    Nice work and vids. I really like the work you did not over-commiting in the scissors, and instead giving your oppenent bad angles to work with if they try and snap shot. I have to admit that I had never thought to bring the slats in, but i've never really struggled too much on staying on the tail of an F-5, but it's still worth trying. Where I think it will be really useful is when i'm trying to get on speed in a rate fight, as you reach a place when your close to on speed where the slats come out. Usually I just control my pull to prevent it, but I think pulling in the slats manually will help. One thing with the landing, your touch down was nice enough that you could have continued aero-braking, by keeping the AoA in the green or blue. As long as you don't go into the red you won't tailstrike. It slows you down really well. You then put the nose down at about 120knots. Doing that you won't need the chute (unless your runway is really short). Great flying

    The fuel warning light comes on at around 560l (liters, not kg!) I believe. Just some addnl info: Combat flaps is essentially an auto-setting for flaps half - the flap and slat travel is identical. "Auto slats" - which is always on, unless you manually retract the slats via the hi lift devices switch - will give you less slat travel than combat flaps. Looks like you're getting there with the landings =)

    I'm getting confused, so please correct my idiot brain if I'm wrong: Auto slats = good Combat flaps = gooder

  • @Bullet4MyEnemy

    @Bullet4MyEnemy

    Depends if you’re trying to turn faster or accelerate, combat flaps are good for both. Auto slats is the setting by default, but if you’re trying to recoup speed quicker you can force them up sooner.

    Hi, about the combat flaps you mentioned. I use the following binds on the stick - " Combat flap button" and Combat flap lever". For landing I use "Slat/Flap Lever - full up" and "Slat/Flap full flap". Is there anything else to this? Thanks a lot !

  • @Bullet4MyEnemy

    @Bullet4MyEnemy

    3 ай бұрын

    Only thing you can’t do with those binds is have the flaps down independent of the slats being up, there’s an additional set of binds related to “high lift devices” that control the slats independently - but at this stage I’m not sure how much of a benefit that would actually bring.

    Are you okay with taking feedback on your videos? First of all the image and sound quality are superb but I would recommend, for the bits where you're doing a commentary voice-over, to lower the DCS volume much more than than what you do now.

  • @Bullet4MyEnemy

    All criticism is taken on board, and that’s a fair one, audio balancing is what I feel I’m weakest at. It’s tougher than you might appreciate though, because I see comments on other peoples’ videos bemoaning it because of music choice or blocking out the jet noise or whatever and I feel the need to make the game audio actually notable in the background; but I can’t separate gameplay audio from comms with other people so it’s a battle between the jet being heard, the background chatter being suppressed and then the commentary not being overpoweringly loud to the point I might as well mute the background all together. Need to look into alternate software that lets me separate audio tracks but I’d still very much say this is a hobby rather than an occupation so it’s hard to justify the time commitment, or any potential costs, to something I can just work around.

    The combat flaps I'm familiar with but I've never thought to retract the slats manually. When I'm rolling over the top, what switch/button needs to be pressed to tuck the slats back in?

    It’s not bound by default I don’t think but the switch is by the throttle with a black and yellow striped “hazard” style backing - the binding is called "high lift devices"

    What exactly is the benefit of retracting the slats? And how much of a advantage does it give to use the combat flaps? Any flap increase lift but also siginificantly drag?

  • @djbiscuit1818
    @djbiscuit18183 ай бұрын

    8:17 can you explain a bit? Whenever I'm slow enough and/or pulling enough AoA, the slats come down. I wasn't aware there's a way to force them up like on the F-5. Is there a bind for that? How are you forcing your slats up? EDIT: Also, that warning light at about 12 minutes ("NIV") is a fuel tank warning light. It pops on when either feeder tank is ≤250L. Because you have 2 feeder tanks and draw equally from them, it's effectively a ≤500L warning.

  • @Bullet4MyEnemy

    Yes, exactly like the F-5 - though the flap and slat controls are separate rather than tied together. To find the bind search for “high lift devices” the cockpit switch for it is next to the throttle.

    Yes 87 is specifically for the bombs, you’ll see the pipper centring on the inverted T cross on the HUD during the runs at the start. For air to air mode you get a gyro pipper and it’s awful - since this video I have actually started setting to 44 and using the ground attack mode to lock a static pipper in the right place but it’s not SOP to do that.
