CATCHING mini MONSTERS from a LONDON river
A day out with the float rods exploring & fishing the banks of the River Wandle in search of Monster Gudgeon.
The River Wandle is a chalk stream in South London and is home to a variety of fish species such as Minnows, Gudgeon, Chub, Barbel & many more.

Thank you. All the kind words are really appreciated always! ❤
Good to see someone fishing for the sake and enjoyment of fishing and not just fishing for monster carp. Very enjoyable video.

Thank you John ! Fishing for all species is what it’s about!
Carp, pike, even shark and tuna, thats some spectacular fishing on your channel. But only a true fisherman will take all that trouble just for some mini species fishing. Loved it... keep it up!

Thanks mate, I just love fishing no matter what I'm catching!
I am 55 now and barely see a gudgeon in my local canal anymore. I remember having gudgeon competitions when I was a kid and I think the record was over 100.

They don’t live very long so I’m guessing maybe died out. And never recovered :(

Used to catch loads of gudgen on the grand Union canal in Milton Keynes never see any now our angling club has matches every Sunday never any caught, I blame the signal crayfish eating the gudgen spawn

Bradford on Avon this autumn I had loads of gudeon and ruff.
Gudgen were amongst the very first fish I ever caught in the canal on white maggots 👌🏻 Awesome as always Alfie
Enjoyed watching that Alfie brought back some memories i havnt caught a minnow or a gudgeon for at least 60 yrs when i last fished the river Roding
That's taken me back a good few years ' roaming the river Kyle as a lad 9ft fibre glass rod old regal reel couple of floats hooks to nylon and a pint of maggots " and yes gudgeon in abundance. 👍
Surprise Surprise was I certainly wasnt expecting to see a young man fishing for the humble Gudgeon. Thank you Alfie excellent vid mate and good angling catching those fish.

I enjoyed watching that, such simple fishing and it is not all about fishing to catch the biggest fish at all costs. Tight lines.
Good stuff Alfie ! Look forward to your next one !

I haven't fished for about 50 years (I'm 73 now), and I used to live nearby in Carshalton for many years, so I have lovely memories of the Wandle. It's sure had more than its fair share of polution over the years, so it's great to see it looking at least reasonable, and to know there are some good fish there. Very nice well filmed video which I really enjoyed.Happy fishing to you.
One of my first fishing memories was when I was around 4 or 5 years old, whip fishing the cut with my grandad and we had over 400 gudgeon in an afternoon. I’ve only had 2 gudgeon out of the same stretch in 5 years. Good trip down memory Lane, cheers Alf 👍🏻

You are welcome mate. 😊
Looked like a brilliant session - love light fishing on little rivers and streams, thanks for the video
When I fish fast waters like this I find adding some gravel to my groundbait really helps with getting it to the bottom faster and in the area where I want it to be, especially when there's a deeper area within the swim I want to fish. It helps to avoid the smaller fish that are up in the water as well. Great fishing video 🙂🎣
I fished parts of the Wandle near that mill some 60 years ago! Good luck!
Nice to see someone keeping it real. Life's too short to sit behind buzzers all the time.

Nice video bud lovely little monsters
Nice one alfie gudgeon fishing fond memories 👍
our canals were full of gudgeon and ruff/ pope,,,,but now none zander put in the canals in the late 70,s illegal stocking by predator anglers meant gudgeon and ruff were wiped out from millions per mile to nothing ,its nice to see they are still viable as a species ,,
The river mole is full of gudgeon and some decent sized ones too. I’ve not had any from the wandle, loads of chub and roach. Still after barbel tho
My old man used to take me to this bit of river. I found ledgering under the bridges or overhangs could often pick out the better gudgeon. Was absolutely amazed there were so many near record size on my doorstep!
Yeah really good watch, love doing what you have been doing . It’s chills the mind 👍nice one.
A great watch like how you change it up alfie respect

Great fishing..what super minnows..any river or water with a head of gudgeon in a thriving ecosystem. My biggest gudgeon was caught in a little holiday bamboo handled net...it was going on 15 cm...those were the days..
Good stuff. I went gudgeon fishing last week, but kept running into big roach so not too disappointed. There are not as many around nowadays.
Nice one Alfonzo, cool lil video clip that was mate, and a great reminder of how beautiful our smaller species are in the uk, the colors in the flanks of the Gudgeon in particular are fantastic, there’s a range of colors but not one individual one that you can put your finger on.

Remember the size of the gudgeon Chris & Bob were getting into on redmire in the old passion for angling series.
Good stuff as always bud 👍🏻👍🏻
Rate the fact you've made time for the smaller species in the river. It's predominantly carp and barbel fishermen these days but you can't beat a good day trotting on the pin👌🏽

It’s just about fishing for me! ☺️!
Nice video that. You'd love LRF! It transfers into Freshwater really well. All I could think while watching was "a split shot rig would be amazing there"!
I fish the Wandle quite a lot and I've found that the bigger gudgeon prefer to eat chunks of Spam.
What most off us caught all those years ago , and I haven’t seen any off those fish for probably 35 years or more , great video makes a change fella 👍

I have heard many British men brag about the big long rods but this guy had to whip his out and show everyone on youtube 🤣
Hi Alfie, you might think about having a Maggot bag around your neck in case you kick the bait box over what with you not using a seatbox & bait tray!!
brilliant
Mega!
The lake I grew up fishing had plenty of gudgeon inn years ago the anglers used to catch them and chuck them inn the bushes pretty shocking looking back
Lovin it Alfie!I live in an urban set up and the water ways local to me have always provided me with sport if you know where to look😉.
Hello Alfie, just found your channel, must say really enjoyed this a lot, new sub mate, really nice clear video, great job, there must be some Chub in there, love those sort of waters, Gudgeon, have not caught one for years.

The canal systems are probably your best bet for accessible pike fishing, Walthamstow reservoir and the lea up in North London are good too, the Thames is good too heading further west

Those are too small for the perch I catch 😜 it’s also illegal to transport fish from venue to venue. Just a heads up.
Why is it acceptable to lob gudgeon, dace and other small fish from 3 feet in the air back into the water but have to kiss carp whilst you're groin deep in cold water to make sure it is safe?

What? Carp are not as aerodynamic as gudgeon?@@Dodgybackjack

@@stevejeffrey7948 kinetic energy < binding energy. The size of the fish (& terminal velocity) plays a bigger part than species. A lot of North American lakes are restocked by plane drop. Refer to Bell & DeLacey (1972)
