I just found this channel, I'm an electric guitar fanatic since I was a child, but because of my country, I can't get a good one, I have an old selder right now ! And this channel literally is my comfort watch now. You can't imagine the joy I find in these. Seriously, your imagination won't let you imagine how much I appreciate and enjoy these videos. Trogly, you're amazing. Thank you!

IMO that’s a killer Les Paul. It’s light (for a Gibson LP) it sounded great and I love the color. I have a black Fender Tele that is double bound with white binding, yes they get smudges on them but when I change my strings, oil the fret board and clean it up even with play wear it looks great. Certain black/white guitars look awesome and this is one of them. Great video and axe Trogly!

I think the single layer headstock binding looks fantastic, I don’t know why the Elegant lost it. Ebony is a great finish, but a fingerprint magnet!

This one that your reviewing just looks so classy. With the pick guard the headstock custom shop logo and pickup rings. With that finish just makes it all look like fantastic. I know it doesn't have the sparkle finish but I find that just cheapens the look. I understand the issue of having the tailpiece slammed down to the deck putting way to much pressure on it. But I think that kind of break angle affects the strings also. Not only for ease of playing but I'd bet the possibility of a string or two popping sooner than it would normally is higher.

Was surprised looking at demo shop sold listings today to see a broken headstock/neck repair guitar was listed; they painted a stinger over it. I don’t think I’ve seen Gibson list a broken headstock/headstock repair guitar before.

Beautiful guitar but I must say I do prefer the split diamond on the headstock although they’re far more common obviously. The binding on the headstocks definitely give them a touch of class too and set them apart from a Standard and what not. I’m glad you pointed out the details regarding the tailpiece / bridge as well, I see so many tailpieces set way down with that ridiculous string angle pitching upward towards the bridge more times than not too… maybe this will shed some light onto the tone chasers chasing smoke 😆🤙 Love your show man!

My LPClassic Premium Plus has very rounded neck heel and edges are all very soft, my traditional goldtop neck heel is crisp on every edge, even headstock is very sharp, the LPCPP is very soft edged, can you comment on this, not a topic anyone covers. Thank you for all you do, very appreciated, would you like pics, not sure if i need email to do so????

Hello Trogly! I comment from London, thank you for putting up the vids everyday just before I go to sleep so I can have sweet dreams :D Do you think there is a Guinness burst Lest Paul out there somewhere? I work in a pub and when pouring a pint, with Guinness you have this phenomenon when after filling it up to 2/3 of the glass, you wait for it to ''surge'' and then the magic happens. That cloudy beer you poured starts settling and there is a fine shift of colours when the bubbles surge down the sides of the glass and up the centre to form the head. Seeing this process really makes me think, that would look amazing on a Les Paul. Do you know if such guitar exists?

Gibson decks the tail pieces down to the body from the factory. I’ve bought 3 new Les Paul’s between Nov 2020 & Nov 2021 and all 3 the tail piece is down as low as possible. I raised it on the 2021 Standard I bought because she played a little stiff (it worked to fix the stiffness) but have not changed/raised it on the 2020 Standard or the 2021 Custom Shop Custom…

From a burn mark on the headstock. I suspect that the fresh owner of the instrument had heard the expression "lemon oil" somewhere and went to perform maintenance with culinary lemon essence? In normal concentration, this liquid does not affect the PU coating, but it dissolves nitrocellulose varnish perfectly!

The 2008 LP standards have that same chambering. At least some of them do. They aren’t that well known. Some people didn’t like the locking output jack with the red button or the quick connect electronics system with the circuit board. Honestly, they are incredible guitars though despite the little critiques like that. I don’t see a lot of them come up for sale.

Can you do another episode on Gibson cases sometime in the near future? It looks like Gibson is currently offering the Canadian cases(style anyway as I think my Custom Shop case is made in Central America) but with the square Chinese style latches, they’re also offering these insane $1,200.00 cases, a modern take on your favorite “chainsaw case” and the historic reissue Lifton cases. But, I think an episode outlining the differences would be interesting as again I think Gibson has mixed & matched specifications from different manufacturers and to me that’s kind of cool.

A simple project to make. Just solder the connections from a guitar cable to a pair of the input connectors used on multimeters, or solder a guitar 1/4" phone plug onto a pair of multimeter test leads. This little tool is a great way to go when you need to quickly check the pickups without taking the control plate off the back.

I noticed on my gibson lp, the bridge is closer to the pickup. On my epi lp the bridge is further from the pickup. I was like aha! Thats why gibsons have a more slinky feel but why the difference?

The Custom Shop does a pretty good job recreating the original top carve. That top carve alone is reason enough to spend the extra for a Custom Shop instrument. The Gibson USA tops are better these days however Gibson will always keep the Custom Shop carve a little better. In the '50s much of the top was shaped by hand with simple templates to guide the craftsmen. As such there are some surviving examples that have a really extreme carve and dish. Personally I think the top is one of the best parts of a Les Paul.

Pickups matter. The 57 classics in this guitar and the purple one Austin just reviewed outshine the 490’s typically in USA models. To my ears, they are much closer to the tones in the classic rock recordings we all know.

  • @jubei7259

Regular Gibson USA models have come with Burstbuckers for the last 20 yrs pretty much, whereas it's the LPC's that come stock with 490R/498T's. Personally, I like the 490's but then most of my Gibsons are from the 90's so they're what I'm used to. I'd say there's very little difference between a 490R & a '57 Classic neck pup but obviously the 498T is quite a bit hotter than any of the '57 bridge configurations. Horses for courses I guess.

@@jubei7259 I over-generalized. I remember Studios and Customs came with 490’s so I assumed it applied to those in between. The hot 490T is more “modern” to my ear (not bad, just not “classic/vintage”).

This LP indeed looks great but it's hard ro get an accurate idea sound wise since everything, especially when distorsion is on, tends to sound exactly the same in your gear. Give this Gibson a Marshall JCM-800 and you'll hear it come to life…
