It’s generally more true than ever though all the other giants around Europe are weaker than they have been the last 20 years. Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Spain are all so much weaker than they have been in the past and even France aren’t as good as they have been. If england get knocked out by anyone else other than France it’s a failure. Being totally honest England’s squad is better than even Frances. I think they would have mbappe, saliba and Theo start for us and thats it.

It's been about 30 international tournaments since England won anything. 0-30. Very optimistic. And we'll hear the same thing in 2026 about the World Cup.

It never ceases to amaze me how these football experts, who have played the game and worked in the game for so many years, who have seen and done it all, will before every tournament proclaim that England will win, despite 58 years of failing to do so.

Mad people underrating France so much, they have the best player at the tournament, their defence is very solid with about 5 center backs who would play for England, a midfield that includes Kante who plays the role that England are missing even if he is playing in Saudi with Camavinga able to play if he can't who would also play in the england team.

We're winning nothing with Southgate in charge picking Maguire, Henderson and Phillips. The starting XI needs to be: Pickford, Walker, Dunk, Colwill, Chilwell, Stones and Rice as the two 6's, Foden, Jude and Saka supporting Kane. The France-England combined XI take is embarrassing. I think their only issue is with the holding midfield position, there is no decent backup option for Rice nor someone to partner him if Bellingham is given the free roaming role like in Madrid. Maybe if they can find a good partner for Maguire in Guehi or Branthwait, they can push Stones higher to the midfield.

As a German, i am a little surprised about the way the gentleman at the start creates expectations. Germany never went into a tournament with the attitude we must be champions! A tournament like the Euros is very difficult and you certainly don‘t win because you have two or three exceptional players at club level. For England, it would be nice to finally win something, but this will allways remain a team effort

This is the problem. Everyone always says we need the ‘two sitting players.’ Why do we need two! Let’s play to our strengths and play our attacking players. We always try to focus on quelling our opponents rather than focusing on our own strengths. Let’s try and outplay the best teams for once rather than just survive.

No. They can be surprisingly boring to watch at times... but that's why they are so consistently good at reaching the latter stages of tournaments. And also why they have their share of underwhelming results (though usually in games with less damaging consequences). Their gameplan has been to be solid, then give Griezmann, Mbappé and Giroud in particular the space to do their thing. It works a lot of the time, even when it doesn't they are still difficult to beat in knockout games.

Coming back to this when England get knocked out in the Quarter Finals 😂😂😂

Did we see much in those last 3 tournaments when we lost (6/7 of the matches were held at Wembley in last Euros) to make you think it’ll be any different?

Its amazing to think of the depth we have. Its amazing to think that even talented players like Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Ruben Loftus Cheek, Marcus Edwards, Fiyako Tomori, Angel Gomes, Curtis Jones and Jarrod Bowen probably wont even make the squad. England have so much strength in depth compared to previous tournaments. We could have even had Jamal Musiala in that squad, imagine a starting 11 with Musiala, Kane, Bellingham and Foden!

England have a shot. Best we've seen from talent in a while. They usually struggle to control games because their squad consists of players that don't run the show at their clubs. The foreign players of Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and City generally make the teams go. This squad is finally different. Leaders and quality role. Their style isn't good enough to call them heavy favorites, but I can see them doing it with players like Foden, Saka, Bellingham and Kane who are so instrumental to the beautiful football their clubs play

I'm Irish. While I wish England well in Euro '24.......how about even just waiting until the end of the PL season/C.L., etc and seeing who is injured, or has a niggling issue, before saying what the team's chances are.

This is exactly how the English media hypes up their fans creating a toxic environment for the players. No team ever wins just by talent, chemistry, playing style and opponents all play a major role. Management is extremely key especially with a talented squad, you can’t get in the way of a strong team by having them play conservatively , but it’s England, they messed a generation with Terry, Rio, A.Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Rooney etc, for them everything can and it usually goes wrong 😂.

I think what journalists and media tend to forget is that it's more than just having talented players. It's about having a team with a never say die attitude, a team of brothers/family with a warrior spirit. England squads of recent times have always been filled with individual egos & prima donnas and this has cost them dearly.

I don't think it's EVER been about the PLAYERS with England???? Its more about tactics and game management, which is down to the manager and coaching staff????

Southgate has his way of playing but surely he can trust his players and adapt to their strengths. A problem for him now is that Rice hasn’t been playing as a traditional 6 lately and is more an 8 especially alongside Jorginho. I would go Walker, Stones, Maguire, Colwill, Rice, Jude, Trent, Foden, Kane, Saka. Plenty of firepower while Saka amd Foden work hard off the ball to make it work. As good as Kane is I personally think we’d be better with Watkins for that front three and Bellingham as it would open up more space for them from his running

We have yet to beat a really good side when it matters because Southgate is to limited a manager and nobody is brave enough to say what they really think.

