  • @getrippt

    @getrippt

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Carrboro Bear There’s a lot of different factors that will determine if prints are taken. The process itself is not difficult, but it’s what happens to the prints afterward that’s time consuming. Typically sent off to a lab and most are backed up months or over a year. A property crime would not be very high on the list of priorities for the lab either. Even a motor vehicle theft wouldn’t be very important in comparison to all the other horrible stuff going on today. Results may vary by size of department also. If it’s a small department, maybe they have the time to do a really good investigation and possibly solve it. A large department are typically dealing with homicides, felony assault, etc. That card he was given is essentially a report number so the victim can give it to their insurance to start a claim.

    Depends wer you live. The father you are from large population centers the less crime there is. I live in a city were I lock everything but I come from a small town 100km north of here. Nobody locks anything and my Dad actually leaves his wallet in an unlocked vehicle. 😂 I wouldn't dream of doing that where I live. The worst thing that happens in that town is under age drinking and the grocery store gets broken into sometimes. My guess is some seedy locals saw that some out off towners broke down and then hatched a plan to steal it and strip it. I wouldn't doubt they were stipping it on that cliff, saw Matt and the guys show up and then took off. Otherwise theyd have taken more.

    Happened to me while camping 2 months ago. We left the camp to go fishing. Came back 4 hours later happy looking forward to a fish dinner and fun around a fire. Only to find out my son's mini bike, two of our coolers with food and drinks got stolen. They tried to pry open our RV door. But thankfully they didn't get it open. They ruined a wonderful time for sure. My daughter was afraid they were going to come back and didn't want to stay the last 2 nights. It made me mad.

Also, catching actual criminals can result in them disagreeing rather violently, sometimes in a manner that is even deadly... Thus, high risk, low reward... Revenue enhancement activities (i.e. traffic fines) is relatively low risk and high reward since the people just pay the fine usually (even if they are not guilty) because it is not worth their time and trouble to fight it. It's just human nature to go with low risk and high reward. I might not like their revenue enhancement endeavors, but I can see whey they would choose it over actually catching real criminals. It's probably been over 20 years since I "supplemented their income", but I'm at least enough of a realist to know that it is basically a case of "follow the money"...

    Fingerprinting isn’t as easy as the movies would make you believe, and even then, the fingerprints need to be on file for a match. Add to that the rate of Victims who don’t want to follow through after insurance has covered the loss, and many cases end up not getting to court even with good evidence. Another issue is the priorities of the county for charging. A small loss property crime, would be less likely to be charged than say an assault with injury. That being said, it’s BS like this that affects us more almost, and it’d be great to be able to investigate every crime and catch every miscreant that does this crap.

    @@MichaelMarvin well they were just driving around in a open cockpit vehicle, in the same weather. I''m sure the sand blowing in the face is worse than just sitting around calmly for a tow. But hey some people can take it, some can't and like @ConnorHD3 said maybe they didn't give a shit.

    Even if you don't have cell phone service and nobody seems to be seeing your smoke signals or carrier pigeons? Think about it the other way, what if you're stranded out there and thugs come along and do harm to you, too? It's just a vehicle, if worth much then have insurance on it.

    It doesn't surprise me one bit. In our canals down here in S. Florida we have had matching Jags in the canal. One had the radio stolen out of it. The other had the tires and rims missing. 200 cars a year have been pulled out in some years. We've had them dumped with more than one car sitting nose to tail so that the rear of the second one was out of the water. Both were stripped. Stolen boats have been found in the canals. Including one that came up against the intake grates of our pump station. When the police called the owner, traced thru the reg #, the owner said it wasn't his as his was in his backyard. Police asked him to go out and check. When he came back on the phone, he said his boat wasn't there.But we already knew that. It also had been stripped of the fish finder, engine and stern drive, and the seats and top. There was an auto chop shop operating in the area. The police ended up setting up for a couple nights an observation post on top of our building. Several days later, about a half dozen unmarked vehicles and a few more marked vehicles showed up. Came in and told us we might want to be in another location if possible for a few hours. They raided the chop shop and were expecting troubles.
