I've flown on Sounds Air quite a lot over the years, it's pretty common to ask if anyone wants to sit up front when the plane is full, the pilots love to have a yarn with any avgeeks who want to ride in the right seat!

@aus-reviews8462 No Sounds Air and other small NZ airlines often do have passengers sit in the right hand seat up front. There is an element of randomness to it and possibly also an aircraft balance part as well. My 12 year old daughter has flown in this seat as I was in row 3.

I had no idea Noel was a pilot too. I wanted to become a pilot myself (not a commercial one mind you), but I have an eye disease called keratoconus. I know it usually doesn't disqualify becoming a pilot, but after I got diagnosed with it, I got contacts that give me 20/30 vision, and from what I read it needs to be correctable to 20/20. That, and I sure as hell don't have the money to buy, much less store, a small plane anywhere so.....yeah, lol.

You should consider flying with Stewart island flights at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand, it’s a small airline that connects the South Island to Stewart island and operates out of Invercargill airport with daily flights to Stewart island. Their fleet consists of two bn2a islanders, one pa32, and one Cessna 185. The main flight is about 10-20 minutes from Invercargill to Oban (the only town on Stewart island)

Over 16km of height has been lost due to natural erosion over the many years since it was formed which may give the impression that these ranges aren't part of the Southern Alps. The Kaikoura ranges is the geographic name for that part of the Southern Alps in that region (there are multiple mountains within close proximity that are given their own unique range name). Most of the Southern Alps nowadays are sitting between 1000m and 2000m

Thanks for the video, Noel. There is no such thing as some "far out place in Africa". Africa is not a "dark continent" anymore. Every town has a name (European names at times) and every airport and airline featured in Noel's videos has a name. I have met several white folks, just like the pilot who flew the first sector in this video, who think Africa is some "far out place". No, it is not. I have watched this video and am typing this comment from Kampala, Uganda. We have paved roads and internet connectivity here so please take note. Back to Noel's travel experience....the cockpit seat is every avgeek's dream. That was really nice of Pilot Liam, bless him!

Well..not DESIGNED for... but certainly perfect for. Its one of the few pressurised Turbo prop aircraft with rough field capability. The RFDS was the launch customer which may have given that impression, and is the largest operator of the type in the world. (Interestingly REX is the largest operator of the SAAB 340..which reinforces the idea that small turboprop aircraft are seemingly well suited to Australian conditions!!)
