I don't understand why there's not a blanket ban on nuts on airplanes. No one is going to die through having to go without nuts for the duration of their flight but the best outcome to an anaphylactic reaction at 40000 feet is an emergency landing for medical treatment and delays for all on board. I have no allergies and have never objected when cabin crew have requested for everyone to avoid eating nuts

@@noreply65 So you ban peanuts on aircraft. and in baggage? and prevent people from eating them 48 hours from before flight? and ensure that their clothing and baggage is cleaned as all these can cause cross contamination. @@WhiskeyAlphaPilotno. Ban it on the plane. No need to go further than that. People can live without eating a nut on a plane. My husband has a severe peanut allergy and the women next to him started complaining they couldnt eat their peanuts when it was announced to them there was a passenger on board with a severe allergy. He had to nicely tell them he was sorry but he had the allergy. They changed their tune pretty fast. He wipes his seat and tray down beforehand to avoid touching anything that may have had peanuts beforehand, but you can’t control if someone is eating them next to you and cracking shells making it airborne. There’s really no need for nuts to be on the plane, I think people will be far more inconvenienced to have to land early due to someone having a reaction

I have an almond allergy and have suffered anaphylactic shock twice, luckily on land and just about made it to a hospital. A severe attack gives a ten minute window. As one can't talk the patient can't answer questions. Nuts are crushed or made into a paste for some recipes, so airlines had better take all allergies very, very seriously and avoid not just nuts but other ingredients if a passenger has stated it pre flight. Wake up!

The airline was absolutely wrong to say that the meal had no nuts. It's the passenger who has allergies to ensure that he tells the airline that he has allergies when he books his ticket or he takes the responsibility to bring his own prepared food. This is not the first time he had allergies on a plane. Therefore, he should know better. You cannot forbid people to eat nuts or any other food that can cause allergies. People are allergic to shrimps, oranges and many other food. Should airlines forbid all these food? By the end of the day, there won't be any food allowed to be served on the plane. We should be responsible as well.

When a "SSR" (nut allergy) request is inserted into a passenger's reservation, that information is forwarded to the airline's catering dept that ensures that particular passenger's meal is prepared accordingly. Emirates won't remove nuts, as they make up a important component to their middle eastern diet. It's almost like saying don't include dairy in the UK. Nuts are also central to many middle eastern desserts. However, what isn't acceptable is that Jack wasn't able to view the ingredients, or that these weren't made readily available to him. Was his nut allergy advised at booking? Why were no menus handed out? Why would several crew answer no to nuts, when quite clearly this chicken curry has been served many times on this route, is this language barrier issues? So many questions. The crew members wouldn't have wanted to intentionally hurt him, however should have had the confidence to decline serving his this meal until certain of the ingredients. There is an onboard manager that could have easily checked this. Jack, with such a severe allergy, should have checked the ingredients before eating it, especially considering this is the second occasion onboard. He shouldn't HAVE to but unfortunately, this is the world we live in

Emirates DOES provide with a menu. It is READ OUT LOUD on the PA that most people ignore straight after takeoff, that you can see the menu on your phone after scanning the QR code. It is also RIGHT THERE on the home page of the screen before you click on anything to watch movies etc. Before you even step foot on the plane, after you book your ticket you can see the menu choices online in manage my booking settings. He had two chances to read the menu before ordering his food. Yes, the cabin crew should have been fully aware of the menu also. However, if you have an allergy it is YOUR responsibly to protect yourself.

If I had something so life threatening I wouldn't take anyone's word for it. Responsibility lies with him, it's his allergy. If I'm eating something that can be a potential threat then I want to see the packaging. I don't want to assume that it's safe because a second or third party told me. In light of the young girl who died from eating at Pret and the tireless work that her parents did to get clear labeling, you'd think that he'd be on the ball especially given that he's on a plane. He should have been more responsible and asked for the packaging.
