James, as you say, golf is to be enjoyed. Doesn't matter what sticks you have....walking in the fresh air and hitting some good shots with your pals is priceless

I think on a "Dollar per Yard" basis the cheap driver wins big time!

My golf buddies have said for ages now that golf is getting far too expensive....it's great that RAM are still producing these golf items. Now much can be said of VICE and PEARL for golf balls. Trying to keep the price of golf down to intice new players 👍👍good one james lad

Seeing beginner testing would be phenomenal. It shows just how forgiving equipment really is.

I bought a Ram driver new for $40can about 10 years ago. It did have a graphite shaft (reg flex). I decided to get the shaft replaced with an x-stiff to suit my 108mph swing speed. I was ridiculously impressed! I played that driver for 8 years, and I still keep it in my bag as a backup since I'm so comfortable with it.

Nice video, The Amazon Ram has 85% of the performance for 5% of the price. This is why I buy "name brand" second hand clubs. I can get yesteryear's performance (which in most cases is 95% or closer of the brand names new equipment) for 25% of the new equipment price.

% of performance for % of cost is the perfect metric. Totally agree, a few year old stick is the way to go

I'm also a fan of used clubs. My M2driver, when I bought it, was a demo club, and being left handed had had very little use. It cost me £60.

Bottom line; The biggest difference is likely shaft materials. The material of the head factors, sure. The length of shaft, yes. But this is a stepped steel versus a top of the line tapered graphite shaft, likely spine aligned.

James, I have only been playing a year and I purchased a Benross Hot Speed 2, 9.5 degree loft never been hit off of ebay for £35.00 delivered. Graphite shaft and I have managed to get a carry of approximately 230yrds with the occasional 250yrd carry. Admittedly at the moment I'm not always hitting it straight but for me at the moment it is perfect, I think one of the reasons why people don't take up golf is the price of equipment, my 1st set was £40 of FB market place, once I knew I loved the game I got fitted for some Irons as at 6ft 6" I struggled with the standard size set of Wilson deep reds and sold the original set for £40 On Fb so got my money back. Slowly I'm adding to my bag but can at least get out and have fun.

Just this year... a Taylormade R7 Draw driver, from around 2006...not a mark on it, absolutely new condition, even the grip was perfect. Found it in a barrel at a flea market... $3 (yup, I meant three dollars).

I will say that is the most I have seen you sweat on an indoor test...lol! You make up for the price in effort in your swing! Great work James. Keep bringing the great content.

Friend won a Cobra F9 Driver in a raffle. Took it to the range and hit 10 balls. Didn't like it so I bought it for £150

Full junior set of cougar golf clubs when I was 10. Came with a 440cc driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 hybrid, 4-pw, a putter and a bag for 149.99. They weren't that great of clubs. But they were the first new set I'd clubs I ever had and it really got me playing alot more golf than I did when I started!

RAM Zebra mallet putter was a legend. Nick Price won majors with that

I spent 26 years of my life thinking that golfing was boring until I moved from Punta Cana to Albuquerque New Mexico and a friend took my golfing, im addicted now, soooooo much fun, yesterday just bought the ITourEdge 370 13 parts golf set, hoping to become a decent player soon and when I go back to my country play in those lovely courses. Full set of Ping Black dot with driver and 2 hybrids....and Titleist Putter for $125 US. Felt good about it.

I think the best option is to buy the previous year’s models when their price is approximately halved.

Yeah but they are still “not budget”. Full set of iron even last year model can cost here around 500$ for the best brand. Maybe buying older model second hand will cost 350$ but you will have awesome set.

Picked up a Second Hand Odyssey 2 Ball Blade Putter for $6 (AUD)

For a newbie and just wants to go up and just hit a ball.... this is just ideal. PERFORMANCE is still decent for £25. Most golf clubs and golf manufacturers are pricing out newbies and people that just want to hit a ball. I would like to see lake balls pearl grade Vs new balls. Would love to see if there is any difference

I would like to see you test some Tour Edge equipment. The Hot Launch 4 Irons are set to be released on August 1. I think a great comparison test would be those irons vs the Taylormade M6’s or Callaway Rougues. They will retail around $425 US dollars for 4-PW,AW.

I play tour edge irons and woods I love their woods there irons to me lack feel and for my game they're not the best but ppl that want to get it in the air and git it long it's great for them

I think your broader fan base is probably higher handicap players, your average joes. I love your on course lessons and they actually have helped me. I started last August and I'm already down to an 18.5 hcp. Also if you could find an average Joe and help him like you did Spriggsy that would be cool too.

I'm new to the game and buying equipment for the first time. My instructor advised me to avoid temptation and not buy brand new equipment until I was more experienced and willing to pay to get fitted (I'm 6'5" tall). He told me to do my homework and buy used gear. In the beginning, I was tempted to just get something like a Callaway Strata set, but I know myself and knew I would want something else pretty quickly. Like others have said, the used golf equipment market is huge and bargains abound. After careful research and reading a ton of product reviews, I got a set of Ping G10 4-SW irons (older but literally like new, with the correct lie angle and shaft length according to the Ping chart), Ping G10 3 wood and hybrid, an Odyssey putter, and a 2017 M2 Driver. Everything except the hybrid was practically unused and I got it all for less than $550 US dollars. The driver and putter were about $100 each and I definitely could have found good stuff for less than that. If I had more patience, I could have saved even more, but I was chomping at the bit to stop using borrowed equipment. They were all individual purchases and I actually enjoyed doing the research and the thrill of the hunt. There are some great used equipment sellers in the US and I got a couple items on eBay. Once I get more experience, I see myself pulling the trigger for a full fitting, but for now I have a decent quality set of clubs that suit my needs. Most of my golf dollars at this point are going toward lessons every week, which is going to help my game much more than state of the art equipment.

