I definitely want to test drive it! I really like the new 5 contrary to others (so it seems), it really is a modern, more clear and sleek design and since the current BMW EVs are some of the best in the market, the new i5 should be a great car. I'm not in the market for one - I'm young and drive an old E39, but I am very interested to see what now almost 30 years of progress have done to the 5.

Just go to the store and buy a pack of AA's that hasn't changed in decades and hundreds of millions of them are made. Yet they keep going up in price. A friend of mine who owns a BMW IX had a light collision with road debris that punctured the front passenger bumper. It hit some critical electronics and rendered the car undriveable. It was at the dealer for 3 months and cost $20,000 to fix. I understand modern cars are expensive to fix but why BMW placed critical electronics directly behind the plastic bumper is a real problem.

I agree the grill is not as bad, but it still has a large piano black plastic grill and what purpose does it serve? Is it just ornamental? This reminds me of what BMW did to the MINI Cooper design with each iteration. Introducing skeuomorphism into when there was a need to eliminate or replace certain functionalities. Replacing a functioning air intake hood scoop with a fake one (the transition from supercharging to turbo). Eliminating the center speedo but retaining the circular trim and dropping in a rectangular infotainment system with ornamental “spacer” plastic. Maybe the grill will slowly become smaller with each design refresh.

I've owned a BMW i4 eDrive 40 for about a year now and I wish I would have waited for the i5, if only because of the roomier interior it provides over the "coupe" configuration of the smaller i4. The mechanicals are all the same....precise steering, nice ride (along with the adaptive suspension), fast enough. And the range has been a pleasant surprise, as it is clearly BMW policy to under promise in that regard. On a recent trip, I drove 243 miles with an indicated remaining range 110 miles (far more than the advertised 282). I'm sure the i5, with a promised figure of 295 miles, can easily exceed that. I average about 3.7 miles per KWH with the same drivetrain, which is very good as far as I can tell.

I'm not sure why you compare to the i7, which has way more luxury? This seems more like a bigger version of the i4, with basically the same features.

Because he can't compare it to the i4 since they're too similar. I can see in the future them dropping the Gran Coupe version of the i4 and going with the 2-door coupe model instead, opting to leave the 4-door midsize option to the i5.

There will be no major change in non Tesla charging reliability until the EV manufacturers start putting pressure on the EVSE providers to improve. It is costing the CCS EV manufacturers sales. Dave’s selling the Lucid is a perfect example. EA and others have little incentive to fix the infrastructure. If my 640i GT had been an EV, I’d still own it.

LMFAO. There are way more reliable EV:s on the market than Tesla. My friends Tesla has been in repair for 3 months waiting for parts. What kind of car company does things like that? In Europe the Ionity Network is great, have been on multiple long trips with my EV, without a single charging issue.

That's the Mercedes CLA and has been known for a while now. The CLA concept was revealed at the IAA in Munich in September. Except for the head and backlights, the rims and the all-glass roof the outside styling will be identical to the concept. At the inside they definitely keep the pillar-to-pillar screen on the dashboard. The revealed stats of the biggest battery CLA model are 4,75m length, 250kW max charging, 465 miles of range with a 90.x kWh battery. The CLA launches early 2025 with a starting price of slightly under 50k. Big battery model will most likely start around 60k. They will also bring a station wagon version of the CLA called CLA Shooting Brake.

Is it just me, or does this look very generic next to past generations of the car? The Passat, ID.7, Accord, and now 5 series all have the same back end. I’m all for taking chances, but where’s the BWM identity in the back? The hoffmeister kink is barely implied. I do appreciate that the grille is not scaled up to 400% like other recent models, though.

Love the content and would love to hear all the details. Unfortunately, ANOTHER HOUR long video I don't have time to sit down and watched. Liked what I saw as I fast-forwarded through the whole thing. Kyle does great work, just need to cut out some of the repetitive rambling to get to the point faster. Likely would end up with a lot more views. Just my 2-cents. Looks like a great car. But any car pushing over $80,000 should have a bare, bare minimum of 300 real world miles in range.

The obvious reason for the E40 to weigh hundreds of pounds more than a Model S P85 is to be really quiet. Missing that is disappointing. At least they dropped the tall grille and avoided the i7's stacked healights.
