Symptoms
In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead.
Male-pattern baldness
Women tend to lose hair along the part.
Female-pattern baldness
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) is sometimes preceded by itchy or painful scalp.
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)
Repeated stress on the hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.
Traction alopecia
t's becoming increasingly common for menopausal women to experience frontal fibrosing alopecia, in which the hairline moves back.
Frontal fibrosing alopecia
Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.
Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:
Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.
When to see a doctor
See your doctor if you are distressed by persistent hair loss in you or your child and want to pursue treatment. For women who are experiencing a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia), talk with your doctor about early treatment to avoid significant permanent baldness.
Also talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your or your child's hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.
People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out.

The interesting thing to me about saying that wearing a hairsystem is "hiding", is that when they take it off, they completely shave their heads. Why not just display your real hair growth? Isn't shaving your head completely bald a form of "hiding" also? If we're talking about honesty in appearance, than why wear clothes? Clothes are a form of hiding your body isn't it? There's hardly anything that is natural in human society: the internet that we are on now isn't natural, cars we drive are not natural, the laws and governments we form are not natural... all these things were created to solve human problems and improve society. A hairsystem is just an invention to improve your appearance and solve a common problem, no different than clothes or makeup or any other thing that humans have created. Whether you feel negatively or positively about them, it's ultimately all in your head.

Your comment is the best one I’ve read under this post and is really very deep and even philosophical! You’re right, anything we see around is sort of “fake” and hides our nature, why have any haircut done at all then since it hides your real hair growth and therefore hides who you really are, or why whitening teeth as it hides your real colour so you’re lying to everyone about having white teeth then?! Why wear well fitted clothes to emphasise good feature of our body and hide disadvantages of it?! It’s also considered fake then?!..

Yeh, I think it is another form of hiding, certainly was for me. Once I had shaved my head it certainly felt 1000 times better but I wouldn’t let it grow more than a couple of days as I didn’t want the balding to show. To really be comfortable I had to allow it to grow a bit and still feel ok, which I can now do. The difference between hiding it with hair/wig/products/drugs and by shaving is that (for me) for me shaving takes away all thought about it, I spend zero time in the day thinking about it, genuinely, if anything, I revel in being bald and am proud of it, something I NEVER thought I would be able to say.

Everyone's story is different and perhaps the route on how I got to wearing a system was anything but hiding. I started shaving bald at 18 yr old for about 4-5 years, before I even considered getting a hair piece. I struggled quite a bit the first couple of years but then came to accept it and be confident in it. I started looking into wearing a hairpiece because I thought it would look better with how I wanted to present myself. I then tried it out and like how I look in it. I am very open about wearing a hair system and I don't feel like I am hiding the fact that I went bald on top. It is style that I chose to have. to me its nothing different from my friend who has a full head of hair but chooses to shave it because he likes the style (Mainly the convenience). I always find it funny when people say these things with such harsh B&W thinking when things are NEVER simple, yes it could be hiding and insecure ridden for some but it also can be confident and completely freeing for others. Everyone is unique and people need to start treating it so

We all need to be upfront about it and stop trying to hide the fact that we are wearing hair systems. I tried it 4 years ago and one of the reasons I quit was the fear of being found out. I'm trying again from next week onwards. The more open we are about it, the less stigma there will be in our society. It's up to us, right now.

My theory is that it's mainly people who haven't achieved particularly natural results that continue to wear hair and have anxiety. Deep down, he knew his system didn't look great and I imagine that subliminally or overtly, people he met reflected those doubts. If you achieve natural results (that you're proud of) then you feel better about yourself, you act more confident around others and you get back what you give out.

Totally his experience, but he clearly has anxiety and worries about what others think. If it's not hair, it will be something else. If he's more comfortable in his own skin now, then all the power to him. It doesn't matter what I think of him with or without hair. The only opinion that matters is his. My takeaway? Thank you to Jake and all others who share their experiences and knowledge creating an informative community for those of us with hair systems. I'm a newb (6 months), but an informed one - which has made my experience so far a success. It's sad to think, but maybe this gentleman didn't have the resources and support over the past 20 years that we now have today? Not having water touch his hair since he was 27? Seriously?

MY POV: Hair system is like any allopathic treatment we go , there is nothing in world unnatural...as everything is derived from Nature..if you clearly think. Only thing we are doing this to earn self respect with or without hair. Just using any external thing we should be careful that it should not be affecting us physically... Like in case of hair patch .... Excess sweat should be drained... Proper adhesive to be used. And if u worry about girl will think blaah blaah...dont assume the things... If one does reject after learning you are using hair system... For me it will be girl is not intelligent enough for sure. Litmus check😂

I told all my friends I’m wearing a hair system and they love it. Many of them thought I got a hair transplant haha. So far I’m enjoying the experience, of course, I still don’t know what the future holds with all the sweaty outdoor activities and other obstacles I have to face, but I’m excited to adapt and learn and hopefully won’t get bored and tired from the process of maintaining a hair system.

