Couldn't have just used a piece of sheet metal between the coil and the casing. So you don't rip up the insulation?
Why not just replace the whole case? Is that much harder than what you had to do to remove only the coil? Didn't the new coil come as a unit with the case?

99% of the time I do this alone. Taking the plenum off and trying to mount an entire case is way harder. Then connecting the plenum back would take all day alone
