Duolingo music is basically just for learning sheet music in my opinion. It is not connected to an actual instrument in any sort of way. So, get an intrument.

Since Duolingo Music is an instrumentless course, Learning sheet music is basically the only thing they can do So yes you’re right Still great for learning music theory though

I think what they said was the original purpose of music was to help people learn languages better. I doubt they had plans to make it a stand-alone subject…at least not yet. Oh, I’ve got an associate’s in music. I’m using it to brush up on what I used to know notation. Writing was better than actually playing.

I have been singing all my life, and I always wanted to learn an instrument, like most of my friends in high school and college, but my family was poor and we couldn’t afford instruments. They did get me an electronic keyboard. Fairly affordable back in the 90s, but we couldn’t afford professional lessons or tutors. I was getting by barely sight reading, just learning to recognize where C was on the page, remembering how it sounded like, and getting through high school choir that way. Duolingo music (the free version) finally gave me access to practice, so now I finally feel like I’m learning music and sight reading, after 40 years. Yes, I’m still a poor bastard. College doesn’t magically fix your money problems.

I think I’m on unit 26 I might be wrong tho it’s pretty fun I loved playing symphony no. 7 and Mary had a little lamb sometimes it goes a bit fast when playing the songs but that helps you learn. Soon I will take irl piano lessons so it’s good to have some background.

lf your On unit 1 then first you are going to learn the note C and D and after the 2nd level of unit 1 then your going to learn the note e so that’s why C,D and E are your first notes at unit 1

Which fingers do you use and how do you position them? How do you grip the phone? I was just using my thumbs for the first few lessons, but I'm not sure if that will be viable once the other keys are included.

Honestly I think for unit 70 they should add both hands playing like we’ve mastered one hand and it will do easy songs with 2 hands first then harder ones so you might need to switch to a bigger device or they might need you to have a real piano and it will find the sound

How did you get it in the app? Also is it on Android because I'd like to learn piano as well, but most apps make me pay.

You should train your ear. To validate which level you are at piano, they will play notes and you have to tell them which note it is or which chord it is. So shortly, yeah you should do it.

Unfortunately it’s mainly just reading music. Trumpet is a transposing instrument as well, meaning it won’t sound the same if you were to play a C on a piano and then a C on trumpet

I finished it before you so I'm better (jk) Anyways, The majority of the course is just music theory using a piano. I rate it below average, it is mainly for beginners who don't know anything. The course format is pretty consistent throughout the units, where you learn different notes, where they are on the sheet music, and where they are on piano. The only problem (that I don't have, but I'm sure beginner musicians do) is that the course throws you into music extremely suddenly, where it doesn't give any explanation on what is happening, You just have to follow along. Overall I give it a 4/10
