"A story is only satisfying once it's over." You said this twice and I have to disagree. I'm not trying to change your opinion but you've stated this as if it were fact. One can still get "satisfaction" from a story at any point, not just the ending. Breaking Bad's ending wasn't my favorite, but I still enjoyed much of the show.

I'd rather have a show with a great ending rather than a great adventure and a bad ending, then again it's more up to story writing problems, most shows story structures are meant to prolong the events, not to expand on the world, not to explore themes, but to just prolong the show and giving only little snipbits of satisfaction along the way. I think that's what he was referring to, how we have shows that have prolonged segments and just get quickly resolved, if they were a book, it'd be a terrible book.
@lukaduke7629

chrono trigger - Plenty of series do exactly what you’re describing and don’t have an end in mind when they begin. Breaking Bad is not one of those series though. It ran exactly as long as it needed to and I think most people were satisfied all the way through.

Well by “true story” i think it means that the themes and ideas and answers to questions are true and some of the events are vaguely based on multiple true crimes. It doesn’t mean that the whole story is true, it’s fiction telling something true. A fake story with a real message. Season 3 spotlights this especially ! Even the fading of the “This is a true story” highlights the “true” word. Lingering on the screen for much longer than the rest. Just something I thought other Fargo fans would be interested to think of, another great video !!

If you call something a true story, you don't have t humanize characters because they supposedly "did exist" and "did die." That adds tragedy to every death because we believe they are real. But the real reason you would do this is because you can get away with more, like the Coen Brothers have stated on multiple occasions. In fargo season 4, for example, in the first 20 minutes we are forced to watch a child shoot another child because his dad wanted to gain a little power. We watch as a black student in school gets discriminated against so harshly tht she gets paddled BECAUSE a white girl punched her in the face. And we watch as a nurse kills defenseless patients in a hospital, with them fully knowing that she is planning on killing. We watch as children accidentally end the life of an old guy in the back of the car, likely leaving them scarred for life. And I can probably say none of this is spoilers because this is all in the first half of the first episode of the fourth season of Fargo.
@keef_cheefr3110
3 жыл бұрын
no it's a reference to the original movie which said "based on a true story" because the Coen Brother's believed that people view media "based on a true story" differently than if it isn't.
The original makers of the film came out and said they only claimed it was real for the hell of it. It's all made up.

I mean, satisfaction is usually reserved for post. Like, coming up with a strategy in a game is only satisfying if it works, it's exciting while you're still working on it, but not satisfying. Satisfaction is a feeling for when something pays off, or you've "done" something good.

It's always a treat to hear someone else praising this show for what it does. Fargo is unquestionably my favourite movie, and I had very high expectations going into the first season. That I left it believing it to be my favourite individual season of any TV show is a damn good compliment, and I love how the arc they tell with Lester is better than what most shows with five times the runtime can accomplish. The second and third seasons didn't hit quite as hard for me, but they're still better than 90% of television, and I absolutely cannot wait for Season 4!
I binged the first 3 seasons back in April. It was super surreal seeing both Key and Peele suddenly pop up and become recurring characters in Season 1.
For me, Fargo seasons 1 and 2 are perfection. I've watched them several times and each viewing is as good as the first watch. I'm surprised it wasn't talked about and reviewed more widely.
Season 2 is some of the best I‘ve seen on TV.

Honestly I don’t understand the love season 2 gets. I didn’t mind it at first but there is some insanely dumb things near the end. It’s not bad but it’s definitely not a masterpiece. Season 1 hooked me immediately, episode 1 is one of my favourite episodes of tv ever and I finished the season in 2 days. Season 2 took me like 2 or 3 weeks to finish. I didn’t even watch season 3 because season 2 left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've found this after watching your beautiful critique of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 I watched this for the second time a few weeks ago. It is a masterclass in storytelling and the anthology medium suits perfectly. Its in my top 5 anthology tv shows of all time. I searched youtube for new anthologies/ mini series recently and found a couple more. Devs The Loudest Voice Catch 22. I highly recommend checking out trailers for these three shows which all gave me confidence that whilst the cinematic form of media is currently on life support, (but will be bouncing back, bigger better and with far more originality in a year or so) the television aspect is going from strength to strength. Right I'm going to binge on the rest of your videos now. Keep up the excellent work brother 🙏🏿💜

It is so good. All three are excellent and although it's easy to see the roots in the film, they are very much their own beasts. Excellent performances across the board and depth. The music is so much a part of the ambiance but the locations and shots within are masterful.

Ooh, that does sound like quite the deviation from most longform TV indeed! The anthology format is an especially good idea, and one that might be nice to see more often in the future too.
