As you pointed out in the video: that cut is harmful for the cooling. The cooling relies on air pressure in the casing to channel air trough the heat sinks.

I would have heated up the clear plexiglass before cutting the plate then place / clamp it to the shell so it takes its shape and done it like they did the 360’s back in the day 👍🏼
So basically you paid someone a bunch of money to spray paint the plastics (and not very well ) cut a hole in the side, half way slap a piece of clear plastic on the side and ruin the thermal efficiency. Really worth it

Yeah the paint even has cracks in it lol
For all that Money,he should have packaged it a lot better.
Maybe cutting the plexiglass into shape and fitting it into the 'hole' would have worked better; if it was doable that is. It then would have fitted better without the need to have the magnet fails. Just a thought?

I also thought this! I wonder next how you would get it to stay on and the edges looking smooth, maybe a small ledge on the hole of the plate for it to sit on and super glue?

That crackling is probably not on purpose. Exactly that happens when you spray too thick of clearcoat over a base coat. That's why the controller has no crackling. He didn't mess it up like he did the console.
Everything aside from the paint job and that awfully implemented plexi glass, this doesn't look too bad. The paint can be fixed, and the plexi glass can be heated to mold into the shape of the ps5 to create the seal, the LEDs can be reshaped and soldiered however you like. Quite decent overall, but the price is still steep

I wouldn't be surprised if the super glue just didn't cure all the way before being under stress
It has potential, but $350 is steep AF. Quality automotive bumper grade paint that will not crack, including 2K clear coat and good primer included isn't going to come close to $300. Wiring in some LEDs, soldering it to the power source on the board, using a dremel tool and some sand paper, with some cheap acrylic plexiglass molded to the "wave" of the exterior panel and some magnets fixed on w/ screws(or a better epoxy) by my calculations even with my "labor" would be like $175. And that's kinda steep tbh, I'd feel a little bit like I was robbing you.

I actually kinda like the crackle effect but it depends on whether you asked for it or not, if you didnt that would suck! Would like to see how it runs on a big game and if the air gap causes any long term issues 🤔
@Morgorath30

As far as I'm aware it's due to the temperature outside/applying another layer too quickly. I had this happen to me on one spot of a controller about 15 years ago and I was pissed.
I think for 350$ the modder could have bent the plexi to fit around the console.
It looks almost pearlescent in the light. That controller is dope though!
10:16 that means it's better at heat dissipation. It's actually blowing most of the heat at the back as it's designed to do.
I like when you do custom console videos, do moreee
I dont know how much of a affect the shell having a big hole will have on the system long term because the ps5 shell is designed as part of the cooling solution.
Gunmetal is more of a black. That color in the PS5 is what we used to call “okie chrome”… lol
The cracks happened to me once when spraying clear coat over plastic that wasn't prepped correctly. I sanded it down way too smooth when I should have left a small bit of texture. Only thing to do is sand it down and respray
That’s Called orange peeling, same happens with car paint when it’s drying at a different rate over the bottom coats. Heat lamps and wet sanding between coats can help fix that. At least in my experience
For once just once wanted to see this guy to buy something and be satisfied with it
@DarkestKnight82

I was hoping the same thing, just doesn't seem possible with this guy
I think it would of been better to have the plexi glass underneath with gaskets to stop the air from flowing up!!! You could still get the same(ish) look while getting a better performing console!!
For what you payed, they could have painted the whole panel, both back and front for that first panel. Having a paint job like that was an 8/10 up until then. and the crackle definitely will be an issue down the road. A good clear coat could have helped prevent that when it was painted. And the glass should have been shipped removed from the console if it couldnt have been secured to the console for transit. Absolutely overpayed for this custom setup.
1:45 - that color change effect would be iridescence. You can see iridescent paint used in car paints and such.
The LED being soldered to the board is possible I believe it’s been don on the 360 he probably didn’t have the solder experience as that’s the solution that I came up with without soldering
The mod looks very home made
Should have just wrapped the faceplate and used a type of bolt for the plexi. That would have worked far better and no imperfections.
I think it is a nice design EXCEPT I would mount the plexiglass on the frame screw hole into the plastic and use bolts or screws also u would use a duoco app instead of just standard remote limited options ..the paint wasnt dry enough before he clear coated it and like someone else said it will mess the system up over time for overheating
Great and refreshingly honest review. The console does look pretty nice however it's a game system not a paperweight. So form over function just doesn't fly the way that plexiglass cover is designed is a complete deal breaker. For what that costs he should have had a proper gasket and functional attachment. As it sits that ruins the airflow and negates most any improvement of the heat sinks over stock.
It looks alright personally id perfer black to go with the gun metal gray
Awesome job but… definitely as you mentioned the air flow now is going to be a problem in the future!
Heat that plexi glass up super hot then put in place to cool. Will be good to go after
When you measured the temps you had the side on the custom where most the heat leaves facing the heat camera. Please redo the test with the consoles facing the same way. Feels like you’re trying to make him look bad though I do understand that you probably did not think of this.
@BouncingZeus

