Nope. Players such as Maguire shouldn't be playing. Kyle Walker too. Henderson, Trent, Quansah, Joe Gomez and Harvey Elliott must start,otherwise they'll depart in the group stage.

I definitely agree. Arnold at midfield will be a nightmare for opponents. His crosses and passes are just out of this world! He's too good to be benched.

England’s biggest weakness is Southgate’s defensive tactics. Chilwell and Maguire are also big weaknesses as their form is suspect and they just aten’t fast enough against top strikers. I agree Cole Palmer deserves his place but Southgate is so very, very cautious it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t even make the squad. Palace’s Eze, Watkins, Ben White (if he can be convinced to play) should play instead of Maguire. This IS Ebgland’s best chance to win a trophy for years but sadly, I honestly believe under Southgate, they can win nothing. Give England a more adventurous manager and England could win a few trophies. Just my opinion. You know what they say about opinions?😂

Palmer doesn't have the international experience Saka and Foden have got either. It would be much wiser to start him from the bench.

Very good analysis calmly explained. The query I have is Palmer over Mainoo. For me, the choice as to which of them starts comes down to the identity of the opponent. Against the bigger opponents, I would start Mainoo in a no.8 role, and use Bellingham a little forward as no.10. Mainoo adds a little more solidity to the midfield. Which England will need against countries like France, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Spain - should they meet. If England behind or need a goal, would bring Palmer on around 60th minute mark, for Mainoo and move Bellingham back to a no.8 position. Given his liking for a double midfield pivot, Southgate likely to start Mainoo over Palmer anyhow.

They play in different positions. Mainoo is more of a sitting midfielder, whilst Palmer is more of a striker. Both could fit into the team imo.

There is no balance in that midfield with Palmer. He’s so forward, he’s basically a striker. Mainoo can tackle, pass and has good positional play. Midfield needs balance.

Palmer is very good over 25 goal contributions in 32 games he is better than mainoo,maddison etc

Disagree with your midfield. I don’t think Palmer starts. Should be Foden, Bellingham & Rice there with Gordon/Bowen/Rashford, Kane & Saka as the front 3. Both Kane and Saka run back to receive the ball, we need a speedster who will run onto through balls.

I do agree with Palmer but I do think that if I weren’t for the injury Maddison would start no matter what

Without watching Chelsea much I thought Palmer was a shoe in, however having watched the last few Chelsea games I’ve come to realise how lazy Palmer is when the opposition are in possession. He wouldn’t be in my starting line up and might not make the plane, certainly not as a midfielder.

Pickford (GK) Braithwaite and Stones (CB) Walker and Stones (FB) Rice (Holding midfielder) Bellingham and Foden (CM) Grealish, Saka and Kane front three. Grealish is a maverick, who STAYS OUT WIDE. He makes the pitch BIG by doing so. He can play in chaos, pick the ball up from deep n drive the team up field. I was very tempted to pick Trent ahead of Foden but opted for Biden. Saka n Kane pick themselves really. Branthwaite is as fast Walker. Maguire would not even b on the plane. Everyone talking about Mainoo but, I don’t c him better than Foden in midfield n he’s the future. That’s the side to play, has to b more attacking.

Walker is still to injury prone so keep him on the bench and yes use Trent Alexander Arnold. Maguire yes will go to the European championships because he's Southgate mate but he keeps being outpaced in defence I would go with Ben White at Arsenal if he's fit enough. As for Stirling Grealish not a chance in hell as both have trouble getting in their own club starting eleven and Rashford again not for me. One outside bet for me in Midfield would be Ross Barkley at Luton. Ross has truly shown his maturity controlling the Luton Midfield with his experience and yes that would allow the youngsters to truly shine brightly

this team could easily win euros 2024.

As much as I love Palmer, this is Jude’s team. Kane might be the captain, but they all look up to Bellingham. He’s not gonna stop playing as a 10 to make space for Palmer. Unless… he starts there as principle, but moves up behind the striker next to Palmer so Stones can come up in midfield next to Rice, the same way De Bruyne moves up from Rodri in possession at City. But Southgate has too much pride to follow the Pep model and play attacking football. I hope at the very least he starts Trent next to Rice, but knowing Southgate, he’ll start the ever mediocre Gallagher. What can you do? Can’t have it all… 😂

@@jabulanincube6344 Rashford + Jude is arguably the most dangerous combo on the pitch. Rashford is not that special but Jude likes playing with a pacey winger on that left side of the pitch with the winger out wide and Jude in the half space and it works really well. Take Vini + Jude combo for example. Rashford is a big downgrade from Vini but more use to inverting which makes up for some of it. That combo would be great in counterattacks and great for dragging in defenders where Jude can use himself as a runner when Rashford inverts to create space where Rashford can shoot or for Rashford to give it to Jude if he doesn't make a run who'll score himself or pass to Kane or the RW.

I would put Trippier at LB/LWB if Shaw isn't fit, he can play there, he will give 100% and I just can't bring myself to choose Chilwell. Chilwell is far too injury prone and all in all I just don't rate him tbh.

I think palmer should be starting over saka. I like saka a lot but he looks tired and nowhere near the player of last year. Foden has to play in the centre. Starting Foden on the left which is his least elective position would be criminal.

It's a good lineup -- I can't argue against it.

That midfield is pretty imbalanced, neither Palmer or Bellingham play there for their clubs, they're nowhere near defensive enough, additionally Bellingham wouldn't be able to get into goalscoring positions like he does in Madrid, this is why someone like Mainoo might start next to Rice to give Jude more freedom in attack Otherwise that's not a bad XI!

Southgate has left it way too late to blood him. CB is more than just pure ability, it’s about building a relationship with your defensive partner. Stones/Maguire know how to play with each other and Southgate has unfortunately not really given players like Branthwaite or Tomori a chance

I agree except I feel that shouldn't Chilwell shouldn't start at all because of that inconsistency because you can't risk a single bad game in an international competition where there are multiple legs to a matchup and groups have a small number of games to decide qualification. Gomez is a better left-back from what we've seen anyways and far more consistent recently. We should start Gomez and maybe use Chilwell as a sub or maybe let him start the an easy group match to see if he plays well through a whole 90. Anyways, Gomez is better defensively, adequate when inverting and good enough up the line to the point where it tips the scale in his favor. Sadly Southgate will probably take no consideration into this and just start Chilwell every game.
