"Asus didn't send me one" I'm not surprised one bit, honestly. I wouldn't have either.
I really like my Steam Deck and I don't play a lot of AAA games on it (or at all, really). But here's what I don't really understand - Why do I want to pay close to $1,000 USD to be able to play a AAA game for only 1 hour??? Even if the handheld in question is really nice... how is that worth it?

It isn't worth it. These handhelds become useless after 700 bucks because AAA titles drain battery life. Either you get the steamdeck because it's cheap or the Ally because it has a 120 hz screen.

This one I didn't even know it existed, nice ergonomics and good specs this looks like a could be a good replacement for a laptop if you pair it with a Keyboard and mouse and external portable monitor SO you will also have a comparison video next to come, nice, it's lovely to see you on SA with your friends. You are doing great
I don’t know why people expect so much from a handheld device? You have to be realistic about their capabilities and what they are good at and also be realistic about the limiting factor they ALL share, the battery life. I bought a steam deck and I love it, i use it mainly at home when I’m on the sofa or in bed and if I travel with it, unless I’m playing a less demanding game, I’m near a power outlet. I have a desktop PC if I want to play a AAA title on a bigger screen, I won’t ever expect a handheld device to be anywhere close to that level for years.
My concern with these smaller companies making handhelds is how long are you gonna get software updates/product support for these things? Seems they are constanly coming out with a new revisions of these things. Will this be forgotten about when they release their next handheld? With Valve or Asus you know you're gonna be okay for quite some time and if there's an issue it's likely to be resolved. If they cost more AND lack guaranteed support for a meaningful amount of time I don't see any reason to go with on of these or any of the others from Ayaneo, AYN, etc.

Software and updates is mostly going to be from AMD and Microsoft. It's a PC at the end of the day. New revisions? If there's new hardware, especially from AMD, they're going to put the latest and greatest in them. As for support, hard to say, these small companies may or may not do as well as bigger companies, who aren't always good with support themselves. Pricing, yeah until they can get higher amounts of sales, they can't cut a deal with AMD the way Valve and Asus have. Their early bird prices are competitive, but after that, then yeah they seem a bit pricey.

These new handhelds are very exciting and I want one of those ROGs. I have 0 need for one, but I still want one anyway.
I'm in the same boat, bought an SD last July, but I don't regret it at all. Wish I could have the SD and the Rog Ally, or the SD and AokZoe a1 the 7th power.
Perhaps a battery bank capable of 65-100w pd would be a good solution, they usually can slow charge
Love to see one of those devices in 720 p screen to see performance and that resolution
1:40 how can itcan be 65 watt fast chaege and long lasting?
I have the AOKZOE A1L which is identical to that one physically but a 6800U/680m instead of the 7840U and I love it. Screen is better than 100% SRGB, has stylus support, 2xUSB4 ports, 32gb RAM, 2TB, 100w charging, 65wh battery, decent audio, I love it. I did replace my WiFi card with the Intel AX210 and its now doing double duty with a 3070 eGPU in my loungeroom as a loungeroom gaming PC. If youre only getting 1 to 1.5 hours something is setup wrong because I get 2 to 3 hours no problem.

I don't know if it's a Delta airlines thing but all my flights have plugs that I use for a 65w charger. So is that really an issue? Plus you shouldn't be plugging into random USB outlets that you don't have control/ownership over. Potentially a massive security issue if your USB has data pins (you can buy them without data pins). Got this on order. 32G 2tb, can't wait.
Didn't AMD pull an old AMD with this chip and release it with mid drivers (even after the 2 months delay)? On the bright side, it will be much better in 6 months or so just like the 5600xt, rx 480 and everything else they released before RDNA.

