Good Day Matt. Far be it for me to tell you how to fish cause you are da man, but can I recommend that you go out the day before your trip at low tide, get ya some boots, walk the low water mark near small rocks, and flip over rocks looking for Mud Crabs. Mud Crabs are near as good as Fiddlers. Used to do this when I lived in Jax in the Navy (poor man) for free bait. Lil Bit and Courtney might even like it.

Always enjoy the vids Matt. Winter fishing is always a little sketchy. My opinion which you may or may not appreciate. Courtney getting mad about not catching any fish doesn’t set a good example for Annalise. Enjoy what Mother Nature provides.

You still need to get a full size net. A suggestion for you. Right up a trailing hook for the tail end of your bait. You will catch more fish that way.

I think when you use shrimp for bait for sheepshead use a smaller piece of shrimp don't let it hang down of the hook to much but you are right crab is better good luck

Have you ever tried using crickets tied with the invisible bait string when the crabs are unavailable? The have a like resemblance and the string should help to keep them on the hook longer. It would also be a less cost than either the crabs or the shrimp. Just a thought. Good luck either way and congratulations to you and the family on your business. And enjoy that boat!!

We that live on the gulf coast. Of Alabama know that fishing in the winter is difficult. Sheepshead swirl their food off the hook, avoiding contact with the hook.

Ghost shrimp threaded up the hook like a worm for bream and they’ll take it every time they hit from my experience. I’ve never had one just hit and steal the ghost shrimp they thump it and have it. Black drum do the same thing with em.

OK, AGAIN, when fishing for those famous bait stealing sheepshead, use a split shot above a long shank J hook (not too big but stout enough for those big guys) and put on a PIECE of shrimp, not the whole shrimp. Barnacles (they love ‘em) are SMALL. They’ll just tear your shrimp apart and steal it (most of the time). Using the whole shrimp you have to be lucky to score frequently or hook a giant. Using the described rig and pieces of shrimp will up your percentage. If there’s a giant in the school he’ll bite too. Good luck!
