    Cool stuff, Nick! I've seen people painting all sorts of cool stuff onto these panels, but you're the first to make brand new ones from scratch! Really nicely done. It'd be neat to see you come up with some other designs like this - maybe themed ones based on colour schemes from specific games?

  • @j0hnf_uk
    @j0hnf_uk Жыл бұрын

    The alcohol paint is a lot thinner than the resin, which means, over time it will draw toward the centre of the piece where it's lower than the rest of the mould. Unfortunately, because of the uneven shape of it, this is always going to happen. The only way round it is to wait until the resin is about as viscous as you can get whilst still being able to move it around to create the swirls, so the paint doesn't have time to collect in the centre before the resin goes off. Even then, it probably work quite work out as well as you'd like. The only other solution would be to use a quicker setting resin.

    Hello Nick. Great project. I always enjoy your videos. Just a tip for keeping your swirls. Drop the alcohol inks as you wish. Drop the white on top of the colours. Wait an hour or until the resin has thickened up a bit. Then swirl slowly. You'll find the colours won't merge as much and will keep the design. Piñata inks are great for colouring resin but I find they develop a skin when dropped into resin and are left for a while. Best to use Let's Resin or other inks. Or add a bit of alcohol to thin them down. Keep up the great work. Ooh Piñata, pronounced pin....ya.....ta.😁

    Fabulous first job with alcohol inks! Some of the opaque colors like white are sinker inks, so if you molded the front first and loaded your inks on from the back you could get the full 3D effects that those inks produce. I'm looking forward to seeing you do more with them as your creativity is always off the charts!!!

    I have learned so much from YT, and like with all our resin projects, the longer you wait before mixing colors, the better the separation and design. Wait for that gel stage then swirl 😉 I love how you share the process, and let us see the journey. If you are taking suggestions... clean up the edges of the first casting, do a back coating (probably black, maybe with a LOT of glitter so we see it when it's set, of course vacuum the resin before pouring so no air bubbles) then glue a couple of handles to the top, and you have a lovely tea/serving tray 😀 And that's random thoughts from a nobody who talks way too much after her 4th cup of coffee. Cheers 🥰

    Also, when your done applying your alcohol inks. Use a small torch, over the project. It will pop the bubbles. Don't overtorch and heat the resin, just enough to pop the bubbles. Also, white alcohol ink, when used on the top can give a really neat effect.

    Crazy fun build! I never would’ve thought you could replace the cover and that’s so cool! It would’ve be fun to see you put that little resin whale in one of the panels in the swirls 😄

    Nick, I don't know who is editing your vids or answering you comments but I have provided you ideas in comments and I have sent emails. I am curious if you ever got one? I have a new one and rather than bother with unanswered emails, here it is with fingers crossed that you do it. This will look best as a wide bottom, narrow with a narrow neck. This design will show the planes of the color. 1. Buy a ton of acrylic paint. 2. Figure out the layering design or wing it. I suggest using a color wheel for great reference. 3. Use a round container with a flat bottom, one that can be cut open later, spray it lightly with mold release, let it set for a few minutes and start pouring acrylic paint layers, 1/4" thick, which you let dry and peel it off. Rinse and repeat with each color. If you want to do multiple colors let each get a skin first. The point is to do these cleanly but if you want some action, to your swirly whirleys. 4. Make a mold that has a wide but short diameter, one of your square ones would work but try out some foam core to make a round one for maximum savings on resin. I suggest using a mold release because you are going to pour clear resin, put it in the vac, let it harden, pour a thin layer of fresh resin then layer dried paint, resin, dried paint. It is important that you know how thick you can make the resin so it doesn't heat up. Use your magic lathe and have fun! Waffle On❣🧇
