I'm disappointed by the softer suspension as you're buying a small car, not a float boat SUV. It should have tight and precise handling, similar to a BMW 3 series.

Because it still does not feel like an air suspension if that’s what you are referring to, it’s softer and more compliant as before but definitely not the softest in the segment. You might be in the 5% here anyway, but tesla has finally listened to its customers and this is what matters for most.

I had a Model 3 SR as a rental while my LR had some collision work done and it was fun sliding the rear end out on turns. It's a very hoonable car and still pretty quick.

Picking mine up tomorrow, same spec as this one in the video. Both of your videos helped me a lot to decide for a test drive which then just made me fall in love with the car. So just wanted to say thank you 🙏

It sounds like this car is a very nice upgrade over my LR AWD late 2019 Model 3. If one has waited until EVs got more mature and your old car is getting to the point where you were thinking about making the leap to an EV - this sounds like an excellent choice. That said, in the real world where families don't pull down six figures or much over that, trading in a good car with, say, 50 - 60K miles for a new car is financially unwise - especially with current interest rates.

Sure, getting an EV was worth it for me too (My wife and I actually have two), but my comment had to do with trading a 2019 Model 3 for the new Highland Model 3. The new Model 3 looks great, but I'm not prepared to take a huge financial hit to trade in my 2019 Model 3 for the new one.

Current Model 3 is fine. Keep it until it cant drive anymore. By then there will be some even better options with even more range and better tech.

Just drove the new highland today and am really really impressed by the great noise insulation and it's soft suspension. Driving it in the capital city of Slovenia where we have lots of roundabounds with those on steering wheel indicators really is pain though

I worry about those indicators, especially if you have 2 cars you are switching between. The muscle memory would be hard to forget. But if this was your only car you'd probably re-learn.

Test drove a Model 3 for the first time last week and I LOVED the sporty feel. Guess I’ll have to go used or take the plunge before the refresh, because I think the softer suspension would be a bit of a bummer for me. (If I wanted it to handle like a soft floaty crossover I’d get the MY)

Awesome video to actually see the new Highland model 3! I like it how you go through the service menu to show the charge status. I was curious also if you can show the octovalve thermal management page as that I think is very interesting to look at during the charging sessions and also when you were on the autobahn to see how hard it actually is trying to cool/heat the components.

Great to see! For us in the US, the high speed is just for giggles. Excellent to know the car can handle to specs.

@@EIonMusk1 wrong, the US has 257,500 km of highway while the EU alone has over 5 million km. In the netherlands we also don’t have potholes in our highways and same goes for all other roads. We also have a much more efficient way of using the highway than in the US, we only overtake on the left and slower traffic stays on the right which is making it much safer allows for more efficient flow it traffic.

Interesting balls-out review, exactly what I wanted to see. Shows that this version is not at all the next choice for me. My company car is now the TM3LR MIC, 2022 model, and comes with all the things I love: firm, go-cart suspension (not harsh though), control stalks for indicators & forward/reverse selection, proper sonic parking sensors that actually work, lithium 12v battery, Ryzen processor, no silly coloured lighting that reflects on the windscreen. I love the safe & balanced chuckability of my version, more than anything. My employer's group insurance would prohibit aftermarket stalks / buttons, so those would not be options anyway. My next car won't be this one.

As an italian who is very passionate about cars (I had A45 AMG, Audi RS3 and RS5), I decided to try to dive deep into this version as it genuinely pleases me a lot, I bought the LR version for 4 wheels drive and the power train, btw going just 200kph on the autobahn is for elderly only ahah I swear that if this car can get me, a great skeptic excited, well, it's gonna get the whole italian market (slowly, we are used to ferraris going around 2000 people towns racing around) Nice content, keep it going!

Really nice video, thank you. Very curious about the reduced range. I sat in a demo car on Friday which was a RWD highland on 19 inch wheels and at 90% SOC it showed 218 miles rated 😮 which does seem rather low considering the alleged improvements. I wonder if there’s some new math to make the rated range display more realistic 🤨

It’s gratifying to see European drivers follow the rules: left lane for overtaking only and pulling over if they see a faster car approaching. US driving styles, with regards to lane discipline, are truly dangerous.

I think a big part of that is that driving lessons are mandatory in the EU. Correct me if I'm wrong but most people in the US practice on empty roads with family members and then just go for their exam.

I did also practice on empty roads with my dad at first but for me at least I definitely practiced on the road. I also live on the border of my state and I've noticed the driving culture differs depending on where you are. The drivers to my north are a lot more reckless. Then there are some drivers in my suburban area that actually go 5 below (what we call Sunday drivers/driving), so I've seen a mix.