@@NyaCroft Germany have crashed out early in the last 3 or 4 tournaments being bang average, and Denmark are pretty solid but are not “really good” just decent

England has big STARS , but you need a different coach. It’s unfair not win Euro this season.

Belinhun is a great player

The team is very good, on paper. GK - Ramsdale, CBs - Stones and Tomori, RB - Reece, LB - Chilwell, CMs - Rice and Palmer, CAM - Bellingham, LW - Foden, ST - Kane, RW - Saka. Bench: Rashford, Sterling, Wilson, Walker, Trent, Trippier, Shaw, Maguire, Pickford. The best national team on paper, only France comes close.

With Southgate as manager?

Even with Southgate as the manager, the players we have are top quality. France is probably the only team that can beat us.

our 11 shouldnt be anything other than pickford, walker, stones, tomori, shaw, rice, bellingham, foden, saka, kane, maddison. IMO

Play rice and Bellingham as the 2. In the easier games Bellingham goes where he wants and rice sits, play folden as.the 10 . Saka right, and left is up for grabs.

It's Bellingham & Kane that are the real difference makers. They're the best footballers in that squad. If they are fully firing we have an incredible chance of winning.

I feel with this squad we are capable of winning the Euros, but not with Gareth Southgate as manager

Unfortunately Southgate will pick favourites to fail again. Henderson and Maguire will be on the plane but should be nowhere near. Right now I wouldn’t take Rashford or Phillips either.

@@jacob4690 white can still play as a centre back, dunk is the best Brighton defender but those around him aren’t on his level so they concede a lot and Everton have good defensive stats with a much better back 4 mainly because of branthwaite, and yes I have seen tomori play multiple times

If you play a front 3 and Jude as a 10 then they need to drop off and be a 4231 off the ball... Or you play 433 with Jude as an 8 that's given license to go. If we don't look like we control games and create chances, the management and coaching staff are inept. I do think being defensively solid and good at set pieces is critical in international football, but there has to be a bit more finesse and guile in open play.

England finally have some fantastic players, but then again we have Southgate. Imagine we had someone like Klopp or Pep...

I don't think Pep would win with this England squad. His management style relies on players with specific skillsets, and he needs time to mould them into a winning team, time an international manager doesn't have.

So we just going to act like France ain’t participating

Got a great team but 'shocked if we don't win it' is just such a dumb thing to say. Plenty of other great teams going into it, lets just keep our expectations low and take it game by game and I think we have a shot at it

If Southgate doesn't play a 4-3-3 with Rice, Foden and Bellingham in midfield...the jury is out...Kane and Saka are given in the attack...leftside attacker is the problem...Sterling? Grealish? Rashford?

England have a great team of talented players but the wrong manager.

Don’t worry lads. Henderson and Phillips won’t get near the starting 11. Even Southgate knows that. And to be fair, yes we’ve always overhyped the England team but the truth is this time, it’s true. Easily the best squad in the world

But the worlds worst manager. Trust me, England could be 3-0 up with 5 to go in the final, Southgate will find a way to bottle it and lose, it’s in his DNA. It’s the reason ironically he bottled that penalty in Euro 96.

They don't deserve to be in the squad but Southgate will take them. Players like Curtis Jones >>> Henderson

A great time for English midfielders, Moving like they have Xavi/Iniesta/Kroos/Modric like relax, bar the attack and fullback they still don't have a deep lying playmaker which is very important for tournament football

4.3.3 Bellingam, Rice, Mainoo with kane saka and foden in front of them. Back 4 is a struggle in my opinion, definitely Stones and Reece James. But the other 2 is a struggle.

depends if Morata turns up. Belgium are the dark horses - dodgy defence but an attack comprising Doku, Lukaku, Trossard, De Bruyne and Tielemans is not to be underestimated

Its not about having the best players, its about having the best team. Some nations have a team that work as a unit in defence and attack. I cant say that about England.

Saliba is better than any CB England have lol, both of they LB are better Theo and Lucas Hernandez are both better than shaw, name English CB who’s better than konate? Apart from belligham and rice who’s great in the England midfield lol they’ve got camavinga zaire Emery tchouameni rabiot up front they attackers are better coz there’s only kane for England they’ve got griezman better than foden and coman and dembele better than saka so what do you mean by only 2 players

If Henderson gets in the squad regardless of if he plays or not England are definitely losing in the quarterfinals or semifinals. They need to go with youth. Foden. Bellingham. Saka

You need people with experience and be positive leader in the changing room. So yes Henderson will be there. Not everyone plays anyway.

The problem is we don't have many genuine CMs/DMs. Foden and Bellingham are attacking midfielders, not players who sit. And Southgate is a defensive manager. You can't play Rice as a DM with the rest of the midfield all bombing forward. That doesn't work at international level, against good teams. Maybe Trent can sit alongside Rice, or Maddison.

I dont think anyone outside of England think they are favorites. They are the Spurs of international football, always good for a letdown and never win anything 😮‍💨
