Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou raged over the “fragile foundations” he said had been revealed at the club over the last 48 hours.
Large sections of the fans cheered their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday which dented the title hopes of arch-rivals Arsenal.
Erling Haaland scored twice in the second half to send Pep Guardiola’s side one win away from a record fourth-straight English Premier League title.
The three-time defending champion will go into Sunday’s final game of the season at home against West Ham United with a two-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who host Everton.
Norway international Haaland fired City ahead in the 51st minute at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when he converted Kevin De Bruyne’s cross from close range.
He struck his second from the penalty spot in the first minute of stoppage time after Pedro Porro had brought down Jeremy Doku.
When Spurs went 1-0 down large sections of the ground could be heard chanting “are you watching Arsenal?”
City’s win also meant Aston Villa secured fourth place and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League ahead of Tottenham in fifth.
While Haaland’s goals were decisive, City had to rely on substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who replaced an injured Ederson on 69 minutes, to keep Spurs at bay as the home team pushed for an equaliser.
The German produced a fine save to deny Son Heung-min on the 86th minute as he raced through on goal.
With only the keeper to beat, Son looked certain to score as he fired low toward the corner - a draw would have put Arsenal in the driving seat for the title heading into Sunday’s season finale - but he could only watch as Ortega shot out a leg to deflect the ball.

It was the fans chanting ‘When the Spurs go marching in’ just after we went 2-0 down - it was pretty embarrassing stuff, and he’s right to be annoyed by it.

Levy has actually accomplished things in life. He isn’t driven by seeing others fail. Unfortunately, we have the highest concentration of losers within any fanbase on the planet. They’re pathetic. They exist to drag the club down. Either they inject negativity or celebrate when we lose. It’s an embarrassment. The last 48 hours has revealed to him that many people at spurs have only the failure of their rivals (who they can only dream of emulating) to focus on. this man is someone who wants to win trophies, who wants to be successful, he doesn’t care who wins the league this season he wants Spurs to do the best they possibly can and he wants them to become contenders. The supporters the chairman, the players need to get on board with this guy.

As a Spurs fans I’m ashamed of what I’ve heard the last few days too. Wanting to lose to ensure Arsenal don’t win the league is a loser mentality. Who cares what Arsenal do… let them win it if they deserve it. Grit your teeth, acknowledge it and strengthen and build to ensure we can get back to competing again. To hear Ange suggest that this attitude is coming from inside the club as well as outside is quite shocking to me, I’d always assumed that that kind of loser mentality was reserved for moronic fans, not staff representing our great club. The same fans who turn up day in day out , the same fans who pay a fortune for tickets, the same fans that haven’t seen any success in years, the same fans who have a club run by a money grabbing extortionist. The only thing pathetic bout the club is the owners and their failure to bring success on the pitch, but hey at least they’re building a wonderful portfolio and getting huge profit margins out of it!
Everything surrounding this match just shows why Spurs are the perennial butt of all jokes in the football world and will never be seen as a big club until something changes. It seems Postecoglou has the right mindset, coming from a big club with winning mentality and culture in Celtic. Spurs just do not have that. Embarrassing fans and a recent history so sad and pathetic Chiellini and Conte had to talk about in interviews. The club that is the reason absolute greats like Kane and Son will likely end up with no Premier League trophies. In Son’s case, maybe no club trophies at all. That is insane. You can’t fault the players and the manager for their effort, regardless of the noise and spurs fans it looked like they tried their absolute hardest to win. Now imagine busting a gut for 70-80 mins against the best team in the world and playing well, only for the opposition to score and your own home crowd cheering their goal.

This is a very very rare situation. In fact one I’ve never seen before. Stopping your rivals is MASSIVE in England and Ange doesn’t get that. He has a great winner attitude but this is a complicated one. If we achieved champions league we won’t do well and no one would remember it. If we helped arsenal win the title they would never let us forget about it. Bragging rights is a big part of football. Need to make some signings in the summer and keep improving.

I'm a Man City fan and an Australian. Pleased for the win today but anxious throughout the game especially when Son got 1on1 because he has picked our pockets so many times when we have been dominant in the past. Both Managers acknowledge it was a tight game and really it shows that Ange is on the right track. He's far ahead (IMO) of where Arteta was in his first season and not far behind in terms of player capability. I don"t watch Spurs often enough to know the ups and down but they looked pretty good to me in this game. There are a lot of good teams in the Premier League now, it's going to get tighter at the top even though it is still a knife edge right now. Come on City one more win.

As a Man United fan, I think this would be similar if Villa had a chance to win the league or Liverpool and we were playing Villa in the penultimate game. They were brave and went toe to toe with City, this is a proper manager make no mistake. They are a likeable team in terms of the way they play. Fine margins. Deserves better than Spurs as well. Only took him one season to say the same thing Jose and Conte eventually came to realise. Imagine your whole feeling on a season is constantly dependent on what your rivals do.
The time for winning was at Fulham (twice). Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea. No point having a bad attitude now.

How delusional is ange for real? Imagine being born in London, and love spurs with all your heart. Then it should be obvious that priority 1 is to see spurs win titles and priority 2 is to make sure Arsenal dont win any. I actually think Tottenham played really well as if the players really wanted to win. City ultimately proved they are the champions in waiting because their attitude was impeccable but Spurs shoudl hold their head high as I thought they were going to halt city in their tracks. With better players and continued attitude and management from Postecoglou, genuinely think spurs have a very bright future. This manager is very serious and needs time and money, these guys don’t come around too often. Don’t fuck it up with him Spurs.

Ange is a bullish, likeable and charming character. He definitely gave us a lift when he came in. We were title contenders when decimated with injuries and suspensions but then turned to shit with a fully fit squad so I'm not convinced he can handle the pressure at the very highest level. Great track record so deserves time. The whole Arsenal thing put him in an awkward sport. No right answers.

Arsenal played against Man United over the weekend and United fans never celebrated when Arsenal scored; they were actually gutted. .. and so, Big Ange has finally realized what it means to be part of Tottenham. Arsenal fan here, certain Spurs fans don't deserve Ange, how embarrassing to want Europa League football when just qualifying for CL gets you more cash than winning Europa League, yet they complain about the board not being ambitious.
