I Can't Believe Dad DESTROYED It...

Day 2 of planting with the new John Deere 1775NT Exact Emerge planter with the Exact Shot fertilizer system on it. Dad ran into something with the tractor steps and bent the living heck out of them. No big deal, but hey, it made a fun video title!? Anyone else agree?! Is anybody listening to me in the description?! Anyway, the fields were still a bit damp, so we went with a slow start. Did some tillage, some rock picking, etc. All in good fun! So far, the planter has been working GREAT!

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

What struck me was the conversation you and your dad were having as you were working on the planter adjustments. He mentioned that he hoped Onyx was doing okay with tillage and you commented that if anything happened he would handle it better than most adults to which your dad immediately agreed. Seems like Onyx has really earned the respect of you and your dad when it comes to taking responsibility for the operation of some very expensive equipment.

When you talked about fuel coming i had a wry smile, i recall the time when our farm ran out of diesel. Four tractors were waiting to fill up before we could go muck spreading miles away. The fuel came, we filled up and went. We got to the field and shortly after every tractor came to a stop with fuel issues, one after another over about twenty minutes.yes you are right, all the muck and sediment in the tank on the farm went into suspension and then went into the tractor fuel tank. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. This was about thirty years ago, we had steel holding tanks on the farm then.

It’s very interesting to hear about the new ways fertilizer is being applied and only needing 1/3rd needed to grow the same crops, but my biggest fear to that is once farmers start using 1/3rd needed the fert. Company’s are going to triple their prices if not quadruple the price, making all farmers upgrade to all new equipment or they are going to pack it in and either rent their land out or sell it all together

I appreciate the information on how the planter works and the dosage of fertilizer. The autonomous aspect of the tractor and planter is a real efficient aspect of today's farming. Contrast that approach with using a two row planter with only a drop feature common in the 1950s. I watch your farming practices to learn the new tools and processes. Farming today is intriguing to me. Thanks for the video and the narrative.

Get the bigger rugs that you use in the bathroom and put it in the cab of your tractor that way you can just shake it out when it gets dirty. Plus it is absolutely great on keeping your legs from getting tired. You'll love it.

Unfolding the planter is almost as exciting as Brian Brown's "Poo-werrr ladder..." So Onyx is doing driver Ed... I bet it would be like when my sister did behind the wheel driver ed in high school. The instructor lived across the road from one of our fields, her first day out, he said, I know you can drive, I have seen you driving the tractor and the truck around the field. let's go into town and pick up my dry cleaning..."

Myself and my brothers worked on a farm and were driving at 12 or so. The farmer gave us the keys to the farm truck and said - go grab them crates or whatever back at the shop - we of course would say ok and figure out how to drive. When we had to do drivers ed we paralell park perfect on the first day, etc. Then he had us doing errands as well for the rest of the mandatory time - haha.

I think so - haha. whatever brand you choose to go with, they got ya roped in with the batteries. I went with Milwaukee 18 system and you really have no choice but to stick with M18 tools. Brother went with Dewalt D18 system and every new tool has to fit the D18 batteries. They got us - darn it.

@@michaelbastien958 I like the Dewalt small impact driver and circular saw a little better than my milwaukee, everything else I like the milwaukee. I like mikita saws as well. Funny, if there is an outlet available, the old Skill metal housing worm drive comes out (heavy bugger, but cuts like butter) , still my favorite, don't make em like they used to - haha. Pretty much any corded circular saw I prefer to use if I can. Batteries tools are nice though. It doesn't matter - it comes down to the sledge hammer - ahh - let the finish carpenters fix that - haha.