The US could really benefit from it, most of the traffic on freeways there is due to idiots driving at the same speed next to each other on all lanes and preventing other drivers to pass. This is so stupid, there is absolutely no common sense in doing this

the only things I am worried about are the stalks, and the price. with the stalks, I hear they can be custom installed so I'm not too worried about that. the price on the other hand, I need the AWD because I live in NY and need to be as prepared as I can be for snowy weather, but how much more expensive will the long range version be next year?

Does it read the digital speed limit signs on the autobahn? Teslas used to have big problems with it.

Coming home and watching a new out of spec video is a highlight of my day

The style of those headlights is SO much better than the original's.

The great thing about low drag and light weight is it makes everything better.. For instance it takes less horsepower to make it go fast.. And so it takes less cooling for a given driving style. Which means it takes less power to go a particular speed. Hard engineering work pays off!

I've always been hesitant on getting a model 3, I've driven multiple but I always felt like they were just not good enough. This seems way better. The only thing now is is the Long Range model worth the extra buck.

That is not quite right - maybe in New York but definitely not in The South. And Germany has their infrastructure problems too ( lots of construction all the time).

The new Hankook iON tires are amazing. Put the winter version of them on my 2021 M3 and it's freaking silent and a bit softer, too.

The LFP battery is the best way to go 100% charging the battery to full ever day which gives one almost the same range as the LR model and it's hard to degrade it too.

Just ordered a highland M3 LR, love hearing that it’s a more softer ride. Most buy these as a daily, not a performance car.

Looks like a good move forward for Tesla. Yeah performance and LR eill be good to see how they are.

Hi Kyle, as always a good video. The only downside with the highland is the removal of the indicator and gear stocks. I’m from New Zealand and we do have a lot of roundabouts which will make it difficult to control the indicators using the touch sensitive button while entering and exiting the roundabout plus having to use the main screen for gear selection when having to make a quick 3 point turn. An 3rd party solution would definitely be ideal.

It’s because tesla knows internally that they are very very close to full self driving so most of the time people will simply let the car drive and the car will do the turn signals automatically

@@zandercerlong7238 I would be happy to be wrong but that’s highly doubtful. Elon just likes stuff to be as cheap as possible. They should have bit the bullet and upgraded the radar 2 years ago when they knew the current one wasn’t good enough. That and keep the USS for parking. Then they would probably have FSD by now but Elon insists vision only but it’s just not good enough.

With vision only, Tesla will be stuck in FSD is almost good enough purgatory. Sure humans drive with two eyes only but we’ve got a massive brain optimized for vision processing. And frankly we still suck at driving because our vision has limitations in distance and speed detection. Sure humans and cars can do those things with vision but the accuracy isn’t good enough. Radar and USS takes care of the things vision sucks with.

Great Video as usual I really enjoy videos and find them so helpful. I just drove the new Model 3 Highland in NZ and I absolutely love it. I found it quieter and smoother than my 2023 Model 3 and I love the new Hardware 4 cameras they really make a big difference. The ambient lighting is awesome too, there are so many things to like about it I am considering upgrading but unfortunately here in NZ we have a new govt who are taking away our EV Rebate on 31st Dec so it will cost more to purchase it if it doesn't arrive by then which is not guaranteed. I found having No stalks was ok but did find it impossible to indicate on exiting a roundabout which we have many here in NZ but I don't think its a dealbreaker for me as many drivers don't indicate when exiting a roundabout anyway. In fact I quite like having everything on the steering wheel especially the camera button as I find it very easy to use.

The current model 3 suspension id argue is almost perfect for non active suspension , just enough compliance but very sporty. The air suspension in s was way too floaty. My favorite car suspension I’ve had so far is the mag ride in Camaro ss. Mag ride is fantastic, would be even better in something like model 3 that has a little more wheel travel.

⁠@@Fumbiii16I had a P90d it was smoother ride, but didn’t feel nearly as good as model 3 in corners. I’ve never driven the plaid so can’t say how the newer air suspension compares. If you just want smooth ride the air suspension is definitely better. Model 3 feels like a sports car, the s doesn’t even though it’s faster. Similar to how bmw m3 was compared to m5.

LOVE the Netherlands! Great review and will probably swap my '22 3LR for one in the next year or two.

Question: Is the nose diving while breaking due to the softer suspension or because it is a RWD car? I love how I can brake hard in my 2021 Model Y brakes without strong nose.

Been watching your videos for quite a while and at 0:35 I immediately recognised that part of the road of the L167 in the german Eifel which I drove hundreds of times :D Didn't even think about you being in Germany nor passing this spot in the middle of nowhere. and on my supercharger too!

