I Built a Working LEGO Launch Rollercoaster!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I built a working LEGO launch rollercoaster using LEGO Technic!
The launch system utilises 12 large power functions motors and achieves a theoretical launch speed of almost 10mph without load.
The system is geared up to a 1:5 ratio giving a maximum rpm of 1,950 at the drive sprocket. Gearing up in LEGO Technic is difficult due to the relatively low torque of the motors so any increase in speed is met with difficulty in moving any form of weight.
I built a custom rollercoaster vehicle with traditional running, side-friction and up-stop wheel layout.
The ride capacity is 20 LEGO people per car.
The biggest challenge with this build was generating enough kinetic energy to climb a moderate hill in the track layout.
The track layout utilised over 1,200 5x3 LEGO Technic lift arm pieces creating a custom type of track compatible with the ride vehicle with central dropped supports.
I hope to do a second part of this video with a more comprehensive overall layout in the future.

Should use a flywheel to pre-stage the torque, then use a clutch to dump it onto the launch, will be a lot more efficent.

This guy has found the place where all the lost Lego pieces go and is using it as a high-efficiency farm. Seriously, if I had anywhere near that many pieces, I would have probably upgraded the world's power grid by now.

This is very cool! I like the realism and similarities to a real roller coaster, for example the side friction and up-stop wheels to keep the car on the track. I once made something similar but with a hand operated winch to lift the car to the top of the slope and then release it. I also had up-stop and side friction wheels on the car but they were fixed and not able to rotate as with your one, so this gave me some inspiration to try something like that in the future 😀

I made a GBC ball launcher with two PF motors and showed it to a mate and he advised me that the ball speed was to fast and that I had to slow it down. Yeah right lol. Brilliant video. Hello, I think it's really cool that you put so much time, money and probably money into your videos, especially on a not that big channel, but I think you would get even faster speeds on your coaster if you placing your puck in front of it would connect to your coaster because then the chain would have a higher swing, but all in all an incredibly exciting and educational project. I hope you come up with more ideas like this

I think there would be a much more sudden and efficient acceleration with a hydraulic launch. You should also try trimming weight off of the car to improve the performance.

Great video, am very curious how this would have compared to half as many motors but having a really big flywheel. Could spin it up very fast over a period of time. Have the launch puch pre-enganged with the cart, then use a clutch to engage. Curiuos if the punch of the flywheel will give more energy then all those motors revving up from stall.
