Sue Wolfe - The doctor probably reacted that way because he didn't know you. Unfortunately, this was his first impression, and he had nothing else to go on. I've worked for physicians, and they do make an initial assessment of the patient. Without knowing you, he took your comments at face value. Maybe he should watch your videos! 😂❤❤

Sorry to be the bummer, but for me, the doctor story wasn't funny at all because I have both ADHD and Ehlers-Danlos and have heard too many horror stories of people who've been incorrectly labeled mentally ill or denied access to desperately needed care because a doctor presumed to know better than the patient or their previous doctors' treatment plan. It was wildly inappropriate for the GP to change her medication when he'd already referred her to a psychiatrist (who are more specialized in medication for ADHD) and to put in writing such a slanderous misinterpretation of what she said. MANY people use hyperbolic forms of speech, and failure to recognize that suggests a level of bias and/or cognitive inflexibility that's likely to harm other patients as well. : - (

I was a professional organizer back in the early 2000s (before it became REALLY popular). One of the main questions I would ask my clients (and myself!) was "Is this something you would want to pack up and pay movers to transport from one place to another?" It's a great way to really think about the stuff you have and whether it's worth packing in a box and then unpacking on the other side. GREAT video! I love watching people declutter stuff from their spaces.

@@cjhoward409 My question is morbid but "Will my kids care about this when I die?" The family punch bowl got left behind for my brother to decide for himself if he wanted because despite feeling guilty that Gram would be sad at me, I knew I didn't want to take it out of Mom's house after she died. Doing a death cleaning makes you think about your own possessions and how your kids' attitudes would be when they have to do the same to you. Needless to say, I came home and I decluttered a LOT of things in the years since with that mindset. Abruptly I had the moving thrust on me in April so I got to do both questions then!

The number of times I have helped friends move and they were too busy/scattered to pack...well, a LOT of stuff that we shouldn't have bothered to move got packed. Then I had to move ourselves across the country, and the #1 thing I did was declutter FIRST. And still things came with us that we in no way needed. Both experiences were really eye opening. I need to do that kind of deep declutter again!

@@Y3w3lz Meanwhile we moved *checks watch* almost a decade ago and still haven't finished unpacking 😭😅😂 Clearly nothing in the boxes in the basement are *necessary*, but there are useful things, sentimental things, and bugs. So many bugs. We did go through most of the clothes and a few boxes here and there, but uhh... Let's just say there's a leaning tower of donations that refuse to leave on their own, and no one wants to deal with them because it's just so overwhelming. Much like the stuff we haven't yet gone through. Can you tell our method got to the same point of your last move? It's a thing! Put it in a box, we'll deal with it later!! I'm not sure if it was a blessing or a curse that we got all the important stuff dealt with before we took on that mindset of just getting it over with. If the important stuff was mixed into the mystery boxes, we might have actually gone through them. Or we might have just gone without for all this time, or bought a new one hahaha

I have a box so important I marked it "owner will move" … over 50 years ago. It's full of small items-probably close to a hundred of them. I have made around 10 moves since then. I think I opened it once, about 30 years ago. Maybe it's time? Thanks for this video, it's opened my eyes. I had no concept of the sheer volume of what I'm dealing with!

Six months out from downsizing by half after 23 years; got a few trauma flashbacks from this, lol! Fortunately, I had already spent a good couple of years looking at everything we owned and asking if it was worthy of being invited to join us in our new stage of life. It takes several rounds to fully let go but it’s so worth it. The stuff we kept is truly our favorites so we just don’t miss what’s gone.

Second, this was the EXACT strategy I told my daughter to use when she moved from a house with roommates to her first apartment with her boyfriend. I said you don't want to bring all that old crap into a nice new place, plus you are now sharing closets bathroom etc with another person. Lastly THANK YOU for showing us you are a REAL person who also has "STUFF" piled everywhere and clutter...my shed does not look as bad as yours!!!

Cas, only YOU can make decluttering so fun ! this is why I never miss any episode. I am so inspired ! By the way, you are not alone in imagining that you burn things to the ground. I once admitted to my step-daughter that I have longed for months to put to fire to my house and be done with the clutter once and for all (and I am as placid and non-dramatic as they come). She was horrified. Of course I would never have done it ! just day-dreaming as stress-relief. Now that the house is decluttered and in good shape, I no longer need this extreme "solution" ! I wish you the best with your new home !

