Don Henley on drums and lead vocals, Randy Meisner on bass and background vocals, Glenn Frey on acoustic guitar and background vocals, Don Felder on double neck Gibson guitar and background vocals. Joe Walsh on Fender telecaster guitar and background vocals. Felder and Walsh dueling solo is legendary!!!!!

10:30 you want to have to think about the fact that this was 1977 and they're singing live with no extra equipment to make them sound better this is what they sound like live and this is what they sound like recorded that is what makes them one of the best bands of all times

The Eagles set the standard for the best groups having three guitars and all members can sing. These are the most successful bands because they wrote, played and sang their songs. This reduced the interference by record companies and the band got all the cash. No studio musicians or songwriters to pay behind the scenes. Don Henley and Glenn Frye were smart leaders. Every band member has released solo albums and sang in the lead on a variety of Eagle song. This is the band that wrote the manual for success in rock music.

My husband is a retired drummer. He often sang 4-5 leads per show. It’s not where the drums are located that’s the hindrance. Imagine, if you will, moving each arm and leg independently AND singing. Drumming requires energy and oxygen. Phrasing and getting a breath requires a lot of skill.

Randy Meisner on bass was an original member. He left the band after the Hotel California tour. He sings Take it to the limit. This is an awesome song where Randy hits some real high notes. He quit because he didn’t feel like he could hit those notes night after night on tour. The crowds loved Randy singing this song and Glen Frey got pissed that he didn’t want to sing it.

That dueling guitar solo between Felder and Walsh is legendary. They were so in sync it's unreal. They are the best of the best. Glenn Frey (pronounced fry like eye) was a master with the arrangements, and he and Henley wrote most of their songs. Felder came up with the opening riff and Henley and Frey ran with it from there. And Henley playing drums while singing lead on such a wordy song... These guys are rock and roll Gods. Their live shows sound as good or better than the studio versions of all their songs. Not easy to do, but they make it look like nothing. RIP Glenn 🥲

twin leads used to be a common thing. Skynyrd, Allman Bros, they all did it. We called it "cutting heads" back in the day. Swapping licks back and forth. The thing about the Eagles is every one of them could sing and write. All had solo careers alongside the group. as for the3 bass player, this one was Randy Meisner and he sang one of their biggest hits "Take it to the Limit" which showcases his tenor voice. When Randy left Timothy B. Schmidt replaced him and he sang on the hit " I Can't Tell You Why"

  • @michaelmeltomc3117

Joe Walsh had recently joined the group I believe in 1976. Prior to that he was with "The James Gang" best known for "Funk 49", and his solo career which was amazing in itself with "Rocky Mountain Way" amongst his most popular signature songs. He was the one wearing the bandana on his head in the guitar solos.

  • @vixybanker
    @vixybanker Жыл бұрын

The "solo" was really 3 guitars (the double neck being 12 string on top and 6 string on the bottom), however, you are correct it was a 2 guitar solo b/c only the bottom neck of the double neck was used. The Eagles were the hottest ticket when I was a teenager, although I was a Zep head. When I did see The Eagles, I was NOT disappointed! As you saw, they delivered live what they gave on vinyl. I saw them in '78.

There is a Fender bass, played by Randy Meisner., and he was definitely a member of the Eagles. The top of the double neck guitar is a 12 string guitar, the bottom is the usual 6 string. If you don't know the difference between a 6 and 12 string guitar, you can look it up. You must listen to the live version of "Take It To The Limit" - Meisner sings lead. He has an amazing falsetto voice. I wouldn't call this the best solo either, because it is a duo. I would call it the best guitar duet ever.

In the song when it says "warm smell of colitas rising up through the air", Colitas is the Spanish word for "little tails" and refers to the tips of marijuana leaves, which were said to be the most potent part of the plant. I lived in Texas for several years and I do believe that is a fact. Lol. The song brings back so many memories. Thank you for sharing.

Here is a link to “Take it to the Limit” with Randy Meisner singing (he was an original member of the Eagles ). There was a bunch of drama with Don Henley (drummer) and Randy. Every time this clip gets released Don Henley gets it pulled. This live version with Randy is better than the studio…and far superior than anyone trying to replicate Randy once he left the band.

May all the Eagles that have passed on be Remembered be Remembered and R.E.P.

Holy rabbit hole... So many killer songs. Also, Eagles songs lead to listening to Don Henley to Joe Walsh to Glenn Frey. Edit: Double neck allows you have 2 guitars. His version is a pretty common layout of 12 string and six string. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Vaughn play the same double neck at once on "Pipeline", which is worth seeing.

On the double necked guitar, one neck is a standard strung neck while the other is strung as a 12 string. The 12 string is strung like a normal six string but each string is paired with a light gauge string that are tuned all the same giving those six strings a unique tonal quality.... I think....lol. Take a look at the tuning head on the upper neck & you'll see twelve tuning pegs.

If you get a chance to see them go for it, they still sound incredible. If you want more songs with guitars dueling check out Thin Lizzy Emerald or Black Rose, Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird and Iron Maiden The Trouper and Aces high. The purpose of a double neck guitar is that you have two completely different sounds, usually a 12 string on top and a normal 6 string on the bottom.

