I can't believe we finally got this closure in Endwalker

Ойындар

FINALLY. REAL closure for Moenbryda's death. Ishikawa is on another level for pulling this one out of her sleeve. The hug between Bloewyda and Urianger is one of the most moving scenes I've ever seen in this game.

Ah, I see you've reached the Advanced Hugging Technology cutscene. It's a shame it took so long to be able to rig that up properly, even for a cutscene with two specific characters so they don't have to make it work for everyone - but I don't think there's anyone more deserving of being in that hug.

I think a part of why they didn't do it for Thancred and Ryne (as many would like) is simply due to their size differences. I imagine the 3d skeletons to be quite a bit limited, and it might just not have looked good.. Or perhaps they just felt a hand on the head to be more appropriate for Thancred.. *shrug*

@@ExileTwilight The skeleton rigs are actually really really complex. The reason they don't do this often is because it takes a hell of a lot of effort to get all the bones moving properly.

I just saw this cutscene for the first time last night myself. I have watched it over and over and I cry and cry and cry. This one hits hard. Harder than Moenbrydas death back in ARR to be honest. Back then I didn't know how very important she was for him but after seeing this I wish I could go back and save her as well. But now at least Urianger gets the closure he deserved.

I've played a female Roegadyn since I started, back in January 2014. We've always been the least-played group - typically about 1-3% of any given server. Back then, that meant I could go weeks without seeing another one, whether NPC or player, outside of our occasional interactions with Merlwyb. Then, in 2.4, they introduced this brash, brilliant character who fits right into our squad and is unapologetically herself. And then, not even a whole patch later, they took her away again, in as permanent a way as possible. I'll always look at it as one of the worst storytelling decisions they've ever made. Since then, there have been minor femroe characters flitting in and out of the MSQ (Midnight Dew in Idyllshire, Stark Woad in late Stormblood) and important ones in its side content (Mitsuba and Misija come to mind), but there's never been another I thought might endure as a member of the core supporting characters. When Endwalker came out, it had been around six and a half years since 2.5. I was pleased that Ishikawa had acknowledged Moenbryda frequently in Shadowbringers, and even moreso in Endwalker as the story and sidequests progressed, but I still expected it to come to little. And then this scene happened, and I ended up full-body sobbing into a pillow for almost ten minutes, so much so that my wife came over to check on me. It felt like someone finally understood just how important this character was to some of us, and offered us a long-belated catharsis. I didn't realize until that second how much that meant to me. I still miss her, but I don't feel cheated by her loss in the same way as I did before.

Apparently Moenbryda was one of the NPCs Ishikawa created according to an interview. And she apparently was furious when another writer went and killed her off so quickly. I like to think that both ShB and EW are her revenge. She lost her beloved NPC so now she gets to make the rest of us cry.

I've been playing XIV since ARR beta phase 3 and out of *every* cutscene, NOTHING has hit me as hard as this scene. In ARR, I felt anger at Noraxia's fate, at Livia for harming a *child* like that. In HW, grief over Ysayle especially. Sympathy for Count Edmund. Again in SB for Gosetsu and Tsuyu, and of course in ShB, everyone knows. But all of those emotions paled in comparison to how rough Moenbryda's parents hit me. The only time I had to step away from the game to take a breather.

