@@donald9825 It isn't a car. Neither is it sold as a car, nor can you immatriculate it as a car, nor do you need a car driving licence for it, nor does it need to pass any kind of crash test. Try a scooter in a crash test vs an HGV or even against this, then you are the n the right category, because that's what this essentially is.

I bought one in Switzerland, the Microlino Competizione, and I love it! For Swiss standard is not so expensive and I managed to get it in the Headquarter in Küsnacht (just close to my hometown in the Zurich area). I own a Tesla Model S and both are my favorite cars! Driving in Zürich with the Tesla is a nightmare (too big, no parking), but with the Microlino is just easy. You are right, lot of noises and rumors, but I am sure they will fix it. So far, I am excited to test it in winter with snow, rain and cold. Nice video as always! Cheers from Thalwil (Zürich)

@@manuel0578 It's totally flawed: -It's a sweatbox which no person in modern times would ever buy: it has no air conditioning! Even the cheapest ICE cars which cost nearly half of that could be had with air conditioning! -It's rattly, uncomfortable, noisy as hell. Just unacceptable compared to ICE cars which used to be available at even under 10K€! -Not fun to drive -Not good for the environment: with the extremely low amount of kilometres this kind of cars are driven ICE cars are lower in lifetime CO2 -Not only are they not safe in crashes, but the cheap, unsophisticated batteries are a huge fire hazard too. -I'm absolutely certain it will have reliability problems before it's been driven very much, and then you'll have trouble finding places to fix it and you'll be surprised at how much different EV components cost. In the proper car world with PHEVs and EVs a simple high-voltage electrics module can cost as much as a full engine swap for an ICE car...maybe the lower-quality Microlino parts will cost a bit less than the proper PHEV and EV parts, but expect surprises!

A German ex-colleague of mine described the original Isetta as the pot-hole-finder due to the two different width axles. Clearly Microlino have never heard it described as such 😊 Hopefully the design (electronics and software) improves and matures quickly for the future models. I would personally love one as a commuter vehicle.

As a very young child (1969) I watched a guy park his Isetta close up to a wall. Unfortunately some of the U.K cars had no reverse gears and he was stuck, shouting out of the window until someone helped by pushing it away so he could get out. That image stuck with me all these years and this bought it back! Thanks!

The Isetta was originally an Iso from Italy BMW, VELAM and Romi built after Iso kinda petered out. Anyway, I remember they used motorcycle engines and transmissions so they had no reverse gear in the transmission, but some sort of 'bolt on reverse' that apparently a lot of people removed because it was unreliable.

All Isettas had reverse. To allow 16 year olds & motorcycle only licence holders drive in the UK, reverse had to be blocked off. This was done with a bolt that stopped engagement of reverse. The bolt would be removed by the owner after delivery.

We have these small cars (light quadricycles) for young drivers in Europe. Most are actually stupidly expensive and absolute Deathtraps with woeful build quality. They’re usually speed limited. Here in Finland you can pay almost €25,000 for one new. So from that perspective a microlino for €23,000 is a pretty funky proposition. The high speed stability didn’t look too bad in comparison to a regular quadricycle.

I just got a survey emailed to me from microlino because I emailed them a few years ago asking them to sell in USA. The survey mentioned that the EU spec car would be limited to 25 mph as a NEV. However, the survey later showed concepts that would go up to the same EU speed of 56 mph or so. I commented that they should do the NHTSA requirements for the full speed and no limitations on surface roads.

I would buy it cuzz it is cool and urban practical and I have a fondness for quirky vehicles having owned a few over the last 60-years like a 360 Subaru, Renault Dauphine and Caravelle, Fiat 850 Spider& X1/9, original Honda Civic, BMW 700 LS Coupe, and may more. It seems today that people are really spoiled by the modern vehicle amenities. I grew up with post-war Austins, Sunbeam Rapiers, Triumphs, as family cars. My first car was a 1948 Cadillac convertible, then Flathead Mercs, Fords, Stovebolt Chevys cars and trucks, 48' through 53' Oldsmobiles, more Cadillacs and Cadillac convertibles, and later V8 Chevies and Fords, and VW's from 55' through 65'. Spent may years driving a 36-hp Bugs, so I'm pretty easy going with any car and its quirks. My first new car was a1964 Olds 442, convertible, over the years many new performance cars followed, everything from Spitfires to a 68' Dodge Charger R/T 440 and a Lotus Europa JPS to several Miatas's, and BMW's. None would be anywhere near perfect by today's judgemental buyers. If it runs and stops, defrost and wipes the windows and is fun to drive, I'm not going to sweat its faults. I would have no problem driving an old Bug or 50' Chevy pickup across the country cuzz I have. At least if it broke, I could fix it on the side of the road. Now I'm not against new cars cuzz they are so much better than the old polluting beasts and safer. And, I'm in the market for a new or newer EV, cuzz I'm done with ICE vehicles. In the mid-50's my dad a Biophysicist said that our future was electric cars or we would have a viable future. He was right. Thanks for the enthusiastic post.

