Strength training can be difficult to start, but once you see improvement you begin to enjoy it.

My problem was that I thought it would take so long to improve that I kept talking myself out of it completely! It’s been nice to notice small improvements lately though! 🤓

Okay, it seems as you are giving me a gentle reminder to lift as well. As a runner we focus on one thing and thar is running but like you I struggle with lifting or finding the time to lift. Thank you for this reminder ❤

Well done completing the 30 days, RGG! And yes, I think there's a big benefit to doing even a little bit of strength work, even those 5 or 10 minute sessions. There seems to be mixed opinions on bigger amounts, especially when it means carrying around muscle fatigue and stiffness that affects our running workouts. It wouldn't surprise me if some runners benefitted from that more than others. But I find that as I run more, I tend to lose strength in muscles that I don't use for running, so it's good to so some strength work just for general fitness and function.

I was completely unaware of how weak I was in some areas and how much fitness I’d lost in others. This was a huge learning experience! 🤓

I have my 6 - 12 hr run coming up this weekend. After that I'm going to start doing more strength training. I didn't want to put anything new in to stress my body before hand so I can be well rested. I have failed to so lower body lately except for my running. My therapy experience has taught me how important that lower body strength is, just like you said.

Totally understand not wanting to stress your muscles before a race. I do the same thing! But yeah, it’s definitely hitting me how little attention I’ve paid to so many necessary muscle groups all this time! 🤓

It is like running there a few days when you don't want to run, but you and feel better for it. I think strength training should be seen the same way once it is done you feel better for it.

Absolutely! I’ve definitely noticed a difference since I started actually working at it! 🤓

10 mins each day is a lot. It's 70 mins a week and that might be enough to keep you injury free. Congratulations and looking forward to the next

Thanks! I’ve cut back on it now but making sure I’m still getting plenty of work in so I can keep improving . Still have to talk myself into it some days though! 🩷🤓
