I am not trained in any martial arts, but just a fan. But it baffles me to see these experts missed that Hooker's left hand was under his own body and he did clench and try to get it out as well. And it was out of sight of the referee, so he could not inform by tapping. Also he screamed "staaap", to which referee went down to the level of his face to see he had given up. Another little thing I observed was Islam feigned the right hook, instead his focus was his left hand which he used to lift Hookers right knee to make him fall down. this is clever considering Islam didnt go down to take him down, but he made Hooker fall first and then dived in. This helped him to avoid Hooker kneeing him in his face. The same technique he used to knock out Tibau, he punched and used his hands to pull Tibau's left knee to make him fall and then made it look like he fell down from the punch. This may be common knowledge among fighters, but I have never seen this from any of the hundreds of the fights I have watched. Experts can weigh in on this.

Yeah Dan has zero ground game was known for being put into fun striking fights can’t see how anyone saw him doing any better. We saw what happened when he was scared of the takedown (chandler fight) so I didn’t expect much less. Still a legend for standing up to the test.

Casuals will tell you that Islam isn't a PPV star given that his popularity comes from nations that don't have PPV. This is lazy though given that TV rights are still a major cash cow for the UFC. I wish they could change the rules to reduce the wrestling advantage, eg having no walls, allowing strikes when grounded etc

Khabib father is the person who said that Islam will take Khabib spot. But he passed away before seeing it happen. The only way you beat Islam is to knock him out. He won't be out pointed and really doubt he a be out wrestled or submitted. I could be wrong.

Also it's funnier dan makes fun of wrestlers saying it's hugging, but he literally did wrestle dustin and nasqrat (who even joked saying they both agreed to do standup only).

I noticed Dan entered alone...entering what is pretty much enemy territory alone, about a month after Dan's last fight, training with new partners at a different camp, he wasn't interacting with the press during the conference the way he normally does. I didnt see this making it to the 2nd half. Not to take any accomplishment from his win, but Islam needs competition in a different setting before mentioning a belt or contender. In my opinion*

Islam is an amazing fighter and made dan look like an amature. I agree with chael on him not selling fights because of his style, hes boring as fuck to watch and you know every single time hes going to just dive for the legs to hug until submission which i know is his strength but as a spectator its different we want to see knock outs and blood everywhere haha!

Islam is a badass-with the same consideration for others’ bones that Khabib had, at least evidenced here by his carefully cranking the Kimura and looking over his shoulder as he did it to see if the ref was going to stop him at any point.

Because he's the only person who would take the fight on such short notice, and mad props to him for it as well. Yeah, I'm sure the money was good, but no fighter likes to be mauled that quickly. Shit Dan had basically no fight camp before his last fight because of NZ lockdowns and less than a month to prepare for the Islam fight. That's pretty ridiculous when going against the (probably) greatest wrestler in the UFC at the moment.