Did you wonder why everyone was asking you if you did Coils? You didn't include that part in your video but during the talk with Kokkol the WoL can have a PTSD flashback where he imagines the White Raven's ghost haunting him, and Alisaie has to comfort them. That isn't an option if you haven't done Coils and all you have is the cheerful "should I go get the whatsits" or complaining about more chores. One thing to keep in mind for Moenbryda is it's been longer for Urianger than for her parents, since he spent years on the First, but he's still in mourning. That entire cutscene is just one huge reward for doing the side content: If you haven't done Sky Pirates it's a generic Temple Knight instead of Leofard and Cait Sith. If you haven't done Four Lords Soroban appears but there's no extra voice lines and they don't donate Tenzen's sword. If you haven't done Ivalice the Prima Vista is there but they don't talk about wanting to do another adventure with you. If you haven't done Omega then Omega and Alpha aren't there. If you haven't done Werlyt there's no package from Gaius Cid delivers along the way. If you haven't done Alexander Boulder doesn't talk about the gobbiebooms and the Idyllshire people helping you. 1:04:01 That's the first time the final member of the First Brood was mentioned. 1:04:35 Yeah, he only woke up for a moment to say yes. If you haven't read all the short stories on the lodestone I'll put spoiler tags for it. Scroll down if you want to see. 1:07:15 You are gonna get destroyed by this next part. 1:11:45 Another "it is beautiful/it is not beautiful". I need a counter for these. 1:13:25 When this line came up I couldn't help but think thus: "MY influence!? Up until the Bloody Banquet it was YOUR kids dragging ME all around the realm into danger, not the other way around!" One of them follows the descendents of the Ironworks after they sent G'raha and the Crystal Tower back in time as they begin to try to rebuild their world. Omega is still in his toy chassis and has begun to understand the human soul, at least a bit. Middy has rejuvenated himself after 200 years and his body around the Keeper of the Lake comes back to life. He approaches the Ironworks folks and pledges to help them rebuild the world.

i personally feel that the closure with urianger happening so much later in the game from ARR to EW made a lot of sense. because had the closure happened immediately, well then that's it! closure for moenbryda done! move on and reminisce! but in EW, we get to see just how much urianger bottled it up, kept it inside, and we also learn (by moen's parents own words) how much he was crying when writing the letter and just how much he couldnt face them in person to deliver the news idk. in my personal opinion, it shows a lot more character depth to leave it for that long and to be able to learn later on that yeah urianger is keeping that from you, in order to protect people from his own grief and probably because he feels like it would burden them. ive seen ppl getting annoyed at how EW takes stuff from ARR and either offers explanations or closure, but to me waiting on it is much more rewarding. to finally not have a game that is hounding you with A Bad Event > Closure > Another Bad Event > Closure over and over but actually taking the time to make characters react like how real people would... by trying to avoid potential closure because it scares them. like a lot of us who went through this fully expected moenbryda's mom to begin yelling at him but instead we got this. god its so good

Zenos is absolutely right in what he said. But at the same time, so was Alisae. She struck to the core of Zenos' problem, his great malaise - He seeks connection with others, like any other person. But he's unable to, save through the thrill of battle. But he struggled to find even one person to connect to this way, and even then they turned away from him. Alisae pointed out that if he could not care for others, they would not care for him. Obvious to most, but Zenos is a complete sociopath, and human emotion is an enigma to him. He sought to cause despair and hatred because that would make the WoL fight harder, but it wasn't what he really wanted. What he WANTED was a connection with them. Alisae's words forced Zenos to consider that the petty, unimportant things other people pursued were not petty and unimportant to THEM, and that it didn't matter if HE valued or understood them. He had bid them find meaning in their lives themselves, yet had always dismissed that meaning they had found, and that blocked him from making the connection he craved. He was broken, irredeemable and vicious... but even he evolved a little in the course of the story.

The Zenos scene to me almost feels like a fourth wall break calling out all the simps for supreme genocide-doer Emet-Selch. "Would you be happier had I a good reason?" No, no I would not. Though a sizable portion of the playerbase seems to disagree on whether Emet even counts as a villain, despite him being almost incalculably evil, just because his evil had a tragic backstory, as most evil does.

Someone being labeled a villain a lot of time mean some mustache twirling "I'm a big bad" type of character. It's hard to put Emet into that bucket. He is a villain but I think many prefer to just say he's an antagonist. Also understanding why someone is doing something makes it much harder to throw on labels and dislike. His character is easy to like, but what he does is still awful.