Another two guitarist solo is Lynard Skynard live at Oakland Coliseum.. the song is Free Bird.. the double neck guitar (this one anyway) is a 12 string on top and a regular 6 string on the bottom.. the 12 string gives you that ”jingle/jangle” sound at the start of the song.. and the bass player is part of the band, and does some lead singing at times too..

Just an absolutely classic performance from one of the greatest bands of all time. The guitar duet gets better every time you hear it. So many good songs to listen to, try my personal favourite "Peaceful Easy Feeling".

Don Henley (the drummer) sings lead on this, but they shared lead singing duties around, dependent upon the song. Randy Meisner played bass, Glen Frey played acoustic on this, but also played piano and various electric guitars - normally as rhythm. Jo Walsh and Don Felder shared lead guitar duties and frequently played lead breaks of each other as they do in Hotel California.

That hypnotic, instantly sedating, instantly likeable opening guitar solo riff was created by Don Felder, the one on the white Gibson SG double neck, and has been voted one of the top 3 opening guitar riffs of the 20th century, if not #1. It's beyond classic...more like EPIC. A double neck guitar can be tuned to 2 different tunings, 2 different electric pickup settings or 2 different string types (one neck a 6 string and one neck a 12 string). Not for amateurs.

Yes, you were likely referring to Queen and Roger Taylor on the drums. However, he was not lead vocals, but was back up vocals for Freddie Mercury. he was a damn good singer himself😊 thank you for your reaction to a beautiful classic song. This album was the soundtrack of my parents life together. I lost them both last year to cancer. Brings back so many childhood memories.

You'll find connections all over the stadium albums of the '70's in what was known as the "California Sound" that developed in the Laurel Canyon area of southern California. The Eagles, CSN&Y, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, Warren Zevon, Emmylou Harris, etc., all played, sang, wrote, and produced on each others' albums.

The double-neck guitar that Don Felder is playing has a 12-string guitar on the upper neck and a 6-string on the lower neck. He plays the 6-string for leads. Hotel California uses a chimey 12-string sound for the intro and bridge ("Mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice...", and I assume that Felder plays that on the upper neck during those parts. You can't see it because the lights are so dim during the intro and camera is not on Felder during the bridge. I'm pretty sure that the acoustic guitar that Glen Frey is playing is a 6-string, not a 12-string, so Felder has the only 12-string to get that classic 12-string sound used in the intro and bridge.

This band is called "Eagles" the other band was called "The Eagles." I have heard Eagles since they first dropped a record and always thought that there was a The in their name but I was mistaken. Eagles are one of the best rock bands ever and the guy with the red bandana on his head is Joe Walsh, one of my all time favorite guitar players. He was not an original member but joined a few years later. Joe had his own band "The James Gang" and also a successful solo career. It is hard to hear Eagle songs on KZread because most of their songs are blocked. For some reason.it seems that Don Henley (drums, vocal) wants to keep it that way. Phil Collins is another drummer who sang lead for most of his career (Genesis and solo career) but I don't know of any drummers who drum as hard and also sing, as Roger Taylor does. Often times Roger is singing the whole song through while beating the loving daylights out of his skins. There are a few types of double necked guitars and sometimes they are just 2 six-string guitars that are tuned differently and sometimes thay are a six-string guitar and a twelve-string guitar. I can't recall if I have seen one that was a bass and a six-string or not.

Sherry Heim.......with regards to lead singing drummers, there is at least one more person that deserves to be on that exclusive list. Mr. Peter Rivera is the lead vocalist, drummer, and founder of Rare Earth. Also made history as first band signed to Motown that was not all black. Rare Earth rocks it out and requires as much talent to pull it all off as any band /drummer/singer ever. Your comment is great spot-on information for anyone not familiar with the history of some '70s bands. 🙂👍👍

The Eagles Seven Bridges Road features all five voices singing in harmony. Typically a double neck has 12 strings and 6 strings. But they could be strung for different sounds as well. Rick Nelson from Cheap Trick had a five-neck guitar. Seen both the Eagles and Cheap Trick many times as they used to always play the Arizona State Fair.lol ✌️ 🤠🐂🏞️

12:22 The Eagles lineup at the time of this video was: Don Henley - drums and lead vocals Glenn Frey - 12-string acoustic guitar Don Felder - guitar ( the double-neck guitar) Joe Walsh - guitar Timothy B. Schmidt - bass To be fair, each member of the eagles would sing lead on different songs. For example, Glenn Frey sang lead vocals on "Heartache Tonight" and bassist Timothy B. Schmidt sings Lead vocals on "I Can't Tell You Why"

Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Still Nash & Young where all part of the music enclave called Laurel Canyon, California. Some of the best music of that era came out of Laurel Canyon. The lineup is Randy Meissner far left, then Glenn Fry, Don Felder and Joe Walsh.

I'm sure someone commented on this already but in case not, the purpose for the double-neck is because the top neck is 12-string, played on the intro all the way to the beginning of the solo where he uses the bottom neck which is the 6-string.
