I was musing to myself a few days ago that I admire the fact that Matt is so much more natural on camera than when I started watching a couple of years ago and yet is still really down to earth and normal and hasn't become one of these curated plastic facades that so many youtubers feel like. Matt, I blame you and your crew for my Maverik burrito addiction. I’m an OTR truck driver and it is difficult to find quality foods that can be prepared quickly. So I've been off-roading for 26 years ... One thing I've learned, is that mud destroys everything. Bearings, seals, steering components, suspension, brakes, and basically anything that moves. I used to run an off-road recovery business in Texas, and after doing it for 4 years in my Tundra, I had to replace almost every bearing and bushing on my truck. I did the labor myself and the parts were still multiple thousands of dollars. I found sand/mud in EVERYTHING! I refuse to drive my truck now in mud up to the center of my wheels. Also another tip, when you have synthetic line on a winch, or even those kinetic energy ropes, and mud/sand gets into the fibers, as the fibers stretch, the sand acts like micro sandpaper cutting the fibers little by little each time you use it. This is why I only run wire cables on my winches and I won't let mud or sand get on my kinetic energy ropes. If I have to pull somebody out of the mud and it gets all over my kinetic energy rope, they are going to understand how much that rope cost to replace, and they are going to pay me to replace it, and I will give them the rope that I just used to pull them out that now has sand or mud on it.

That mud was brutal. One thing I learned from duck hunting is that when you’re walking in the mud you’ve gotta take small tippy toe steps like a ballerina. Reduces the suction on your feet so you don’t lose your boots and socks. Mud recoveries look like a big mess. Glad you’re there to help

This really soft mucky clay they used several feet of to retain water or something idk. So wjat i did was i flopped onto my stomach so i wouldnt die by sinking too deep, and i crawled to the side of the clay pit on my belly and when i got out I called for help. Turns out, the pit was FILLED with spiders 😫 filled man.

Matt after getting the car out of the mud you definitely earned your victory pie without a doubt. Lizzy is so thoughtful she felt bad and apologized for getting the inside of the car muddy. I have a ton of respect for her in my opinion she is a true inspiration. That mud gave me PTSD. Reminded me of being stuck in a mud soup / quicksand in TN in my 24 Outback Wilderness. Rocked a difficult trail up until the last 10min when I fell into a mud hole that sucked me down to my hips. I dug for 3.5hrs trying to free my car, used my max tracks to no avail. I had finally given up, wondering wtf I was going to do to get this car out of there. I hadn’t seen anyone all day so I said F it and prepped to start walking out. 3min after I prayed and was about to walk a Jeep with a winch rolled up and got me out. Learned my lesson, travel more prepared (I now have recovery gear, a winch, and proper skid plates), plus travel with others.

The second recovery was very close to the filming location of the famous "knife fight" scene in "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid". At 15:40 and again at 17:01, you can see a striking cone-shaped formation in the far background. This cone is also visible in the background of the movie scene behind the Harvey Logan character (played by the late, beloved Ted Cassidy)..

I definitely wasn't laughing when I had to pull out a full size Transit with my F250 last week when somebody at work decided to pull it into the side yard area with it raining all day. Of course the guy that did it had already gone home for the day, so another coworker and I were the ones getting muddy. At least I had some cardboard to lay on while I hooked up to it underneath 😅.

Got stuck in mud similar to that when i was a kid. Don't think it was quicksand but was up to my knees and couldn't move. Yelled for help but too far from any houses. Had to pitch my old shotgun and my shoulder pack, a bag from Vietnam for holding a claymore, still have it, over out of the mud. Kinda did what Matt did....leaned over and kinda did a swim thing. Had on jungle boots that my uncle gave me and took a while to get my feet unstuck. It was actually scary and i had been in some dangerous situations growing up and hiking woods and mountains by myself. Tried to send my dog for help but he just looked at me. Pretty sure he was laughing at me. That area is still undeveloped but new owners got a truck stuck in the same spot. They tried to cover it up with gravel but the mud ate it. I think there is a spring that keeps it wet so no telling how deep it is. The truck was at an angle and the mud was up to the top of the tailgate before a couple of tractors were able to pull it out. Probably a Mastodon down in there. Huh, cuda been me in there with it. Tried to buy the property years ago but went way past my bid.

tip, go to your local hardware store, say home depot whatever and get yourself a set of concrete floating skids, good for mud and super soft sand, you can walk right on top, concrete finishers wear em on their knees or feets to stay on top the concrete.. really do work .. spray a lil' WD40 on the bottom for the sticky mud.. yup.. don't take up any space at all.. helps walk on deep snow as well