How's it going for you, are you finished decluttering? We need to do about 1600 sq. ft in about 6 months. I hope it's doable. Before I started watching her videos I was convinced it isn't, but the way she phrases things has given me a different perspective about the scale of the job and how quickly it can be done.

We finished, sold our home, and now we are using the same techniques to keep our new home tidy! I never look at the 'whole project' that needs to be done. I break things up into doable areas, which helps to not only complete a job but you get the feeling of accomplishment and the encouragement to keep things moving forward. Start by defining the area, then move anything in that area to get you started. Your 1600 feet can be reduced to just taking care of a 3 foot by 3 foot area at a time. You can do it! Best of luck! @@lisaa8795

My pillow is a breathable pillow so you will be wasting your time. Ha ha ha." We both have a wild sense of humor and say the most outrageous things but it is all in fun. OMG, I love you, and ALWAYS listen to your stories at the end - thank you! A couple of things I have to tell you: 1. I told my sister in law "If I ever divorce or kill my husband (her brother) it'll be because I can't hear him." Every one knows he speaks very quietly, but she looked shocked! But no, I was kidding, My point was really that that's the worst thing about him. Sheesh. 2. A year ago we decided to tear down our garage, put in a shed at the back of our (small, city) lot, and build an ADU for my dad. Our garage was waaaay worse than your. We'd been using the garage for 1/4 what we had to store (grill, patio furniture, mower, camping gear etc.) and 3/4 it was a "pre-recycling Center". We'd been saving styrofoam, boxes, old sweatshirts (for guests at our BBQ who got cold), books, my mom's old crap, my old crap, my husband's ld crap, plastic bags, bubble wrap ... you get the picture. What an AWESOME RELIEF it was to clear it all, and put just that 1/4 into our new shed. Keep it up -- you make a huge difference in our lives. and BTW, both my Sweet Husband and I are Visual, micro. So lots of open boxes gathering our necessary things in areas where we need them. Hurray, when we realized that was okay, even if not everyone would do it that way.

So inspiring! I am always trying to purge but the idea of “would I move it to a new house” really resonates with me. No, I don’t think you’re crazy but maybe come up with less violent ways of saying what you’re going to do if your family doesn’t pick up after themselves. Haha. Ex: If you don’t pick up your things and put them away I am going to put them in a bag and donate them to a thrift store.

Awesome! My thought exactly. At almost 80, I LOVE the verse in Ephesians that starts our words are to edify and uplift... And the one in I think Phillipians that states one of precious things to Papa God in a woman is a gentle and quiet spirit... (Like when my former diabetic hubby blood sugar went wacko... and he started arguing really loud... Ah... Yelling. I knew it was time to put my hand out on his arm very gently and then lower my voice and say "Honey... We are adults we are not children we don't have to be yelling at each other and if you're not able to do that right now I'm going to go in the other room until you can gain control and we will finish this conversation but not in this manner. " Or I would say that when I was losing control and started to get angry I'm going to take a break until I can calm down because right now I'm starting to get a little hot under the collar and I'm not going to be doing the righteousness of God which means doing the right thing when I don't feel like it cuz right now I don't feel like it And it was amazing how that was not me I definitely had to rely on the Holy Spirit to do it through me because as I've heard many times before that living a Christian Life is impossible in the natural that's why we need the Holy Spirit. I think that's also it's called denying self and picking up your cross and dying to what you would rather do like chocobo LOL I don't know what chocobo is but that was the translator and I think it's a translation for For a foreign language for choke your neck😂

Well done Cass. I did something similar when I downsized. I asked myself did I want this item in my new house & tried to imagine where it would go. It really helped as I'm a bit of a hoarder & struggle with decluttering so the usual questions dont work for me. The ' Take your house back' course also helped & I managed to get rid of at least 80% of my belongings. I still use the same tactic now, when the clutter creeps up & starts to feel overwhelming. I've definitely got a lower clutter threshold now. I was also surprised when I got to the new house that I had forgotten about alot of my clothes. I had managed with alot less clothes during the 6 months it took to move ( shouldn't have taken that long) So I have now purged & my wardrobe is alot more minimal. I found this so freeing. Love your little stories at the end of your videos 😂hope you don't ever run out of them. Hope the move goes well, looking forward to your videos of organising your new house