It is like a dream come true, same shape, same door opening, but with all those modern technologies. I can see bicolor versions too, light green and white...very retro colors. Thank you very much for sharing this adventure. Cristian, Santiago Chile SouthAmerica. PD: I think name must be pronunced as _meecro leeno_ (if you are English soeaker), name probablely comes from _Topolino,_ an Italian way for calling Fiat 500 due the measures and grill and headlights. Topolino means Micky Mouse (🤔 if I am not wrong).

Realistically it's pretty ridiculous, as it just burns rubber when giving more than ~1/2 throttle at low speeds. Pretty much everything else about the car is super sketchy as well, haha.

I've followed all the twist and turns that the Microlino took to reach production and have to say that the car as first conceived was completely different car so comparing the price of that car to the one that made it to production is really not fair. And if you don't like the price now - Wait till you see the one that meets US specs and is even more expensive.

The Microlino is a quadricycle. It's L7e rather than L6e so the license and tax requirements could be different depending on which country you're in, but it's not a car. The S04 isn't available yet, but does look promising. I'm sceptical though because the photography still shows it as left hand drive, and there are no circumstances under which I'd want that. Just because of basic health and safety, parking in car parks and using the ticket machine at the gate, layout of the roads and so on and so forth. Hopefully if it comes to the UK and goes into scale production, it'll be a right hand drive model. Inability to do that suggests gross incompetence to me (a concern with the Microlino and Ami too obviously).

The original 1950s/1960s Isetta and Heinkel bubble cars had a standard sunroof more for exiting the car after a frontal crash than for fresh air, and I presume this is the same. You just have to hope that you still have the use of your legs after such a collision.

My first two cars were BMW Isettas, basically this car with an old motorbike engine. One thing that made it super cool, made people smile and made it easier to use was the steering wheel which folded out as the door opened so you had the full width of the car to step into, turn round and sit down and as the driver, you just stood up and stepped out. I’m really disappointed that the Microlino doesn’t have that feature. Otherwise, I love it.

The front door was the flaw. That's what killed the Isetta. It's a shame they wasted weight shaving opportunity and easier ingress and egress keeping the front door flaw. A sliding door on one side is the natural update required missing. Some nostalgia is not wise to cling to.

Reminds me of that one episode of these british guys who often drive odd cars. The older guy drove this tiny car (probably 1/2 the size of the Microlino, through the lobby of company which produced his shows, into an elevator and then through the open office area of the people who produce the show. He was pretty much stuck in there. All hunched over and such. I'm sure someone remembers this and can reference the show.

@@ChristianBehnke I've read all the research, you haven't. I literally have read every single one (any vaguely legitimate ones, and even many illegitimate ones), and I know how to analyse them too. I know how to apply their data to this vehicle class. NO STUDIES say what you claim, as even the most fraudulent pro-EV corrupt studies back up what I said and unequivocally show that with the mileages vehicles like this drive ICEs will be lower in CO2. And furthermore which studies do you suggest even had ICE cars in it using non-fossil fuels? Which ones? Name them! Because without at least including if not directly only comparing ICEs run on even fossil natural gas (which Ffe München has proven to be lower in CO2 than EVs!) or modern biofuels, e-fuels, hydrogen, etc. then it's a fraudulent comparison which is apples to oranges. IT IS 100% CERTAIN even according to the most extreme pro-EV propaganda that at the mileages these things are driven per year ICE is far cleaner even when ICE uses purely fossil fuels and no biofuels etc. at all!

Then we can add to that how even if they were the same in emissions in that narrow scope, if we widen the scope to include THE COSTS of EVs which befall on society, taxpayers, etc. which are HORRENDOUS in scale, that easily pushes EVs into being far worse for the environment! UN Climate Council has found nations' wealth to be the most important factor affecting nations' true ability to reduce CO2. Pushing EVs on people DESTROYS nations' wealth and REMOVES their ability to invest into actually effective CO2-reduction. Do you not have any idea how much EVs cost?? Do you not realise that we need MONEY to pay for CO2-reduction, instead of squandering it on unintelligent weak peoples' emotional, thoughtless, childish indulgences?
