I've been doing this with my CD's. I'll also be doing it with my DVD's and Blu Ray's soon enough. You've got the disc, the sleeve and the artwork, that's all you need. The case is worthless and easily replaced if you want to resell for profit later down the line.

This is a good idea, especially because you're keeping the artwork. A lot of collectors throw the artwork away with the plastic cases and use small sleeves. Storage space is becoming a real problem, as my movie room is quite small. My solution to the problem is to continually go through my collection and give away the movies I know I'll never want to watch again. I do the same with books, records and CDs. Lately I've become very critical of some of my collecting habits. It's a good feeling. But I realize everyone doesn't feel the same way. I love your shelves, by the way. Good luck with your storage project! I've been a subscriber for a while, but I believe this is the first comment I've left on your channel.

Thanks very much for your comment and subscribing too 😁😁 I couldn't get rid of the art, the would to me damage the quality of the collection haha if you know what I mean. It is good to be self critical, I know even just the fact that I'm doing this is making me feel the same about picking up new movies and blind buys. Cheers mate 😊

I've started using the paper insert as the container for the DVD, then arrange them as if they were in a filing cabinet. Working out the details but you can't get thinner while keeping the art.

I think that's a great idea JT, you still get to appreciate the cover and it's less space taken up. For my overflow of DVDs, I store them in a storage wallet. It holds about 120, and I keep the artwork in there too. I like the idea that I can always swap them into the main collection shelf if I change my mind on a movie I wasn't keen on originally.

Great idea James. I never actually thought of that way. My dvds are in a silver cd ton but the trouble with that is, you don’t have the art work with the movie. The art work can also get ruined a little too. Your way is better I think. I can’t understand why movies aren’t like cds now as so much plastic is waisted. I can understand why you want to do this as the room is taken up. I want those sleeves now I think.😀👍

When push comes to shove you have to do what you have to do. I remember in the older days the DVD sleeves would scratch the disc. As long as that plastic won’t cause damage it doesn’t seem bad. For future you could also replace the plastic case to go back how it was if needed.

My own collection is nearing 1400 DVDs, Blu-rays & 4K and so space is becoming a premium issue. Like many collectors I've doubled-up on many films for various reasons. Where I can, I've doubled (or in a couple of cases tripled-up) the discs in the Blu-ray box. A simple case of buying a number of box inserts and then having all the discs in one box. Arrow's Big Trouble in Little China is a squeeze with the Blu-ray, the 2-disc DVD and the booklet, but it fits (just) and all's good. I keep the covers, inserts and booklets in a folder in A4 plastic sleeves (alphabetised, of course) to keep them safe and unfolded. The DVD cases have gone to be recycled. I use the same shelving system that you have, JT and took the decision to have two rows of boxes on each shelf. It's a bit of a pain when I get new editions, but such is the joy of collecting physical media! 🤣 A second idea, which is one I've adapted for my daughter is to use a couple of disc carry cases that hold up 400 discs in individual sleeves. I've done the A4 sleeve thing with the covers, and this has managed to keep her son's interested hands away from the chance of damaging any of the discs, and it takes up a fraction of the space. I hope this provides some food for thought. Keep up the good work 👍

Thanks so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts Bruce. Much appreciated. And for subbing too. Interesting idea condensing into multiple cases. I will likely recycle the dvd cases too. Personally not a fan of the disc wallet things that you zip up like a binder. I used to keep my collection in 3 of those but in the end it didn't work out for me. Cheers again

Hi JT, I have done the same to a lot of my Blu's. Mostly all the single disc titles I have. The 2 disc and more I keep in the cases. In some instances I have used custom covers for films with sequels they have gone into slim 2 disc cases. Films with 3 or more discs are a little harder to do.

Alphabetical order would be the only way to go so you could find a film easily! Nicer idea than having to cut the art sleeve to fit in a thin case 👌🏻 Would you consider the semi-flexible cd cases to better protect the disc inside the sleeve (because then they'd have the central disc clip/ holder) ?

Hope you had a great holiday mate and in regards to the slip strip idea I dont see why not it's just whatever is best for you I guess, I mean if you really need the storage then it would probably be a good idea. Every collector has their own preferences with their collection displays so if it's the most effective storage solution and still holds the artwork then it's still retaining the film in the collection. Despite anything though it's up to you so go with what feels best.

Hi. New sub here. I believe these are Terifold sleeves, correct? I was researching these to slim down some of my own collection. The only negative ive heard so far is that some people claim the single dvd slips start to split along the seams after you takr the disc out a few times. If you went with this, has it been a problem?