I watched that video before I saw yours about it. I initially thought that guy was nutts, because he was complaining about just about everything. I mean, he was getting emotional just taking the piece off, when the hair cutting hadn't even started yet. I call it a hair piece, because there is no system to it; it's a toupee you glue on. Anyhow, this guy was making me nervous. I don't know why guys don't just cut their thinning hair really short, rather than have to decide between only two choices. I think that guy would have looked good that way, but he didn't even give it a chance. I've cut mine to about 1/8 inch or so for years myself. I don't think I have to go bald completely. You can't tell I'm thin on top if I have a cap on, but I don't wear them inside. I'd like to get a hair piece, but I can't justify the cost, because there are things I want more right now for about the same yearly cost (like motorcycle payments). I like Jake's hair in this one. Not a big fan of it brushed back, but looks great thrown just below the hairline. Not to hide it, but just because it looks good on the face. I don't comment on all your stuff, but I do watch it. I wanted to jump in on this particular one, because I had seen the video you're talking about. I agree with you that if I had those mountains of problems, I wouldn't have been wearing one for 20 years in the first place.

I went through major hair thinning through my 40s. I didn't care much, as I was happily married. I just wore a ball cap most of the time. And I ride a Harley, so I also wore a dew rag. After my divorce, I had a couple of short term girlfriends; they didn't seem to care that my hair was thin. In any case, I was toying with the idea of shaving my thinning hair off. But my sister (being a hairdresser) said, "why don't you try this (she showed me a video of guys swimming and doing everything as in normal life) so I said "sure, let's do it" Since then I've had a few more short term relationships, and a FWB. I only ever told my FWB because it was a long term relationship. She really didn't care much, and our relationship played it's course and ended. Since then I've had a couple of short term relationships, but I really didn't feel the need to say anything. Now I have been dating a woman, and it is getting serious enough that we are talking about living together. We haven't dated long, but we are a great match. Of course I will have to tell her, but I'm thinking on waiting until I have to do a re-application of my hair (probably about 2 or 3 weeks after she moves in. If she wants to leave because of it, I'll be ok with that, but I am a still a bit anxious about telling her. I still haven't totally decided if I should wait, or wait for the obvious to happen. We actually met on a dating site where I wore a dew rag or a hat. Until we met, I don't think she new I had hair. What do you guys think? Is it really an issue for women? Does it matter what they think? Should I tell her before she moves in? I never really thought about it until we discussed living together. This might just turn out to be another short term relationship; who knows? I really would like to wait until I can trust her. I mean, nobody knows in this town. I always wore a ball cap to work, so nobody knew any different when I got the system, and took my hat off. Has anybody else had any experience in this area? I've only ever heard from guys who don't have steady girlfriends, so they have no need to disclose there hair system. But other than that "one" FWB relationship, I haven't really thought about this. BTW, I am 60 years old and I workout. I'm in great shape and I am into nutrition. I have been guessed at being late 40s to early 50s. She is almost 62 years old and also in great shape and looks young for her age. Age might make a difference to your answers. Also, anybody with wives that care when you got your system and wore it? Did your wife care, Jake? What did she think about your decision? I really want to wait until I can explain the difference between an old style "wig" and the new hair systems. Thanks in advance

If so, then let’s just leave women once we start noticing they wear make up or implants or whatever that’s faking their looks to look good 🤷🏻‍♂️ She should be happy we are trying to improve our appearance at all and not get upset about it 😂 it’s like if men would get frustrated every time we’d find out how much make up she puts on or how many body implants she’s had done hah

Robert Glover says "get to rejection as quickly as possible". My Interpretation is that if you think she might have LTR potential, keep throwing truths at her about your opinions and who you are. The sooner you find something she cannot handle about you, the better.

@@MarkHadleyUK We've been together for 1 1/2 years now. She really doesn't care one way or the other. I think she likes the hair better than the bald head, though. Women really don't care much about whether you have hair or not. I guess it might help in the initial stages, but not once things get going. I've made a lot of improvements to my life. As painful as divorce was for me, and as painful as it was to lose somebody that I loved so much, I've made some positive changes in my life. I'm in my best shape ever, I started testosterone therapy, which gives me energy to succeed, and I am very profitable at day trading, so retirement is just around the corner. Life is just beginning.
