he made inventor and designer of the modern Spyker cars leave the company and run it into the ground (“modern” because Spyker is a really old car brand that existed from 1880 until 1926) 😢

Fantastic!!! I have a photo of maybe a Grand Daddy of what you describe. It was taken in 1912 or 1913, when one Spyker visited my Great Grandparents' brand new home, built after the original home burnt down in 1911. There is no firm date for the visit, but the new building appears to be still without some finishing touches. What a coincidence to see this story...

Just because of the shifter I want one! A lot of quirks and features, but all in a good way.
This guy tells stories like Ed. You can hear the love he has for the cars. Some people talk about them as possessions. This guy and Ed talk about them as experiences. They each love the cars they drive and that's the biggest reason Ed doesn't like some cars like his RUF n such, just didn't love the experience he got as much as others.

The alarms sucked, but the company must have made a ton of money in the 90’s as every sporty car was retro fitted with them. That stupid fucking anti lock, and the alarm used to go off sporadically. I’ve dismantled cars with them fitted and it’s just scotchlocks, alarm boxes screwed into bulkheads and foam removed from the carpets. Pre internet was good for company’s just bodging things and they could get away with it lol
I used to see one in St Pete Florida once in awhile
