I have this lens, and it's a great lens, though I feel like lately I've found it to be a little soft at times, especially in lower light. I would love to see a comparison video between it and the Sigma 18-50 and the Fuji 16-55! Great video!

Bought the lens for my X-Pro3 for travel and love it. You forget the lens (changes) and just do your photography. f 2.8, Zoom range, IS, it's just there in one lens. Quality is outstanding in nearly every situation. I also carry the Fujinon 23/2 if I want a smaller package, but never used it so far.

I have this lens and really like it. I know it's a large lens for the Fuji system, but it's very light weight. My only nitpick with this lens is the lack of an aperture ring. When I travel I take this lens and the 70-300 with the Xt5. Both lenses also share the same filter size.

I had this lens when I was still using my sony a6400 and for me, yes it's bulky but it's not so heavy and you can stand with it all day in your neck. Comparing it with the Sigma trios, 16mm, 30mm, 56mm, yes the sigma is sharper but I prefer the colors more on the Tamron 17-70mm. I partnered it with the Sigma 56mm as it sharp and just small of a lens.

I use this lens along with the xf 70-300 and the Viltrox 13mm for travel/adventure/landscape. The focal range is great for getting a closeup and then quickly also getting a wide of a subject. It's a little too conspicuous for street and social settings (or in places where "professional" photography isn't allowed), so I stick with primes or the sigma 18-50 at those times.

Finally ;) but be aware it is sucking dust into even laying down on the shelf;) but for me warranty covered this. I hope that they will make G2 version. VC in my experience in video panning isn’t great on Fuji but this is probably Fuji problem not Tamron because on Sony APS-C I heard only good things.

Looked at this for a while when also considering the XF16-55. After renting the latter I decided I didn't need/want a standard zoom (I have too many lenses as it is...). I hope this is good though, competition encourages innovation. It's a different lens, but I briefly owned the Tamron 11-20mm before selling it. On the X-T5 I found it soft at the wide end and that it had bad fringing throughout. I replaced it with the tiny Sigma 10-18mm, which blows it out of the water in every regard. Maybe mine was a bad copy, who knows. Choice is good.

I like the options we are getting, both Sigma and Tamron are really making it hard to pay the extra $$$ for the Fuji lenses. My college loves his Tamron 18-300 on an X-T5, I'd never buy a wide - normal to mid telephoto as that is prime territory for me. But it is always good to see the options we are getting. Sure I read somewhere that Tamron patented a 18-500 APSC design... now that is a lens I'd like to see.

Thought it could replace my XF16-55 on the X-H2, but I ended up being really disappointed with the 17-70. Heavy chromatic aberrations and really soft in the center at most focal lengths unless you step it down to 5.6 or higher. I personally found it not to be suitable for the 40 MP sensor. I have this lens and X-T3. I can say, that after 50mm af-c mode makes 50-70% of blurry images. Cant shoot my kids. Only at 17-35 mm. This lens only for static and low dynamic scenes. It has perfect quality and sharpness. AF correct 95% only in af-s mode.

  • @matt88169

Crank the shutter 1/500 or faster and shut off OIS. Shut off exposure WB/preview in manual mode. Try af single point, and manually place the box Instead of relying on tracking. Might help trying to shoot the kids. I use af-c mode 2 or 4 the most lately seems to work. Lots of lenses slow down a bit in their telephoto range so also try high speed burst that also seems to get me more keepers typically if the initial lock is good. Also don’t hold down af-c, keep forcing the camera to re-acquire every few moments. This helps whether on my XT3 or a D850. If all else fails, switch to Son* lol.

A bit of a honker on the X-T5, Tongue, but doable, especially for a great lens. Even if it does look more balanced on my friend's X-H1 (he uses that rig professionally, and size helps there too 😏; customer perception) I went for the Sigma 18-50mm. Because it's tiny for a 2.8 and because it focuses stupid(ly) close, and I love that on any lens. But it's not quite a replacement, of course. Rock on, dude!
