I Built a MEDIEVAL Joust In LEGO!

Ойын-сауық

I built a joust scene just in time for the LEGO medieval town square (10332) set's release.

I agree about the impact of parts limitations. You often are forced into more creative solutions because of those limitations.

You are far from amateur! This looks great. I like the minimalism, this is totally something you could simply place between builds or display nicely on a shelf. Well done.

The grill helmet was historically designed for equestrian sword fights in tournaments. They would use blunt wooden swords, more points were awarded if you broke the sword on a strike. ⚔️

It looks really cool! What I like about your custom figures and mocs in general is that you put a lot of attention into detail rather than scale, characters rather than having as many figures as possible. Your character videos are actually very inspirational to me! I think its important to make included elements feel purposeful in a moc. I understand that when people build very large scale they dont always have the time and resources to do that, but I'd rather make small and posposeful builds that feel immersive than waste a lot of money on a huge landscape that feel copy pasted and unfinished. Not to mention the storage space, cleaning and sorting... This statement could be made about design, game design or model creation in general, but I wont make this comment longer than it already is.

Looks great! If you want to expand the tournament grounds to make it more complete, here are a few options: 1 - Add additional knights, both from other factions (or even more than one from the same faction, but preferably with different kit to distinguish them), as well as a challenge board (a display with a shield from each knight which the challenger can smack with his lance to show who he wants to challenge) or a score board (a display with a shield from each knight which starts as a ground-level bracket of everyone but has each victor increase one level, until you get to the final two). 2 - Vendors and public viewing stands. The stands can be pretty basic, since they're for the unwashed masses. Maybe include a musician or jester for "half time entertainment" stuff. Throw in a pretzel, chicken leg, or sausage vendor (or more than one), and somebody with drinks on offer. If you want to push this concept, add a "kids section" area for peasant children to "joust" with toy lances and stick horses. 3 - Additional competitions. Add an archery range with two or three targets, and maybe have a forestman, a random peasant (probably secretly a poacher), and a couple military archers from one or another of your major factions. Build a little quarterstaff arena, for which I like the idea of a mud pit with a plank crossing it, for the competitors to try to knock one another into the mud. Toss in a large, fenced-in area for a grand melee where champions can lead a handful of basic soldiers into mock combat (perfect for "accidents" against social or political rivals). 4 - A band stand, with drums, wind instruments, strings, and whatever else you either have or can build. Even better if you can include a small stage for morality plays or punch-and-judy puppet shows. A final consideration for anyone who's jousting, you might consider using helmets that explicitly protect the lower face, or adding supplemental armor that would function like a gorget. The idea would be that, if a lance splinters, you don't want its sharp, pointy bits flying or skipping up into the throat. I wish Lego made Sallet and Bevor accessories, but you might be able to get reasonably close with bandanas or face masks of one kind or another. It might also be a decent opportunity for a Knight of Ren helmet, which generally include pretty heavy face protection. The grill helmets would likely be better for people in the Grand Melee or duels rather than lance jousts. They'd be great against sword or other direct weapon blows, but a lance would go straight through (even more splinters would go right into the face when a lance breaks).

Lego should make smaller sets with a higher 'resolution' or attention to detail. When thinking back to what I liked as a kid, it was always the sets that felt more complex and detailed that I loved, regardless of size, so I think that kids and adults alike would be able to appreciate if mocs like these were sets.

Plastic Black Raven barding all the way. I don't know why Bluedragonbricks decided to make their Raven barding on a white base instead of black, the edges look very bad because of this. The Black Falcon barding looks ok-ish because of the white part but the Black Raven just looks like it had years of playwear on it.

@@RalphPLFYI you can get a multi-pack of colored sharpies at the Dollar tree which Will do a decent job of color matching if you want to color in the edges. It will not be perfect but it will definitely be less noticeable than white against black.

I wonder how this set fits into the lore, are the crown knights neutral?👀. Build is also fantastic!, simple and easy to replicate!, tents surprised me with how good they looked that I may have to make my own!, the flowers also added some nice colour to the dancing which I do think it needed, overall this turned out great and you should be proud!. Have a great day man!😁

In person the Ali express horse boarding’s colour match is one for one I can’t tell if it’s off by just looking at it, if the cloth barding was double sided I’d like it more but there’s just a bit too much white visible although the graphic design on the cloth looks better. The plastic barding is great if you wanna stick to the Lego aesthetic as much as possible the quality of the plastic is as good as Lego and same with the print and colour of the actual barding. Although I do like these cloth barding the flags are definitely the stand out there

I actually got curious on the bardings from Temu so ordered a raven and black falcon to test, they’re actually really good and until close inspection realistically you wouldn’t notice the difference, however upon inspection the ravens/falcons are the wrong way around on one side (small detail) the plastic again is slightly shinier (a little bit the same as Funwhole sets) but on the whole, for £2 each UK, you can’t complain if you want to make a horse unit, they even come with head armour to boot!

I like that the black falcon knight has an eyepatch because those helmets would allow splintered wood from the lances right into the eyes. Also I would give them more heavy duty armor than chanimail because it would hurt pretty bad and probably shatter a few ribs to get hit by a lance like that with just chainmail