Sort of. The 780m drivers aren't quite as optimizer as the 680, but they still show noticeable improvement. The big problem was with the Z1 Extreme chips which ironically had worse performance at lower watts than the standard 7840u APUs. Unless they changed something within the last week, so far they've only almost achieved parity, which is concerning for the Ally.
If I download a game to my series x of the Microsoft store can I play it on this?
but does it run linux?
HI I think managed to reserve a Rog Ally from a Curry's Electronic Store in the UK , cant wait to have a Steam Deck and a Rog Ally , it does make me wonder , How long Asus will support the Rog Ally for ??
I think the biggest issue with these handhelds and even Rog ally is it's simple for companies to produce and make alot of money, but the support, software all lacks I won't be shocked if Rog ally support dies in a year and they keep releasing new models The steam deck will have support for years to come
@13JacksonMr
Жыл бұрын
I think the only companies who can do that with support for a single device for more than just a year before a new one comes out are Valve and Asus and it comes down to 2 things: Money and Resources. Their business does rely on them just selling the hardware like how Chinese companies like GPD and Aya are.
We should be happpy for so many choices right now. I choose the A1 Pro for the full size (2280) NVME and already have a 4tb drive to put in. Also the largest battery. This would not be possible on any other handheld. Plus is has 2 USB4 ports and a extra full size type A port on the top. The only drawback is the lack of an oculus port for an egpu. But right now the egpu enclosures for oculus our super expensive. Picked up a Thunderbolt 3 egpu enclosure instead.

What was your preset when the handheld died
Been struggling between Ally, A1 Pro and the 2S. Price isn’t as much of concern as is reliability, future updates, and repair ability. Looking to keep my new product for several years. Asus has been in the hardware market for the longest. And has worldwide support. Ayaneo and Aokzoe have multiple handhelds under their belt. But parts and support come from overseas and may not be as easily obtainable.

@@ramonavovannanda4022 not really. Ayaneo 2S is objectively a better handheld console with more and faster memory (7500MT/s LPDDR5x) and without a bloatware that is Asus Armory Crate or proprietary bullshit for an I/O.
I think they are worried you plug in and play with say a 30W charger and it will ruin your battery VERY fast. Someone found out the hard way when he gamed on his strix scar and charging it via USB-C which is 100W max. So the battery is being charged and drained.
Valve created the hardware, and control the software. Therefore the device is going as optimized as much as possible, which is good. Valve also makes it easy to buy replacement parts for your steam deck. Playing cyberpunk at 40fps with a mix of medium and low settings is not a problem on a small screen as well. And I would rather support a company that's going support their device for a few years instead of consistently putting out new devices every three or four months. Is that device powerful, yes. More powerful then the stream deck, also yes. Will that device be supported for decent amount of time, most likely not. And what's the point of having the most powerful handheld if it loses support fairly quickly. An unoptimized device will crumble over time. Great hardware will always fall victim to bad software. And valve is making sure this doesn't happen with the steam deck. Which is why I'm happy with my steam deck, and will continue to support the company.
The hand feel is very important. The Steam Deck kept that as a priority. It FEELS like a comfortable situation. The ROG Ally Extreme feels Ok, if you buy a cover that enhances the grips. Without the cover , the Ally still feels like a handheld PC instead of a game console POWERED by a Pc. This thing looks nice, even though the Ally looks better. There’s some of these on my local offered up. I may trade with someone for this on the Legion Go. Even tho the Go LOOKS like it’s got comfy controllers, in exchange for “too big” device
Im confused why u said 6400mhz ram if the website says 7500mhz
(Activision & MWII) Could you look into this running on steam deck with windows I was game banned when doing this I have also seen other reports on the Internet of the same thing but know one is bringing this to light. As far as I can tell its to do with the anti cheat not recognizing the hardware.
instead of steam deck, I bought AOKZOE A1 for $467 closer to the 512gb steam deck. BEST Deal I had for a higher specs.
Please do a quick test with that 3060ti, I would rather a handheld that could dock and use my choice of GPU and not what the companies tell me I have to use I really don't like the way every company is going proprietary now for everything
I need steam deck with 4 cores and 780m (or just with 7840u)
You got something significantly superior to the Ally if you asked me
USB PD Spec is accurate. If you try to charge it on lower voltage, it won't be recognized. If you try to charge it in same voltage but with lower watt(amp), then you risk damaging the power supply. Please don't charge USB PD device on lower rated charger.
So this is more or less a ROG Ally that lets you actually use your own eGPU instead of ANUS’s proprietary BS?

