I Finally Played The PS3’s “Halo Killer” And Wow.. (Haze - 2008)
Ойындар
If there's one thing I remember well, it's the 2008 press buildup surrounding the PlayStation 3. This was supposed to be the year the console was really going to shine with a lineup of exciting software. And to it's credit, 2008 was indeed a good year! Except for Haze, a PS3 exclusive from Free Radical Design. At the time a lot of the buzz surrounding this game was that it could be a 'Halo Killer', and that absolutely did not happen. And I never actually played it, until now. Audience gasp I know I know, I too have good taste.

Right now I would agree but in 2008 I feel like there was still hope for Ubisoft. AC in it's infancy, FarCry 2 just coming out and Just Dance just around the corner. They felt like a studio with some promising IPs back then. Then the 2010s happened to Ubi and that was a big yikes!

Ah, yeah. 2015. Halo 5: Guardians. Still to this day, the franchise hasn't recovered from that debacle and is now more "moderately popular" rather than "mega popular". Sucks too, because after they got their act together in terms of managing the game, Infinite is actually good. Not perfect, but certainly better than Haze!
Haze was the very first fps game I've ever played (in its entirety) and I loved it as an 8 year old. I played it and beat it at least 10 times. And then I got MW2 the next year and then realized just how bad Haze actually was

Unironically this game had a really really good and unique multiplayer, both factions had totally different skills and some of the maps had neat ideas i.e rebel faction starting as a prisoner, needing to escape to respawn armed and then assist teammates in escaping and so on. I wasn't expecting to have my heartbroken in a review of a game I never played. But then I learned Battlefront 3 was all but completed, ready for launch, and just never saw the light of day. I weep. Edit: The corpse despawn being diegetic is actually pretty near, and the way the story just ends so abruptly screams to me that they were rushed to release. I wonder what more they'd have done with it, though think it probably would have just been a simple both sides bad narrative. Would have liked to see it become more than it did.

Quite a good review. The only mistake I found that lot of game reviewers doing, is selecting difficulty which is quite easy for them, so they feel boring. "Pretending to be dead" works much better on hard difficulty, when you have split second to decide if you wanna to pretend and hope that your squad move enemy from you, or take your chances. Also fight with elite soldiers doesn't seems so hard, and spike difficulty not so steep at the end, because previous fights wasn't so easy. Server room fight is definitely the hardert. Also game glitched on me there and I didn't get checkpoint after I finally survived at the server room, so next few corridors I fought like an animal to not die and go back to server room fight again. I think at this moment Haze became the best console shooter I played for years. Anyway, thanks for review, I always like to compare my experience with someone else.

Killed any hope of getting Timespitters 4...
Fun story time: When I played this game, I never used the Nectar mechanic--I found the game just too easy, I didn't *need* to be juiced up to kick ass, I was doing just fine. But there's a bit in the game where your character is *supposed* to be feeling negative withdrawal effects of the drug, and it's played as a revation for you about how much you relied on it, but since I didn't, I was genuinely confused what was happening and I remember being disappointed they dint have an alternate event for players that didn't use the drug.

Didn't they force you to use it at certain points? Like the parts where it malfunctions.

@@leatherhidegaming not that I remember, but I also haven't played it in *quite* some time.
Wowwww!! I had this back then on my first and only fat ps3 I thought it was a great fun shooter! Used to play multiplayer/co-op with my cousins all the time
Wow! Classic. Another memory unlocked from the vault
Loved hearing your thoughts and review on how bad it was
I was hardcore on PS3 and never once heard anyone utter Haze as a "Halo killer". I think someone was reading into troll forums too much for this to become a narrative at all.

I never played it but at least in my country the press hyped it up as a Halo killer.
This game was great. Back in the day as a kid this game was so much fun
The disk art is badass!!
Technically the devolpers never titled it a halo-killer; it was just what the news coverage said, and then that was substantiated by it being a console exclusive fps on the rival console.

The developers were never fond with the Halo Killer title. It’s what the marketing chose to take advantage of when it became a ps3 exclusive. It’s honestly kind of sad, so much was out of Free Radicals control with Haze’s development
Haze still the best game artwork iv'e ever seen
I remember beating the whole game on hardest difficulty a couple years ago. Wasn't a fan either, but the story had potential I guess. Was a little bit challenging from what I remember, especially the last level or 2.
Something to note the nectar and playdead mechanics worked in multi-player. Shooting somebody's nectar tank and watching them shotgun their teammate was very satisfying.
The only way haze kills halo is when you use it to scratch the disc of halo

I remember my cousin and i playing this when he first got his ps3 when it first came out. We were amazed by the technical upgrades and this game was awesome. Of course, because it was a shooter we enjoyed it lol. We were young and obviously HAZED & confused
I remember being in a store and hesitating between this game and uncharted 2 (back when I was still buying game on the box alone) I realize now that I made one of the best decision of my life

You bought haze?
A buddy and I played the multiplayer alllll the time. I still play it once in a while for the nostalgia Edit: just remembered that the randomly generated names can eventually spit out "hank hill" lol
What's that lofi song playing In the background throughout the video? You didn't put the song in the description so I couldn't find it
I worked at Game Stop at the time of this game's release. I remember all the hype following it and I also remember, that soon after the release of the game, the store ended up with a huge stock of used copies of the game.. 🤷♂Never did I play it and judging from this video I did not really miss out on anything. But that cover art though..😎
Ahh yes Haze. My favorite game that is objectively bad. If only things could have been different with the IP and Free Radical having other issues. Glad you took the time to play through it at least.
When that Trophy sound was going off I thought HAZE doesn't have Trophies then realised it wasn't the game doing that :D + TimeSplitters1/2/3FP by FRD was AMAZING on the PS2 & this game was nothing like their normal games(& now I know why) :-/ Hopefully one day we will get a TimeSplitters Trilogy update on PlayStation :P (+ it's GOT TO HAVE the 4 player split-screen mode to because that was BRILLIANT especially in TS2) :P

Agreed. The team is back together and working on a new Timesplitters game right now :) Also really hoping for 4-player split-screen as that's what TS was all about for me

HAZE didn't have trophies, no. It's an edited sound effect in the video.
I got my PS3 on Christmas 08 and one of the games (maybe the only PS3 game, I got a bunch of other PSP games That Christmas) was this Fall of Liberty game, I haven’t even looked it up in years but it’s one of those “it stays in the memory but I don’t wanna play” type of games, it took place in WW2
My friend and I used to play this game never really paid attention to the story but we always had fun playing it lol
Who would have thought that if we just waited long enough, Halo would kill itself? 🙃

😁👍 this was way funnier to me than it should have been especially as I've played nothing past Reach.
If Haze had come out on ps2, everyone would worship it.

It's development would of probably been smoother no doubt.
Do you use a capture card to record your game footages?
My friend and I quite enjoyed the MP and we’re ranked top 10 on 3 of the maps.
Only thing it managed to kill was Timesplitters.

@Nero The Chosen you are a spesh, so is your upvoter. Haze killed free radical, the death of FreeRad meant no more timesplitters, short form: Haze killed timesplitters. Also read my username, it’s clear I like the series.
