revving up a 2-stroke like you are doing when it is cold is a brain dead thing to do... very easy for a ring to break since it has not heated up and expanded properly, meaning it is brittle and moving in and out of the exhaust port is looking for trouble.....

That looks like a Boyesen RAD valve. Nice upgrade over stock. 1989 last year of the single radiator. Always loved the look of those bikes. The air leak is more than likely your top end issue; it's causing the bike to run to lean(will also cause a high idle, I think that's why the idle dropped when you sprayed it, it stopped the air leak until it was all sucked through the crack). Don't forget to put on the two vent hoses on the top side of the carb.

Cleaning the filter box was easy.. Just wipe it enough to get the dirt/sand out and recoat it....doesn't take long... I could run one filter on our beach sand track when everyone was changing or cleaning their's ( i had spares ready too - cleaned and oiled in plastic zip lock bags if needed of course ) .

when you first fired up the bike, she sounded like she's idling high to begin with. then when you found the boot, i was like, "ahh, that might be an issue."

Great trick to check a piston if your not taking it apart is by sticking your phone in there and take a flash on video while you push it over by hand 👍🏼

Could anyone help me? I have a 4 stroke carbed 125 and just recently the revs have started to stick when I'm riding randomly and it's definitely not the throttle or throttle cable because I've lubed it all and it still does it with the throttle completely closed. The only way to get it to stop is when I blip the throttle or turn it off
