@@TheBIOSStar Dear Customers, I’d like to update you on the shortages we’re seeing in toilet paper and other essential items. As you may have read, or seen for yourself, these are unusual and challenging times. We know it can be frustrating when we don’t have the products you need, or when delivery or pick-up windows are filled more than usual. We’re working very closely with our suppliers to get products onto shelves as quickly as we can. The makers of Kleenex, Sorbent, Quilton and Woolworths own range of toilet paper have all increased their production to meet this very unusual demand. For example, the makers of Kleenex are now manufacturing 24 hours, 7 days a week at their Millicent, SA factory, as are Sorbent in their NSW and Victorian facilities. And the makers of Quilton have tripled their normal production across their factories in Queensland, NSW and WA. It’s worth noting that the vast majority of products aren’t affected and most stores aren’t seeing significant shortages. But to make sure everyone has access to essential items, we’ve introduced some common-sense limits to a few products. We’ve limited toilet paper to 4 packs per transaction and large packs of rice (2kg and over) to 1 per transaction. Where available, hand sanitiser is now at the Customer Service Desk and limited to 2 per transaction. We’re constantly monitoring the situation and will do our best to keep all products freely available to everyone. However, if we see new shortages, we may introduce other limits. We’ll only do this if we think it’s absolutely necessary and to help make sure all customers can access the products they need. We’ll keep you updated in our stores and on our website as things change. Our team members are doing the very best they can, so please support them, and each other. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this together. Brad Banducci CEO Woolworths Group

@@davidmicka4333 Such BS. Generally around 10% more voltage than any normal module of the most recent type is rated for is still fine. Given that there is 1.4V DDR4 modules and plenty of 1.35V, I 'd say DDR3 with up to 1.54V is still safe. Obviously 1.65V DDR3 is no bueno and should be avoided. For higher clock speeds always use DDR4 if possible. Also rating doesn't say much, some condoms can hold at liter of liquid without bursting and some shopping cards don't break under a ton of load. Both obviously well above what they are expected to take. Why else would some DDR3 boards allow >2V memory voltage? To have more people falsely RMA there RAM because of extremely unsafe settings? Heck, it would surprise me if even 1.6V memory voltage would degrade any recent CPU before it becomes way obsolete and worthless anyways. If you have any studies that prove your point, list them please. Stop the fear-mongering otherwise.

Great work, congrats, mate! About micro soldering, it’s only worth it for really expensive parts, and absolutely not for mobos cause they are almost certainly gonna have bugs in a long run. Basically micro soldering is worth for top notch gpus bringing them back to life, and worthless in almost any other cases

  • @bdhale34

I don't know about that, if a $0.05 resistor is the only part causing it to not work it'd be worth r&r even if it was a budget OEM board. The only issue with micro soldering in these cases is you have to do that before washing off all the evidence of failure.

24:50 Regarding water pressure on pins, most modern faucets have aerators and looks like yours has one as well. Their purpose is to break up the water jet and introduce air bubbles, leading to a very soft flow which doesn't splash around and also reduces water waste. That jet would never have enough force to bend pins. Now if you remove the aerator giving it full blast, if you use a garden hose or the car jet, that's a different league and all bets are off. Applying some common sense instead, if you can still stand around holding the board and washing it without getting a shower yourself, it should be safe enough.

Thanks again for making these vids! Fav method was Waterworld and actually all of them tbh. I bought a gtx 1070ti that seems to have a problem with rust and corrosion due to liquid corrosion, so it would not boot. However I am looking at Hypersonic Cleaners on youtube that people have used on phones to get rid of water damage. I have used a Thermaltake thermal paste remover(1 and 2 bottles) to get rid of some of the corrosion since it was citrus baser which also works well with copper but haven't tested the card yet again.

In my case, I've done that where I work, because I do get paid for it, and the time and effort is peanuts compared to the production downtime that would result from getting a new board and tweaking Windows and whatever proprietary software to run on it. Especially if it's an older board with ISA slots. By then it's faster and easier to fix the board and get the whole thing back to whatever machine it was attached to. For home systems? It better be a top-end board, otherwise they're better off with a new computer.

I've been working in the electronic sector for a long time. Over 20 years, actually. Anyway, it's the internet and I could be anything, right? Well, you can wash electronics however you want (almost), as long as you don't have any electricity flowing while doing it. Also, next time, you might want to "bake" your components before putting power back to them. As a small amount of humidity stuck into the package might make them explode. That's the reason why we use humidor and also "bake" the parts before using them in production. This is also why we like using IPA so much, it evaporates at room temp while also dissolving a lot of "dirt". Also, I really don't know how you do it, but the only way I can actually make money out of selling used hardware is by using broken hardware that I fix. Which brings me nicely to your question. Usually, diagnosing and fixing broken hardware takes me between 30 and 120 minutes, depending on what's wrong with it. And parts wise, most of the time we're talking less then 10 USD. You can also salvage parts off other cards, if you can't find them new. This will usually be less expensive. But it's the equipment that's expensive, the good soldering irons, the hot-air station and the microscope. Diagnostic wise, some people get away with a multi-meter, but for what I do and the speed I'm going at, I need an oscilloscope and a bench power supply.

