Hey guys! Sorry I left this info out. So far I’ve used this boat 2 evenings back to back fishing trips without recharging the batteries and still ran strong! Take in consideration I don’t run the outboard much. Only spot to spot.

If no wood what are you using for ballast weight, there is a reason fiberglass boat companies use wood and why some large ships use concrete, or iron. On a lightweight boat like yours does it get affected by wind drift? Ballast is used for more than just to keep it upright its also used to give the boat itself a little heft. Does yours float out of control when there is wind or any kind of swell, I'd be Interested in all of that info as well, as I might build my own.

  • @N2theBlue1

Planing hulls don’t need ballast. Weight is generally the enemy in a planing hull, with designers and builders constantly seeking ways to reduce weight. Particularly on flat bottom boats like this. Many saltwater targeted boat companies don’t have any wood in their fiberglass boats - it’s a major selling point to be wood free. I was shocked when I found out bass boats have wood in them because freshwater and wood are a bad combination that leads to rot. There’s really no need to use wood at all in fiberglass boats anymore with the availability of foam coring materials like divinycell and coosa.

@@N2theBlue1 do you get wind drift when it's super windy? It seams to light weight, I mean yes you cargo under the deck acts as ballast if it's balanced evenly, but it looks to high centerd, what I'm asking is boat's will float away from the anchor point and it's normally a slow drift, have you compared the drift to other non electric boats and timed it, as light weight boats should drift away from the anchor faster and it seams like it might be to fast near a current. Maybe a test is in order in the future. Keep up the great content.

@@the.unhappy.mechanic it’s a Jon boat. This whole project is custom and specific. Your basically taking a row boat and turning it into a mini bass boat. The point is to be light but stable. If I need to put it in a truck bed I can. If it’s windy enough to blow me off the lake I’m probably not fishing that day anyway haha also yes trolling motor solves other issues of wind

Hahah agreed, but that’s why I didn’t price it at that. for $1,073 you can have a fully built/wrapped Jon boat with a trolling motor up front. Which is all you need IMO. I’m not taking this 12ft boat on BIG lakes. Mainly small body’s of water. I just had the oppurtunity to do this so I went for it. Thanks for the view!
