You probably have a first aid kit in the tractor. My addition to that would be a roll of Vet Wrap. VR and a few assorted gauze pads and you can bandage anything from a finger to a leg or your head. It is also a stretchy, tough, self-sticking wrap that with imagination can rival duct tape.

I keep a small bucket with a lid in the sprayer, two tractors with these items. Flashlight, magnetic flasher, first aid kit, kleenex, clean rags, several small trash bags, roll of gorilla tape, coil of wire, 3 bungee straps, leather gloves, disposable gloves, sharpie marker, two pencils, two pins, small note pad, unopened bottle of water for emergency flush of skin or eyes, safety goggles, couple pkgs ear plugs, small umbrella (sounds crazy but it has saved one or both of us from heat stroke when working on broken down equipment. my John thought I was crazy one day when the heat index was 110 and it took us two hours in sourcing sun to fix the planter) plot book, zip ties in different lengths, pliers, flat & phillips screw driver, 2 sizes of hitch pins (as never right one in tool box) tire gage, valve stem caps, two small 2x4 blocks and lastly a bottle neck jack. This fits nicely between the cab seat and buddy seat on the floor. Then in my arm console I carry chapstick, kleenex pkg, granola bar's, peppermint altoids (stick under tounge when sleepy wow) laminated list of farm field addresses and emergency family members number's (sadly that has helped) phone charger small note pad and sharpie marker, laminated list of hook up hydrolics for each implement incase i have to hook up on my own i get it right. We travel a 60 mile radius to farm and I also stock my tool box. I keep a tight inventory on this so needs hopefully can be meet. John used to roll his eye's and grunt until he needed something and we were 40 miles away from the shop when i pulled out the bucket. Now it's a thank you and tells me when he uses something.

Something else that I used to use for ice packs was bottles of water, then as they melt you have cold water to drink. I'd put a whole case of water in the freezer and take them as I needed them. I also carried a Leatherman Wave on my belt instead of pilers, they weren't quite as strong, but they had many more uses. Leatherman also stands behind the warranty as I had to have them fixed a couple of times. As a crane operator for 25 years, I know what it's like living in a cab all the time.

Laura, years ago I obtained a couple of the reflective car window shades. A friend sewed them into a shape to fit around my cooler. This alone extended the life of ice by about three days. My suggestion is to do the same for your bag and sew the reflective stuff all the way around but especially on the bottom. You can also add a bit of Styrofoam to the bottom and lower sides, then cover it with the reflective stuff. You can also make a box, insert Styrofoam along the bottom and sides, then drop your carrybag into the insulated box. (I have a box from Omaha Steaks which works great for things like this). If you have a 12 v outlet, buy an electric fridge unit like the ones many 4x4 clubs use. They work really well and are easily moved from tractor to tractor or truck. I saw you working very hard to ratchet the nuts off your "wheels". I bought an electric battery powered impact wrench last year and have found it works extremely well for quickly removing nuts & bolts. You should have a general purpose (GP) tool bag with enough tools to handle small tasks like the one you needed to do on the feeder. If you don't have the tools, you'll have to wait while someone comes out to where you are planting or working to bring the tools to you. Save time. The impact wrench should be one of your favorite tools since it saves time. I'm not a farmer but both my parents, my grandparents on both sides, as well as a lot of other relatives. They farmed in the Sand Hill area between Benkelman and McCook to Haigler. Myself, I worked in business. Only one brother worked in Agriculture, and he had a cattle ranch in Colorado.

Ok, now I'm truly impressed. Only the best farmers can carry on an intelligent conversation while turning the tractor around in the field as well as pushing buttons, flipping switches, head on a swivel, monitoring all the software and not even break a sweat. You are smoooooth, not to mention you can apply makeup while planting.

Hi Laura, I love your passion in what you do; reminds me of my summer jobs at a farm here in Texas. We didn’t have all that computer stuff back then and no cab on my John Deere. Someone else (sometimes me lol) would have to ride on the back to check on the planters and make sure seeds were being planted since the driver had no way of knowing. When seeds would get stuck, we’d have to stop to make necessary repairs or refill planters when they’d go empty. You’ve talked about windy days and sand blowing all over the place…well with no cab on tractor and sometimes riding on the back to check on planters, at the end of the day after 12 hours on the job, I’d have like 20 pounds of sand on my face and all over my body, so much so that you couldn’t recognize me …applying sunscreen lotion, which I’d usually do, made it worse lol 😂 Wished we’d had all the modern technology that is available today back then and things would’ve been much easier. Keep the videos coming… I really enjoy them. 🚜

It is great to keep hydrated, and I have been known to take on board 10 pints or more each day. However, others of my age (male well over 70) will confirm, being stuck in the fields, can become a personal issue, so good luck and always take care, farming uses dangerous equipment. You really are one resourceful farmer, ready to deal problems that get thrown up, a credit to your family and your personal values, since you do it all with a smile plus good grace.

Hi Laura, Yeti soft coolers are to go to for us. A more expensive option but they don’t leak, are cold at end of the day with only a blue ice block or two and you’ll have it for years. Keep up the great work!

That's interesting to me how you do your planting. I'm not a farmer, I'm a truck driver. But I pass fields in the Midwest all the time and see work being done but to see the operation is pretty cool.

I love your video's . I would make sure to have a first aid /trauma kit. Boo-boos happen all the time and having basic band-aids is helpful, , but being able to take care of something major until better trained help arrives could be life changing.

You can always reuse your HelloFresh Mylar bags(silver bubble wrap bags) to double line your cooler bag.

as for a cooler i use a Cooler Backpack the one i use is a Carhartt 2-in-1 Insulated Cooler Backpack(for when i go hiking and when i have to drive a lot for work) you might find a different once that works better for you since its really individually what works.

I would recommend a small tool box. Tools are of what you think you might need on a regular basis.

After seeing the prices of food going up in the stores, I hope this translates into a higher profits for producers. Fuel, fertilizer and parts have gone up ridiculously. Consumers need to pay a fair price to keep farmers profitable.

Your bag should be covered by something loose to keep the radiant sun off it. You could try your sweatshirt when you take it off. Something loose, darkening, but light exterior cloth, that doesn’t absorb a lot of heat and air can flow to keep that heat from conducting efficiently to the bag exterior. A loose covering would also slow warm air getting in if you leave it unzipped for convenience.

Howdy from Texas ! Row cleaners ! Sometimes seems like everything goes at once. You mentioned lots of down pressure? Maybe you could rock the planter back with the top link just a little for just a hair less down pressure on the cleaners ? Not sure if you’re having bearing failures or it’s just time for them to go ! Best of luck and keep looking up !!