Man the people behind this are truly paving the way for the rest of automotive. It’s great to see that they start in China where it’s cheaper and transition to where it’s more expensive like the USA. They know how to scale and others just simply try, but boy are they struggling comparatively

Dunno, I have the highland and after two days I'm used to keeping my hands on the wheel at a set position on roundabouts so that I can hit the buttons without looking. Is it perfect? No. Did I try to hit stalks that don't exist? Definitely. But if that's the only drawback, I'll take it. It's my first EV and it's been wonderful so far.

Hey Kyle! You mention the car is more comfortable but im interested specifically about the seats... are they more firm now that they are perforated seats and because they are perforated, do you see the need to use ventilation? My biggest issue with the current cars was that my back doesn't sweat and kept conducting heat with the soft cushioning touching most aspects of my back and my legs.

Awsome test with a lot of insights!

It’s just disappointing to me that the front camera on the nose got deleted, still no USS parking sensors, no radar for cross traffic detection front or rear, no overhead camera mode, no optional adaptive damping, no HUD or driver information display, and the removal of the stalks is a big flop for me. I loved the Tesla’s easy to use gear selector stalk that doubled as the autopilot on/off. You can do it blindly without having to even look. Same thing with the signal and wipers. Now you have to hunt and peck tiny buttons on the steering wheel that spin around as the wheel moves and also precisely swipe up and down on the display to engage drive or reverse, or use the even dumber roof mounted hard buttons for gear selection. This is added complexity for the sake of being different. It’s not a new and better way and I will stand by this sentiment after experiencing the stalkless steering wheel in an S and X, and the swipe gesture for gear selection.

I agree as far as your first two sentences…..some of those are standard safety equipment/features on some manufacturers. I drive my 2018 M3 mostly w voice commands or steering wheel buttons. The wipers are voice command and it’s menu opens when activated if you want to change their speed. I guess you’d say I am a drive by thumbs operator. Glad to hear someone already working on after market stalks though.

As someone who drives 50 miles every weekday, yes, very much yes. Sure sportiness is fun every once in a while or if you drive very short distances. But if you are commuting or running errands, comfort is what you want.

Although the ride in my 2021 Model 3 AWD is a little harsh on bad roads, I’m somewhat disappointed that the softer suspension appears to have made handling worse, though it’s not a surprise, as that’s the usual trade-off. I love that my 2021 corners like it’s on rails, with minimal body roll and pitch. It sounds like that’s noticeably worse now. Which is sad, because I’d love some of the other improvements, like the lower noise levels, ventilated seats, etc.

Not sure if it was intentional but great move to have the water bottle in the background. Gives you a good idea about vibration and suspension

Got a Tesla Model 3 Long Range refresh last week. Best car I’ve ever had!

Motor Trend also reported the Highland Standard Range at 262 miles of advertised range. Kind of odd that it's rated for 10-11 miles less than the outgoing 2023 model when Highland was supposed to be more efficient, but it definitely makes me feel a bit better about my 2023. I was having major buyer's remorse when people were saying Highland Standard Range would have near 300 or more miles of range at first. I think people were just looking at the Chinese rating initially, which seems to vastly overestimate range for all cars.

Yeah, but if they claimed 10 percent better range due to aero and power train improvements, it should show somewhere. To the surprise of no one, Tesla/Musk lied.

I searched for the Motor Trend article after seeing your comment and its highway performance is even worse than I expected. The excerpt reads: "The updated 2024 Model 3 Dual-Motor Long Range scores 250 miles in this real-world highway test, while the updated Standard Range car comes in at 221 miles. Arguably more interesting, a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Dual-Motor Long Range driven on the same roads under nearly identical conditions just two days earlier netted a MotorTrend Road-Trip Range of 258 miles." I have the early 2022 M3LR with the old battery architecture and USS and my highway range is around 300 miles (I commute 180 miles mostly on highway every week and the car consumes very close to 60% of battery). I really like the Highland's new facelift and reduced cabin noise but I'm sticking with my ride for now. Tesla still has a few more steps to go at refining the 4680 architecture and I'm willing to wait until they do.

@@duerf5826 IMO what's worse is I got around 293 miles last month in a 2020 Niro EV. No a/c needed, tailwind so effectively driving 65mph, actually driving 72mph. For an EV that's supposed to only get 239 mile range. Even using AC would have only killed around 15 miles of range.