Seems more like a side grade than an upgrade to the ally. Inferior screen (and inferior resolution, 16:10 is a bad aspect ratio for handhelds because of the small screen and many games won't support it so you'll get black bars). Inferior speakers which will matter if you're not using headphones. The battery is a nice upgrade but having more ram is unnecessary for a handheld. For me, the biggest upgrade would be the hall effect joysticks, battery, and extra USB C port on the bottom.. but not worth sacrificing the screen or speakers for that, and definitely not worth $100 more
i am new to this handheld gaming shit so i bought the a1 for cheap $470 and it runs Ace Combat 7 perfectly i was reluctant to buy the rog ally because of the bad experience with asus products imma used this for a couple of months then upgrade to gpd win 4 pro or win 5 whatever comes out with a ryzen 7 800 series or Z2 or Z1 pro lets see

I was considering buying this one, but the 60hz screen with no VRR is what stopped me. These handhelds are powerful enough now to play lots of games over 60fps. Also I read a lot of stuff online about Aokzoe’s customer support issues and lots of defective units and such. Eventually I preordered the Ally, mainly because I can buy it from a proper shop (with warranty) here in Australia. However I am disappointed that Asus didn’t do 32GB of RAM in their highest tier model. Especially at the moment with high VRAM usage in games. And that they skimped on the joysticks. There are many small battery banks out there that can deliver that wattage though, so it hasn't been a huge issue.

I think AMD and Microsoft are not giving this market the attention it deserves. I'm pretty sure this is the future of handheld gaming. It would be awesome if they made some kind of partnership, AMD building a family of CPUs specific for this kind of devices. Currently, there are only two CPU options on AMD side, and both are not designed with this type of device in mind. Both standing on the oposite sides of what would be the ideal ground for these devices. And Microsoft could use this oportunity to increase the appeal of their game subscription service by creating and optmized windows environment specific for these devices, taking into account the size of the screen, the lack of a keyboard and mouse, etc, etc.

The steam deck is powerful enough if your careful with settings and also play more intensive games at 30-40fps lock. (yes 60fps is a struggle at times) It be nice if a Steam Deck 2 was announced. ALL these handhelds NEED FSR3.0 desperately, a saving grace tech hopefully for handheld gaming.

Why are they so expensive for a handheld? Why not just play mobile games till you reach home? This feels like smartwatch. It is cool but not very practical most of the time when you're carrying your phone anyways just watching time

Because mobile games are just not good enough, and only a way to deliver sketchy monetization schemes?

I dont even install games in my phone, is not design for that, and you will destroy your battery in a couple of months.

What are you even doing here if you enjoy mobile games? If its a mobile game and it's not a MOBA, a shooter or a port, it's trash.

Because those are small independent projects that can't place order for 100 000 units like ASUS or Valve right away or assume they can sell at loss at the start. Same thing as with enthusiasts SFF cases.

Mobile games are BS, and phones are not designed to game, on screen keys is an awful experience, and you will destroy your battery in a couple of months.

@@lyoneel I'm clowning on souldemon about comparing handheld games to mobile games, but they're actually fine for the most part. If you buy at least $500 phones, they're well equipped to play the most intensive games well and not shorten battery life. But that's the point, good phones for gaming are almost as much as or even more expensive than handheld consoles. And handhelds also do not have those pesky microtransactions. Only game I really play on my phone is Wild Rift, League of Legends mobile basically. Used to play Genshin but it's much better to play on PC.