The heat will always been an issue. That fan won't get the right airflow anymore. Ps5 was built with air channels. Same issue people with custom steam decks have that add more vents.
@Will-uf7jt

@@BouncingZeus I understand that, but it wasn’t a fair comparison. He side of the ps5 that is always going to be hotter facing the camera with the custom one
I dig it! 🤘 very cool.
hi can you send the link of the person who mod your ps5 pls ,i really love it
In concept this is 1 of the better looking customs, clean, looks like car paint with orange peel effect to match
Man, I love your videos but the lack of a desk mat makes me so anxious.
Cracking paint is a sign they didn’t use matching clear coat and paint types and too many heavy layers. Heat rises so keeping that ps5 horizontal is its best bet for staying alive.
Just add a METAL spacer to glass where it bends to keep it straight
should have wrapped the shield alone then place in box
could you let us know where we can get ours modded like that too?
Not knowing if this is a one man show or a larger business he runs (I’m assuming one man show since it was found on insta) I can give a little slack for the stuff like the plexiglass etc as well as the price. You get anything from a small business it’s gonna cost more if it’s only one guy or a couple guys doin it. All in all I think it looked great, I don’t mind an extra USB port needing to be used in the back for the custom lights tbh but that’s my own personal take on it. That’s a sick lookin console.
I Used the PS3 Style logo on my Custom plates though mine are gloss blacK like the original ps3, i don't know why but it looks better on the transparent plastic, also that cracking isn't a good sign i'm no expert I think it's a chemical reaction between layers of paint that shoud of been sanded and repainted in my experience thats what I had to do.
I like that PS5 is more airflow if add more fan for less heat.
Studio FR Made the original design 2 years ago and theirs is top quality, Silver and Blue
What is wrong with people not putting bubble wrap to ship stuff especially when they said be careful not to scratch it when taking it from the box 😂
The paint cracking can be down to applying coats to quickly or to a cold temperature. Not a great paintjob imo
Looks like a paint thats supposed to crack, I have seen That paint before
I hope you asked the dude who made the mod to fix the plexiglass side panel - clearly a design flaw.
350 to mess up the cooling sounds like a waste and honestly I think for that price it should of definitely been hard wired to the bord rather than usb
The power supply is definitely getting hot with this mod
Also about the usb cable it would have been really easy to just wire ground and + volts from a usb on the board or on a 5v supply also 350 to destroy a console is just sad
Looks so cool, but same specs from the OG and slim version. 👍😂😂😂 slight upgrade lol
Mannn he should have wrapped and packaged that glass plate separately.
That’s probably not suppose to be all cracked in the paint. Probably rushed through the painting process or maybe the way he prepped it for paint is my guess
Do you have a video of how to jailbreak a PS5 ?
Who do I reach out to to get this done to my ps5
That crackle look in the paint is a bad reaction during the curing phase. I would wet sand that right back down and start again.
This one wil play any game at 8k 120 fps couse of the lights.😂
Put a heat gun on the plexiglass and it will soften and take the shape of the ps5. Awesome video. I wonder if he used the paint designed for that specific type of plastic not just generic plastic maybe Thats why the crackling. Auto bumper paint is what i would have tried. Love the show man keep the awesome videos coming! Happy thanksgiving!

