________________________________________________________________________________________________
Space Engineers is a voxel-based sandbox game set in space and on planets, developed and published by Czech independent developer Keen Software House. In 2013, the initial developmental release of the game joined the Steam early access program. During the following years of active development, Space Engineers sold over one million units. In total as of 2019 the game has sold over 3.5 million copies In May 2015, for approximately a year and a half, the game's source code was officially available and maintained by KSH to assist the modding community. On December 15, 2016, the game entered Beta and was later officially released on February 28, 2019.
The game is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses, pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive.

If you set up the turret controller so it only activates the beam when it’s looking at the target and placed them all over a ship you could fly by a carrier in battle and freeze its ships In its hanger! Alternatively you could build missiles that target small grids so when you deploy them they track fighters or other ships and disable them.

This is a bug that could become a feature! Tractor beams? Force fields that you can shape? This is sci-fi as heck!! The best part is that it's kinda balanced, you only can use it on small grids, it can protect you, but it's not 100% effective, the only thing that could be broken and should be "nerfed" is it's tractor beam, as there's no chance for the small grid to escape

Actually... when designing some time ago an anti missile turret using the dummies projection I discovered a few things. One of them is that, if u are using a camera to home a custom turret and it targets the engineer. The middle of the projection will always be where the player is, blocking him from passing through. Issue is that it looks like, if u are using a camera for homing, it wont lock on targets that the camera couldn't have visual contact

i would probably use it to launch a warhead at someone, with this on the end. since sensors dont always work in proximity to a ship so it cant set off the warhead right as it collides. since warheads do a lot more when manually set off then through crash damage. i would use this on the end to protect the missle from being destroyed on impact, and have a timer that would set off the warhead as its just sitting against the enemy ship.

There's something satisfying about the railgun, which is disappointing for how powerful it looks (at least from my experience after being shot by a railgun, ships just don't care and destroy you because your main weapon has a 1 minute cooldown), being the only weapon that ignores this otherwise nearly impenetrable armor. If we ignore the clang and surround an entire ship in perfect dummy armor, it'd in theory be immune to all damage. But then, the railgun just takes out some of the hundreds of projectors that are everywhere around the ship, and suddenly an entire section of the ship becomes exposed. The Railgun would be a proper armor-piercing weapon that knows no equal. Except a large grid drill cannon, probably.

It is really Effective. I haven't tested yet as a Projection, but it would behave like the Real dummy for being Immortal against Bullets. So if you Cover your Entire Ship with Holograms of these Wall Dummies, your Ship Becomes almost invincible (Except another Large Grid is ramming yours) I told the Modder he should try to make a Large Oval Shield as a Dummy Body and make it Large enough to cover a Frigate or Cruiser. This is really easy to exploit with only 2 or 3 projectors once you have the blueprint, just have the projectors on the same line, and use the offset so each is slightly overlapping the previous. Since these are 1x1 blocks, 3 sets should allow you to effectively cover an entire "face" with very little gaps Side note, as of the last patch, have you noticed some of the paint textures now break when you select a different texture? The easiest one I've found is the "hazard" paint. Was playing around with it earlier tonight and when I switched the paint texture to anything else, I got the low texture/LOD blurring until I switched the active texture back to hazard. Interesting. Wery interesting. Well. I'm not apposed to it tbh. It's weak enough that it kinda sucks but it adds a bonus and its costly enough that it's already balanced. The only question is how much lag does it do. If the lag is minimal then i would condone this similar to grav drives. Say if you made a ship and used 1000, or 5000 blocks on your projector to "shield your ship" that would add 1000, or 5000 pcu to the grid. So for servers with pcu limits you may have a shield but at a cost of pcu... It would reduce shots coming in but it would also block your own shots from getting out.... So turrets would be less effective with the shield up and for mounted weapons if you made a "shield" around your grid you would have to have gaps in the shield for shooting through. Honestly, this is the most balanced "shield" I've ever seen in space engineers, and it is far more balanced than any of the modded shields. A way to possibly improve the blocking power is to put the projector on a rotor and rotate a box-like-shield around the grid though it would block even more of your own shots and would need a bigger hole for shooting through. I think space engineers should keep this kind of mechanic for a shield and tractor beam update but maybe support it officially with a dedicated block and improve the interactions or something...

"There are versions of this you can build that give you complete invulnerability to damage." You can place a projection inside another projection, can't you? That would be the way to get it 100% dense. [edit:] then again, projections usually don't have collisions.... Also, does it do damage if you whack players and small grid ships with this? Turret controller turret; on top of that a hinge set to a 25 degree angle; on top of that a rotor which spins a projector that projects a 25° cone of target dummies.

Could you use the turret controller, rotor and hinge etc to angle the shield towards enemy craft automatically? That way you would only need to project a small number of condensed blocksnd they would always be in the way? I cant believe that this exploit single handedly bring shields and tractor beams its madness

Build a 50x50 grid of dummies, and project it from a console block at 30% scale. At that scale, the gaps between the dummies are closed. The resulting shield will be large enough to protect a small grid fighter. Attach the console to the fighter using a rotor on the back, then move the projection forward to protect the front, giving you a near-impenetrable shield.