I would be careful with these comparisons, since an official EPA number does not exist for Highland. The new Model 3 has around 20km more WLTP range than the previous version (both on 19 inch). MotorTrend did some back of the napkin calculations, but nothing more. They also did compare 18 inch vs 19 inch. Tesla has some estimates, they give the 18 inch version roughly 7,5% more range.

Probably best to wait until we see official EPA numbers, but this number is straight from Tesla themselves as the estimated EPA range, and in the past, they’ve been pretty close with their preliminary estimates. EPA tests have a lot of slowing and accelerating to simulate real world driving, whereas WLTP might be more constant speed cruising, so it could be that Highland is less efficient around town and when accelerating (more sound insulation could mean more weight), but more efficient in constant speed driving.

So does this update make it competitive with the ioniq5 for noise levels and ride quality? If so, I might be interested for my next car.

Man, can’t wait for the performance 3 highland in the USA. My 2019 is great but my neighbor picked up a 2023 sr and it’s unbelievable how many little and big refinements are already in place, so the highland must be $$

What a car, what a step up from Tesla - just wow!

I drove the 2024 model 3 long range yesterday. Amazing car. The model Y has an annoying low frequency rumble from road noise. Can’t wait for the improved model Y.

Kind of a bummer that they reduced vmax. 200+ kph runs are pretty common in Germany and it they weren’t a big issue with the old Teslas. Besides that sounds good. PDC working with or without sensors?

@@50cts I've been following it a bit and it's still far from perfect, falling short of using proper sensors. I've had a Model 3 Performance for over 3 years, and I'm now looking at the BYD Seal. Model 3 Highland is still a possibility, but I'm keen on the Seal, hopefully ahving a test drive next month.

@@pauldoree3967 Had an Atto 3 for a week recently and put several 100km on it. God that software is so far away from a state that you should release it to public. Really can’t recommend it at all for the ridiculous price tag of sometimes >40k EUR and it didn’t even have a rain sensor, wtf? Get a Tesla for that money, it’s a no brainer. I mean the car itself is not terrible but the software messes it up big time. Maybe the seal is better, I’d really recommend to get it for a few days to test drive before ordering it.

Yeah exactly, on my model y performance with the 21” wheels, compared to my winters with 19” the 19’s feel floaty with way worse handling compared to the 21’s

Do you think the suspension on the high performance will be tighter?

The 125 mph speed limit is NOT because of the tires. All of the Hankook iON EVO and Michelin e.Primacy tires on the new Model 3 are V(149), W(168 mph), or Y(186 mph) rated. Someone just made up that tire theory. It isn’t true. It is possible that either the new suspension or the Aero doesn’t allow it to go over 125 mph because of aerodynamic lift. That is just speculation though.

it´s a cost saving measure. If you don´t have to design the car for Autobahn speed, you can choose parts that are cheaper because they don´t have to endure that high speeds like smaller breaks and suspensions with less travel. Every other country has no problem with this through speed limits and for germany the cars get software limited. easy as that. The Model 3 Plaid is rumored and probably will feature a higher top speed with upgraded suspension and breaks.

@@DerDoJo there is no evidence at all that this car has smaller brakes or less suspension travel. However, there is evidence in this video that high speed stability may not be what it was in previous Model 3 cars. That is probably why they have limited it to 125 mph.

@@stevenichols4639 high speed stability is my evidence. If you choose other parts (which don´t really have to be less quality) which will give you nice ride quality for lower speeds in trade off for a lower max. speed, it is a decision by the engineers.

Kyle, take speed seriously. Not sure if giving a review, looking across to see the passenger, for half a second, and gesticulating with one hand is appropriate at 200 KPH+. In just one second you move forward 56 metres. By the time you see any small thing and process it, you have hit it.

Hey, nice video;-) how was the Headlight driving at night??

I'm thinking they are going to put a large difference between the SR/LR and the performance. Make the normal cars more comfortable and better daily drivers around town and hopefully the performance will move more towards a track car.

funny that the new design still have frameless doors... but they want to cut down noise.

@@andreknudsne7648 think about how many more parts you need for a frame with separate seals. And no, the original 3 didn’t come with laminated glass so you don’t have to have laminated to be frameless. Even cars with frames have laminated, so you’re barking up the wrong tree on that point.

@@JetFire9 I don't think frameless is to save costs, otherwise we would see it on many cheap cars like Corolla, Civic, Elantra, etc. But it's typically only found in luxury cars like BMWs.

You can buy them aftermarket. I personally could not care less. As it is, my current car already has a buttons to shift gears and this isn’t far from that.

Aftermarket stuff which voids your warranty or your insurance is a deal breaker for me. Imagine going to indicate and the aftermarket indicator stalk 3M tape fails and it falls off. That’s an accident right there.
