I caught so many DIFFERENT fish from this tiny river! Species CHALLENGE
A post Christmas morning out on the River Lea in search of as many species as possible.
Home to a variety of species including Chub, Dace, Barbel & Roach we set out to see how many we could catch on light tackle trotting maggots.

@fishwithcarl you'd have no chance for any species!
Back in the 1950s/early 1960s I used to fish there regularly, there used to be some big shoals of cracking roach back then, some well over 2lb. The favourite method was very light ledgering using a small shot that would run through the swim and always holding the rod. The most productive bait was silk weed collected from the bridge stones. We used mostly natural baits back then, don't know why they're not used nowadays.
Nice one 👍 great to see what these small rivers old ... makes me want to get the float rod out again ....👍👍
Simple fishing is so good, 1 backpack and some comfy trainers for the day. Bivvy and sleeping bag has it's place but short sessions packed light hold a special spot for me.
Well done lad.A lot of fish being caught in the video. Just again a huge well done mate
Great video. I love the multi species stuff. The size of the tail fin on that Roach on minute 10 was awesome ❤.

@TheAmericanDane possibly, the tail does look a bit Breamy perhaps? Although no other obvious signs to my amateur eyes other than that big tail.

Yes incredible really..so others noticed it as well...
It’s amazing what these small rivers hold in town centres, where the Cormorants and Goosanders don’t get a chance to clean up 👍🏻
This was a lovely looking spot to fish…
I absolutely loved your video about Gudgeon on the river Wandle, there are some absolutely cracking barbel, just up from there in front of the Sainsburys, but I remember you fishing a forgotten forgotten ponds in north London, where you caught a 40lb carp, I'm sure I know where that pond is, I read the article in Carpology fishing Magazine

Love it Alfie! Keep the videos coming mate 👍🎣
Get so caught up with carp fishing sometimes and don't go unless I have the time to do a night or 2. Videos like this make me get out more and enjoy short sessions... great stuff Alfie 👌

Keep them coming 💯
Lovely video and a great session - just getting into fishing the small streams & rivers of Kent and it’s a wonderful way to spend a few hours in a day.
Remember that bridge in Carl and Alex videos before barbel of the surface on bread.
Great stuff mate. You can’t beat that sometimes, nice and simple, maggots and a float rod for whatever comes along 👌🏼
Quality stuff!!
Happy new year Alfie best wishes, look forward to more vids
Nice one Alfie that minnow was massive 😮
Nice chilling watch Alfie . There used to be lots of barbel stacked up in that part of the river .

Shocking music but great viewing well done👍😉👏👏👏
I grew up in wheathampstead, next time go more towards brocket hall. you can get some series barbel fish. If you become a member of verulam, you can fish the golden stretch of river going towards harpenden or towards hatfield.
Excellent! My favourite type of fishing 😁 Best is 9 species in a session, but never had a baby barbel.
I think you need to take more maggots next time 🤣 Another superb video! Keep them coming 💪
Nice video, very engaging.
Great video nice to see healthy fish and my favourite the gudgen, don't see any on our fishing club water no more great Linford angling club Milton Keynes, grand Union canal thanks to the signal crayfish I'd say
Where is this I want to go fishing with my son not been for about 20 years looks nice and peaceful would be ideal
Great video, is it free fishing there?
Great video mate. Tell mr whitman i said hello, old school friend of his.
Second species of the day was a baby barbel😊. I no my baby barbel
if I was there I'd probably live bait a minnow for a big perch or chub
What, no bleak?
Are those club waters you're fishing there buddy?
Great video, again like what Carl said, it felt like i was there with you. Do you think the Acolyte rods are the best there is out there at the moment
