What some people don't get, it's that the target customer for the BMW i5 don't really care about efficiency to prefer a Model Y. It's like saying he should buy a Lexus IS instead of a BMW M5 because it has less fuel consumption.

Why all the shiny/reflective plastics inside and out? It looks a bit cheap to me; I still do not get the BMW front. However, it has very nice profile. I am sure the drive and feel is really good. It is a bit strange it is so heavy with such a long hood and no frunk. It must, as you point out, be due to being used for ICE and hybrid versions also. Personally, I would prefer the new Tesla Model 3 performance at half the price... Good presentation 🙂

Armin pronounced the german Guten Tag at native speaker level and also Armin is a german latin name for the leader of the german free tribes that defeated the roman empire 9ad in a big battle close to Kalkriese . Sounds like he might have german roots even though Armin or Arminius is a quite unusual name in germany nowadays. So good evening to Armin and the Munroe team.

Maybe not this fake sound indeed, I don't like it either, same for other EV's. However if you're a car enthousiast, do check out the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. It has a mode which emulates an ICE car, not only the sound but the precise feeling of gear shifts including the jolt through the powertrain when it shifts, the rev limiter at redline, the building of boost and power higher up in the rev range, the pops & bangs, realistic engine sound, the whole shebang. At first I thought it was just a gimmick but every serious car reviewer out there (including Doug Demure, AutotopNL, Throttle house and others) have been raving about it non-stop. Doug even made a separate video about just the ICE car mode off that car. And after having driven one a few days ago I can tell you, it's beyond incredible. Not only does it drive absolutely fantastic but they have succeeded in emulating an ICE car to such a degree that you can hardly tell the difference, honestly. And in that case, the fake sound is really, really cool and adds to the experience to a tremendous degree. It is the first truly fun EV on the market and I strongly suspect other manufacturers will start to emulate it in the coming time. It's a benchmark for what a fun EV can be. I would drive around in that mode permanently even though, because they emulate an ICE car, you lost some performance compared to the normal EV mode, because EV's have instant full torque and you can't do that if you want to emulate ICE. It's the first car that really has me considering an EV for my next purchase. Check it out, it's very cool

@@JT_771 Yup, agreed. You can still hear it. But trust me when I say that you won't care one bit when you drive it. Even though you can still hear it's fake, the sound still does add significantly to the experience and the car in itself is truly fun to drive. Apart from that, if Hyundai is able to approach "sounds like the real thing" somewhat already with this car, you can be sure it will at some point be indistinguishable. The Ioniq 5 N was one of the most fun cars I've ever driven, and I've driven quite a few sports cars and "drivers cars". My expectations were already quite high because of the many positive reviews I had seen but still it surpassed them

I feel people are missing the point on the ‘frunk’. BMW is building a lineup that is ‘identical’ bar driveline. You want a 5 series? Here is a diesel, a petrol, a performance petrol, an EV or EV performance, you choose. Other than driveline, everything else is pitched at bmw existing owner (likely an existing 5 series owner who currently doesn’t have a frunk).

Furthermore, I cannot follow the impression that e.g., the interior of the doors look good - for me they look like a weird, colorful puzzle, made of many different parts and without a clear design guideline. Too ugly and over-designed in my mind.

It is not an ev platform it is basicly a gasoline car with en ev attached. It is a little bit like if you attach a motor to a horse carriage. This is also far away from global optimum, because the driver sits too high that he could look over the horses which he does not need with a motor. Therefore the car must be always designed around the engine and not just the engine attached to a car. Tesla also did this in its first iteration in 2006 with the first roadster. Therefore BMW is now at its first design iteration and almost 20years behind Tesla. 😂

Every Chinese car maker can make a 5250-pounds electric car and they are pretty close, if not on par, in respect to design and materials. But their cars cost much less. I don't see anything worth copying - it's not really fast (for an electric car), it heavy, expensive to produce, average range, technologically on the same level as current ICE vehicles. I know a lot of people will buy it because it's a BMW and looks good, but most people are actually pragmatic. That's why Japanese cars won in the US in the 80s and 90s.

Another lazy effort by BMW. You can tell all BMW’s choices these days are made with shareholders in mind not customers. They are resting on the laurels of their past reputation and relying entirely on people’s fixation with being seen to own a “premium” brand. This will be a good vehicle for wealthy New Yorkers to sit in traffic with where they can enjoy the quiet interior and have the fine suspension soak up the bumps of their Afghanistan-quality roads. Since they’ll be traveling short distances at a snails pace they won’t notice the car’s many shortcomings. I imagine this is actually the target market BMW has in mind for this vehicle.