Its funny how many people think you cant wash a PCB. At some factories certain fluxes are required to be sprayed off with water so they go through what's quite similar to a giant dish washing machine. So long as it's allowed ample time to dry afterwards it'll be 100% fine

I guess all it really takes to remove all excess metal particles is just to blow them away! I'll probably try this someday if I get the chance to do it.

I had a GTX 480 back in the days from Point of View. After replacing its blower cooler with a nice triple fan aftermarket gpu cooler from arctic, it ran since 2011 with a brutal ~30% OC just fine till I upgraded in late 2017! I'm living in Germany and Point of View isn't even a common brand here, but you can find and buy graphics cards from them from online retailers even today!

I had the same GTX 285 like 11 years ago. It was frome Palit. Back in the days you would generally find the exact same graphic card branded differently from a variety of manufacturers. But eventually they were all made by Palit which was the largest graphic card producer in the world.

0:48 That ram is standard PC3-10600R, R means Registered (buffered). It's mainly used in servers where the buffers add extra latency but allow for more ram on the motherboard. It also generally doesn't work with consumer motherboards, nor with many workstation motherboards. With both cpu's installed you could install 6 x PC3-10600R 8GB sticks for 48GB of triple-channel ram!

I resurrected a z68 2600k build which had a 1000W Gold PSU, 8gb and a hd6970. Found it on the side of the road absolutely packed to the brim with dirt, branches and leaves, looked like complete garbage. The dirt was so bad and caked on from all the rain that would have made it in there that I just brushed it up and threw it in the dishwasher. Everything in that build worked which was amazing. Only casualty was the sliders on the dishwasher, they're a bit crunchy from the dirt so I'll be using the tap from now on. Had a thought for the dual X58, I bought an intel cooler for a friends x58 which had a backplate and a screw on heatsink. They aren't fantasic for overclocking but it might work ok.

If it doesn't work, Hit it with brake cleaner! I use literally everything you mentioned on everything from cars to PCBs and I have done this for well over 10 years myself and NEVER have had an issue. CRC electronic cleaner is some really fantastic stuff for anything as it doesn't affect plastics as much as brake cleaner although it doesn't clean as good.

Hey hey Brian, happy new year! Long time viewer and love the yes tech channel. I got a suggestion for a video. Ryzen 3000G vs an older CPU in a similar spec’ed system. Just to see if it’s worth while getting an upgrade to it or stick with a price/perf PC?

That my friend looks like a cold weld, Just re-solder it it should be okay. I am not a professional, bit I solder a lot. That spot on this board most likely just needs to be heated so it permeates the joint. It is a little difficult to see in the video. But if you have someone else do it on a $60 board you will pay $120 an hour and it's not worth it unless it's a very expensive board. Edit addition: Do you know what WD 40 Stands for and what was its original use??? Scroll down to find out after you comment. Water Displacement 40th try and was used on rockets in the space program. 1960's kinda rockets.

He could learn how to replace a cpu socket with a heat gun, flux and a soldering iron. Should not take that long to salvage a motherboard with an repairable cup socket. Could be worth it with some of the motherboards at least.

This is a nasty joint but it looks like it was already touched up at the factory, somewhat sloppily which is why it looks like this. The pin must have failed visual inspection when coming off a wave solder machine and the inspector redid it real quick and sputtered a bunch of flux around it. Cold joint is a possibility since it looks like a ground pin.

Pcb's are made of fiberglass and copper and various metals, brake cleaner does not affect any of those materials in a negative fashion. In the automotive world it only has the potential to eat certain types of paint that are usually rattle can based

I used to be scared shitless of trying anything else than compressed air in my rig, and i treat my parts with surgical gloves. But i see a fine layer of dust on my components that won't come off, i'll try break-cleaner (maybe washing) in the near future. Also I've never taken apart my old gpu to change thermal-paste so i'll make it a habit.

Oh man, Point of View GPU... Back in the day i had Point of View GF 8400GS and i had so many issues with it. It would work fine with normal non-gaming usage and with 9 out of 10 games it would freeze both image and sound 5 minutes into the gameplay. The weirdest part was that i was constantly updating GPU drivers in the upcoming years hoping that would fix it (yeah, i was naive), and after 2 or 3 years it started working fine out of nowhere! I was super confused. Before that I've tried every single solution i could find on the internet (back then i was around 16-17-18) and it finally started working when i no longer needed it after 20+ driver updates. Up to this day i have no clue what was wrong with it and how drivers several years later made it work properly. It finally died when i tried to change thermal paste for the first time, i put too much and it spread all over the PCB, it was a cheap Gigatech (or something like that) paste with ~1$ tag so it was probably electro-conductive. Nowadays i use Arctic MX-4, better safe than sorry. Thanks for the trip down the memory lane :)

Point of View were a reasonably well-known AIB back in the day. It's a Dutch company that's been around since the 90s. Never owned one of their cards myself, but you saw them around here in Europe. They were still making Nvidia cards right up to the Maxwell era, but declared bankruptcy in 2016 and got out of the graphics card business after that. They're still around though, but selling budget tablets and smart watches and things like that.

Really need to make sure all the water is off when you wash any pcb, BUT the issue is you won't be able to get the water out of the joints and or under the tiny components, but i saw you using a hairdryer, that's the only option. Washing pcb's in water you can cause minute spots of corrosion in the solder joints. Respect to you for going where others fear to tread :)