I was gonna comment and say this as well. If the plexiglass discolors under the heat gun, just treat it like paint and wet-sand it/buff it, and it'll become clear again. Super easy and quick to do.
Yeeeea thats sweet
That looks awesome
Paint cracks when it’s too humid
I would never buy this. People try to do stuff without thinking about the cooling. All that air gunna go out the panel on the side and not the heatsinks and not to mention now the fan can suck hot air back from the inside cause of how they made this, wow
The paint is called pearlescent it's one of the most expensive paints there is
The port doesnt work i tried the port
nice console m.2 ssd heatsink keep the console cool
His information plz I would like him to work on mine
It charges a PS Portal to 50% in an hour? Bro my Legion Go charges fully from zero in 45 min and it has a 50whr battery. That’s slow as hell.
This has that "pimp my ride" quality of it looks really cool at first glance but it creates a lot of practical and functional problems underneath.
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍽️
You can't expect factory quality from non factory producers.
The crackle is definitely a mistake, if you don't use adhesion promotor for plastics, the paint crackles, ive done it before. Very cool though.

@JBM_Autodipz I work with paint and different applications. Plastic is so finicky, it flexes especially car bumpers.
7:50 that made no sense the heat can go up and escape its actually better
I wanna know if this is what JRob asked the guy to do or did he just tell him to go crazy cuz the reaction sounds kinda perplexed lol
The USB is killer other than that a decent job
Well, the person who modded it for you they probably didn’t solder it because they may not know how to so they went with the way they knew how to go if that makes sense also, it wasn’t painted. It looks like vinyl to me. Which would also be why it doesn’t smell like paint
I wonder how the thermals are with this mod.
If I were you I would use a heat gun to heat a bit the Plexiglass to give him the shape of the console.
It makes the blowing out the heat sinks a lot easier. So in my opinion well worth the $350.
@miuletzmitzu6641
5 ай бұрын
not really, the fans depend on the closed space to circulate the hot air outside the console, so if you have a big open space, depending on the fans and where the space is, it could have higher temps as the cool air from the fans goes straight out the hole
@FATTYBONGRIPS

you'd pay $350 to save 5 minutes? like once a year? that just means you're a very lazy person
Gorilla superglue gel works really well ive used it on a few things and it holds up pretty good long term. Just a suggestion for the magnets
The PS5 was designed with static pressure in mind, which directly the affects air flow. Having a gaping hole in the side of the console is a no-no. Aesthetically speaking, the paint job on the top and bottom plates is something to be desired, lot's of micro scratches you can see at different angles, and the USB cord is just gross. I wouldn't spend someone else's money on that thing.
For 850 dollars 💸 I would be expecting more creative theme looks like he spent 100 dollars on it 😢
@caphowdy666
5 ай бұрын
Why would he make a more creative theme? Jacob specifically asked for that theme. As for the price, you have to consider parts and labour as well. Jacob knew what he was getting and felt the price was fair. The only issue was it was not packed well. The design isn't the customisers fault if that is what was requested.
Insurance reasons is why he didn't do the electrical I bet. Something messes up and burns your place down. Yeah he's liable then
Cool idea and look, but definitely could of been done better. You got the prototype.
I’m not a fan of that paint job I think J Rod a.k.a. the custom NES guy would’ve done a wonderful job.
No one mentioning the PlayStation 3 text? 😍
for 350, its decent. Looks cool af tho

The best thing to come out of that is the controller, and i can assure you it ain't worth 350 bucks
"Two-toned"
Crazy I watched the dude who made this ps5 I mean youtube video
Honestly I don't like it. Computer case modder back in the late 90s early 2000s walked so molders now can run and this build ignores all of it. They could have inlayed the window with molding and used a heat gun to form the window slightly so there was less stain on the panel and that way panel is sealed and won't effect air pressure. The paint ranges from mediocre to horrendous. If I had to guess that's a type of plastidip for the paint because hypershift as an acrylic or enamel are expensive and the wrong clear was used, paint is uneven and I doubt any primer was used. The leds should have been tied into the power and mounted on the underside of the panel around the window. Inside should have been painted in gloss instead of semi gloss to reflect the leds better or better yet but more time consuming would be to polish the inside and the heat sinks so they really stand out. Payed alot of money for what is honestly an amateur job
Sounds like those reddit stories about modded consoles scams. Usually they're high on price and very poorly made like this one.
