    It goes to show that everyone wants a new Jason movie. (I mean the last time we saw him was 15 YEARS AGO!) And because the rights have been so messed up, so many filmmakers have made homages, rip-off, parodies or just simply made fan films dedicated to the F13 themselves.

    I agree, it just really wanted me to look at a Jason movie. This movie had a lot of potential, but did they have to show him walking through the woods so much. That crap was making me tired.

    Yep, I agree. I considered Johnny like a diet-Jason Voorhees. Not bad by any means but I feel the Friday the 13th crowd really gravitated towards this film because of that vibe. People really are itching for another Friday the 13th film.

    I loved this film. I feel like the director was very inspired by the story telling that is done in open world video games. 3rd person over the shoulder with the story being pieced together by overhearing people you come across or visual storytelling. There is a very cool sense of okay so the legend of Johnny is true in this world, but depending on the character you hear it from there may be some differences in what is believed about the story. Also loved the change of perspective at the end, as it did a lot to create the tension. Whereas when we are following Johnny as the audience you feel safe. You can watch the horror knowing that you are behind the brute, but when he’s no longer in our sight, I was staring at the woods thinking that he is somewhere in this frame, but I can’t see him and that is unsettling. This movie is definitely going in my Halloween rotation every year, but I am also the person who loves The Outwaters, Skinamarink, and every Cronenbergs and Lynch film I can get my hands on. So if you aren’t in to art house it may just not be for you and that’s fine. But we need people pushing the boundaries like this to get new experiences and stuff like this is why I love film.

    I liked the ending after it ended. After she begins running (not really a spoiler?) it was clear the director wanted to build tension, playing off PTSD and played that until the very end - everytime I'm thinking oh this is it ... nope. Wonderful at building tension after setting the rules and expectations.

    @@BenjaminKurugaExactly! I loved the ending. I appreciated important detail of the strange(r) lady doing everything in her power to keep the final girl from falling asleep and passing away due to blood loss and trauma. I’ve seen a lot of comments on multiple reviews dismissing her efforts as unnecessary rambling, when it was the perfect combo of a realistic rescue + a bit of paranoia in wondering if she also had ulterior motives. Then the final girl’s inability to relax on the pit stop, even though she was finally safe and MILES away from the killer, was such a devastating moment of helplessness. We know that she will forever feel like she’s being followed.

  • @cgCAMMRN

    @cgCAMMRN

    The entire film is shot from the Killer’s Perspective. The camera begins to follow the woman as she is fleeing the woods. When the girl fleeing the woods is entering the pickup truck, something whispers from the forest and her entire demeanor changes. One could argue she was in shock and slipping out of consciousness. However, my interpretation (partly based on the camera following the perspective of the Killer) is that the traumatized girl becomes the killer. The final scene, the girl has blood appear on her cheek. I believe she killed the woman driving her to the hospital. Why? As the stranger in the truck says, “Some animals kill for no particular reason.” I could be completely missing the point, but that is my interpretation. Curious to read your thoughts and criticisms of my take.

    Kinda sad that the biggest Friday the 13th film we’ve gotten in 10 years or so is a movie that can’t even call itself that, even despite it most likely being based on a unused script for a Friday the 13th film with how much it gives off that vibe.

    I loved the no music, the crunching grass , the insects sounds, etc. I grew up in a very rural country area much like this. For me the nature sounds, long walking, was very immersive! It brought me back those summer country moments, but juxtaposed with this horror. Also loved how the nature sounds changed at night near the end. I agree for the campfire scene. Still give us the story, but let's see the killer do some behind the scenes prep.

    Honestly I really liked it! I would say the only thing I would hate about the film is that it’s not a lot of fun since I love slasher movies that has that fun gory moments! But I think in a violent nature works since it’s something very different, gives me Friday the 13th vibes and is doing its own thing, although it is very slow and I can see why some people may get bored by it, but I love that it is supposed to be serious. And the one kill scene really shocked me! And the only thing I really loved about the whole movie is you get to see the Killer Prospective throughout the entire movie and that’s what I really liked since now I can now see what Jason or Michael or any other slasher does after they kill their next victim!!! Overall I really liked it! I’ll only see the movie again on digital, and also really liked your opinion and videos!

    It felt like I’m in the middle. I enjoyed the movie, but nothing about it really stood out aside from the cinematography and killer. I never found it boring, but I never loved it either. One character cannot make a movie great. There’s only one thing that bothers me a lot is how the naturalistic cinematography really clashes with the dialogue which feels like generic movie dialogue. Also the ending was not great. I feel like it makes sense, but they needed to find a way for it to work better.

    I wish his senses were highlighted more from his POV. Like the sharpness of his hearing. There were a couple of times when he would be far away from his victims and his hearing seem to put him right next to them especially with his last brutal kill, Jean Jacket Hero. Maybe that’s why the crunching of the grass was so prominent. And to add on to your point about the “teleportation.” That was a missed opportunity to chop down the “boring” parts. It would have been awesome seeing his knowledge of the woods and what shortcuts he would take to get ahead of his victims.

    I wanted to like this movie so badly...but for many of the reasons you talked about, I just walked out of the theater feeling really disappointed. I could get past the acting and dialogue, I wasn't expecting perfection, but the nature shots and extensive walking were just too much for me. I was fighting sleep at certain points because some of the sequences just overstayed their welcome. The yoga kill was top notch! It unfortunately was not enough for me to redeem the movie, but I respect what they were trying to do. I would like to see another attempt at this type of movie, I think they're on to something here even if, in my personal opinion, it didn't hit the mark.

    To be honest I liked this movie a lot. Going into it, I already assumed the movie was going to be exactly what it presented, though it was corny at times. Was it boring? To some, sure. That felt like the entire point for this movie. A lot of people hoped for more tension in this movie but we are watching from the killer’s (Johnny) perspective, what tension *really* exists for him? Or any killer for that matter? What else could he be doing? I considered so many aspects from movies this one takes reference from because they’d be doing the exact same thing. The final girl and other supporting characters were typical and added little depth much like many other characters in Friday the 13th , the kills were sick (people even laughed in my theatre), but it was a fun watch. I like how they didn't focus on whether he would do anything (cutting phone lines, popping tires, etc.) and stuck with him just catching up to them and simply *searching for a necklace.* Also, I love that it ended with the unknown for him because we think he's going to reappear but..he doesn’t. The story definitely needed work but with the budget they had, I thought it was a great experimental film and felt like it was making fun of the tropes we’re used to.

    I agree, but one issue I have with the film is that it needs to pick a lane with Johnny. He is described as slow/simple at one point, which is backed up by the scene where he's playing with the car on the keychain. However, in other scenes he displays intelligence in setting up traps, such as when he sets off the car horn and walks around the cabin to get behind one of the campers.

    @@Ryans_world215 I really liked how the 2009 F13 movie struck the balance between Jason as simple-minded, but also an extremely proficient outdoorsman. The 'follow the killer' format would definitely benefit from showing the setting up of traps and use of tunnels/shortcuts. It would give the audience something to watch that's more interesting than walking through nature for long stretches, and less expensive for the filmmakers than insane practical effects (not that anyone would complain about a few more of those).

    I haven't been able to catch this in theaters since it only has a few showings at odd times, but I'm definitely going to catch it once it's streaming or on bluray. I actually...like...the thought of the slower pace. I like the build up and I like the fact that they tried to do something a bit different. There are tons of slasher movies out there that use the same formula already. If this is a walking simulator version of a Friday the 13th movie then I'm down. My favorite parts of slasher/horror movies aren't the gory kills; the build-up is what gets me.
