Food Allergy Awareness: 'Someone’s Life Is In Your Hands!' | This Morning

Ойын-сауық

Peanut allergies affect 2% of children, yet legally airlines can still allow passengers to eat and even purchase nuts on planes. Last month the family of a 12-year-old girl with a peanut allergy were reportedly forced off a SunExpress flight after airline staff refused to announce a ban on nuts. Campaigner Nadim Ednan-Laperouse knows these dangers firsthand; in 2016, he witnessed his 15-year-old daughter Natasha die after consuming a wrongly labelled baguette mid-flight. He joins us alongside Lindsey Bowers, a former This Morning producer and close friend of our beloved team member Amy May Shead, to share their stories. Plus, Professor Adam Fox will be showing us the secret anaphylactic shock signs that could save someone’s life.

Definitely i think airports should have a blanket ban on the most commonly allergenic foods like peanuts & seeds, but even if they didnt do this, EVERY ingredient MUST be displayed on the packet. The fact it wasnt should make them liable.

Really appreciate This Morning's work to create awareness of severe food allergies. They can be challenging to manage and many people don't appreciate the seriousness.

I remember being in secondary school, we were doing an experiment with nuts, our teacher asked did anyone had an allergy to nuts or unsure , as a couple years earlier as someone had a fit over doing the same experiment, a teacher forgot to ask the question. I don't think the school I went to do this experiment now.

This is terrifying to parents who have anaphylactic children. Even now my son is 23 and a masters student in Manchester I worry everyday.

Why Would The Airline Not Tell Passengers That Someone can't Have Nuts I'll Been on Jet 2 Flights and They always Say if someone can't have Them Or Not

@@Rebecca_Bailey it’s happened to lots of people with nut allergies. and one time I read about a woman on an emirates flight who was told to sit in the toilet for the whole flight if she decided to board because they refused to not serve nuts :|

@@KA-jo8vn yep. I always have my epipen with me. I’ve been on the plane where they ask people not to eat nuts and someone across from me did it anyway, despite the attendants repeatedly asking them not to. It’s not fun having a nut allergy. so even when you ask them to not eat them, you can’t guarantee your life and health anyway.

What a silly take. This can happen due to even slight traces of these foods. It’s not like the sandwich needs to have seeds or nuts spilling out of it. Clearly you’ve no clue how serious it can get.

Following on from the replies above. Not all ingredients can be seen and "look like" they are in it. They may have been ground down to enhance flavour. Or as is egg used to brush across to help items rise.
