I’ve served in the US Nuclear Navy and will provide what interpretations occur to me: - showers are for decontamination procedures, for radioactive particulate on suits or bodies - the heavy door is a watertight door for isolation and pressure differentials - the control panel lines are as you perceived, though I could tell you nothing about what they represent that you couldn’t figure out onsite or from documentation

Sup Drewski. I actually work at an active nuclear generating station. It is so damn eerie seeing somewhere similar to my everyday place of work just completely abandoned like that. ik youre joking but nuclear plants are nothing like nuclear bombs, and even under the best circumstances, couldnt explode like one, chernobyl is about the worst they can get, and that was just smoke carrying radioactive particles into the surrounding area. The closes thing you could make to an atom bomb with a power plant would probably be a dirty bomb (normal bomb with nuclear material strapped to it that scatters irradiated dust into the surrounding area).
@sleepypixel420

Interesting
@LadZeroUltra
Жыл бұрын
@@sleepypixel420 you should look into the differences more. Nuclear power is one of the safest, greenest (0 air pollution, and the annual fuel waste is only 3 cubic metres, tiny compared to coal) most efficient power sources out there, its much more reliable than solar or wind and we have thousands of years worth of fuel all over the planet. Chernobyl (a plant run by a corrupt and evil dictatorship) was a situation where nearly everything was done incorrectly and nearly every safety procedure was ignored and it still only resulted in an official deathtoll of 31.
@SilverbackE12B
Жыл бұрын
@@LadZeroUltraall facts. Millwrights do yearly maintenance during shut downs. Everything gets repaired and replaced. It’s so strict that you have to show evidence of everything you used. Every single pencil, welding rod must be accounted for. Obviously with a corrupt place like Russia you won’t have a fine toothed comb of safety protocols and regulations. Nuclear is definitely the way. 35% of energy used to run the process is put back in the process. That is a crazy amount of self sufficiency

Brother it was a joke
imagine the designers the facility reacting to learning that the fate of this project would just lead to geeks walking the halls and saying "yoo" over and over
As someone who has worked in both power stations and reprocessing plants, I'll offer a little info. It's not uncommon, at least in the sites I have visited, for "floors" to be replaced by "xx foot level" for the very reason you see in this film. Because the ponds and and reactor vessels go so far into the ground and so far up, starting at the "ground floor" might be misleading. In addition, the reactor hall is usually a vast central atrium, with equipment floors wrapped around it, so might only have one floor itself (whilst still being several hundred feet tall). Basically, the buildings are insanely complex and it's often easier to say "I need to work at the 102 foot level" than trying to relate that to a floor on the outside of a reactor hall the size of a couple of football fields.
I had my luck with visiting Chornobyl in pre-war time, I live nearby, in Kyiv. I wish anybody could see it. Such an surrealistic experience.

@@XIXCentury Just going to drop this and leave, because it's topical and might be wrong. As I (an American) understand it, Kiev is the Russian language spelling, and has been the preferred spelling for many outside of Ukraine for a long time. But it's the capital of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian spelling is Kyiv (just as the Ukrainian spelling of Chernobyl is Chornobyl). Given current events, I'm inclined to use the Ukrainian spelling of things that rightfully belong to Ukraine.

@@SkintSNIPER262 I don't think it's gonna be affected much, but hey. A ghost city mixed with military leftovers adds to the atmosphere, right? The most important thing is I'm sure that the cities, like Prypyat aren't gonna be affected at all. And points of interest like the small old soviet amusement park, or well all the power plant stuff.
The glass with parallax has oil sandwiched between layers of glass. It’s radiation shielding that you’d find in something like a glovebox, or hotcell.
The eerie shot from the complete, pitch darkness from the nuclear fuel pool gave me chills. Can't imagine how crazy it must be to actually be there.
at 22:15 it turns into a horror film till about 23:09, just the slow loss of the friends voice, the added buzz from the single light above you getting louder, then peaking into a hallway of pure darkness followed only by the buzz of the light. spooky
I can definitely see this being used as a training site for a wide assortment of nuclear crisis response teams. Also, I had fun taking notes of the architectural designs as with decades past and regulation changes I doubt you would come across anything like this on a day to day basis. Great collab!
need to take this footage to someone and recreate it in unreal 5 or something and get it in VR for those that can't experience it That would be dope

Well, it's still a small power plant. I once visited the "Kurskaya nuclear power plant", an analogue of the one in Chernobyl. And there the scale is really impressive. The engine room is a kilometer long and more than 40 meters high, the whole complex of buildings is such a labyrinth in which you can easily get lost.
2:10 Drew’s reaction is awesome. Like seeing a big shark in an aquarium when your a little kid.
i have been to an active eastern block nuclear powerplant, looks pretty similiar (discounting the armed security and running turbines). Managed to cause a meltdown on the onsite training simulator, was fun.

18:52 I'm pretty confident that the glass is leaded and there is like an oil in there to block gamma rays from exiting the cage so people can expeirement on the plutoinum.
those hand placed stickers are the circuitry of the powerplant: power circuit, command circuit, relays etc and usually had some small lightbulbs to show that they are active or, depending how was though, they lit only when issues appeared.. The deep 80ft area was where the radioactive rods were placed and depending on the needs they were lift up and let down into the heavy water (H3O). Also the place you entered thru a blue gate, like in airports had a really accurate and powerful Geiger measurement apparatus to read any radioactive molecule n the clothes, suits etc. In the commend center there were some incorporated printers to print via matrix printers the different values of readings from different areas from the plant... to have it documented, like a tachygraph. Power switching rooms, power relays, timing relays etc. I am glad you had the opportunity to take a look at a small sheet from the book of history. A sheet connected to so many bright and really dark chapters in our human kind.
You gotta start doing this kind of thing more often, Drew. Can't wait for this movie to come out.
Very cool man. You should do more exploring of abandoned buildings and ruins and film it. Give us the history and stories of said places and of course the tour of the place.

Man that's awesome, I've probably been to gti a dozen times but I've always wanted to get more back story on the place
Alternate title: "The backrooms: found footage" ...especially that tunnel with yellow lighting and the typical buzzing :p
That big thick glass oven looking window is the sample room. This is where they kept the enriched products. Between the thick glass sheets lies typically water but other fluids have been used, like oil to stop the radiation.
I want to see a video on how this Stalker fan film is made. This place is awesome! I can't wait to see Stalker!!
Seeing drewski so happy like a kid in a amusement park is a mood.
Those switches that look like a cheap organ are what are used to startup the computer, there was like 20+ settings you had to hit and probably 20-30 seconds to get it all loaded. A version of this is used well in 2000s. The indicator that pulled out is probably connected to a sensor and the writing is the ofsets for them. Even thou they look the same in every slot they may act different when switched.
This is cool man, enjoyed this!

If I recall correctly, it was filmed in an actual nuclear power plant, and much of this place reminds me of that set. Pretty good film, still holds up in my opinion.