Honestly I want see a putter version of this.

Callaway steelhead iii 5 wood from ebay. Cost me £6 + p&p. Love it. Great for 2nd shots on par 5s or long par 4s.

Used to use a RAM before I got my M1, such a solid club!

This is quite a few years ago when Hybrids were relatively new. I couldn't hit my 3 iron (my driving iron) and I had a tournament the morning after. A friend of mine told me I should replace it with a hybrid. I did. 18 years later, it's STILL IN MY BAG. It's a RAM 18° and I hit it long and straight with more than 90% of my shots. It cost next to nothing and it has become the longest-serving club in my bag along with my reliable old two-ball.

I started playing golf 1985. I begun with a cheap set of clubs, and a Fazer blade putter for £10. The irons and the persimmon woods is since long renewed. But I still have my first putter in duty. Never found another putter that do the job as I want. Among my clubs is also a Wilson DeepRed II FW7 21dg. New but 10 years old I found in an outlet for £15. Perfect as a replacement for an expensive rescue/hybrid.

I got my set of 718 AP1s brand new for $450 on Craigslist. The guy had won three sets of them in Kenny Perry's golf tournament. He had nothing to lose on the sale.

Good video James I bought a brand new Benross Evolutionr driver last year for about £180 and when I hit it well I can get about 250 yds which I sometimes achieved with my last titleist driver, so you don't have to spend big money to get similar results

Does not matter what you use it's how you use it I use a $10 driver that out drives my Callaway by a ton

Best deal I got was Titleist 710 cb 5-pw in really good condition for $55 on eBay

Get practicing and back out playing - and spend money on lessons, before looking at a higher end fitted set. Got a new RAM golf club set today. Not a great golfer so I don't need an expensive set. Bad heart so won't be booming anything anyway. Great set to just plink around with for me. Got a Ping driver to go with the set just to make sure I can boom (some) LOL. Great vid.

This test has been done at least twice on youtube. What is almost never done is a test with an average or below average swing speed.

Best bargain ever, Maltby irons. I would love to see you compare Maltby irons to the leading brands. I think they are a massive value.

I got an ex demo (but not used as left hand) Stealhead XR 4 Hybrid. £40 price tag, took it to the till and it was actually £29! Bargain and brand new.

Could you do a video on cheapest range finder. See if the distances are similar and how easy it is to use.

Would like to see you test some cheaper wedges as the premium brands are now £120 each!

I think you are better off with a used driver from an established manufacturer. Even if it is ten years old, it probably will do better than this. I became a member at a second golf club this year, and since I did not want to have to drag my bag back and forth, I decided to put together a small carry bag with older clubs for the second course. I did not have a spare driver lying around, so I bought an old King Cobra SZ driver on ebay for 5 €. Now, it is a tiny bit shorter than my Cobra FlyZ (which is what I play in my normal bag ... bought a few years back brand new but as the next model was coming out ... paid 100 € for it), but it comes in a high quality lightweight ladies' shaft and it is so much fun to hit. When you middle it, It is the loudest driver I know. And it has a lot of offset, which allows me to take the right side of the holes out of the equation and just rip it. You really don't need to spend 500 € on a driver, no matter what Taylormade, Callaway and PXG are trying to tell you. But getting something of higher quality second hand is probably getting you further than buying cheap new crap.

I remember using a ram 3 wood when they where still made from wood loved it I think I still have it in storage

Cobra hs9 driver was used once in a demo and scored for $200 vs $400-450. Still use today and haven’t found a drive me that beats it for distance.

I usually go to clubhouse golf and get the deals from two years ago 👍

started playing with a set of JJB specials(Mitsushiba). Clubs, bag and shoes for £200. been hooked ever since.

I usually play a Cobra Bio-cell I picked up used for $99 - I love it - but recently I was looking at Powerbilt clubs, because I played a set when I was MUCH younger, and I wanted to see what they were doing lately. They had a special on their XP7 Driver for $39. I played it first time out and hit more fairways than I ever have.

I am getting back into the game this year and my partner me bought that ram set (£200) so this was an interesting video. my driver has a stiff graphite shaft which I have never used before. any chance of a review of the irons?

You can buy a decent 2nd hand driver for £50. In terms of that Ram driver, why not try reshafting it to make it longer and see how it feels then? I'm very critical of paying over £100 for a club when people don't pay enough attention to investing in their short game as that is where you will take strokes off of your game. £25 for a driver is still a bargain.

First clubs I bought were through amazon. Set comprised of driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid, 4-pw, mallet putter. head cover for driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid. And bag. $149.99. Used them 2.5 years. Before upgrading to new clubs with club fitting.

James. Pair that Ram with the Nitro golf ball! As far as bargains, I had a Taylormade V Steel 5 wood in my bag for almost a decade. It had a UST Proforce shaft and was easily my go to club when I felt a little pressure creeping in out on the course! Best part. I paid $40 for the club and an extra $50 for the shaft (installation incl.) Bought in 2008 and just replaced it this year with an M2 (2017).

I got a Srixon Z756 used on Rock Bottom golf for $100. Absolutely love it!

i have been playing a set of Rams for about 5 years now and they have been the best budget clubs ive ever used.

My first set of golf clubs was a full set of Rams. It was giving to me by a co-worker whose son was no longer using them. I started playing golf for the first time 3 years ago and since then I have replace all my irons and drivers with Nike except my 3 wood. Its still a Ram. lol call me cheap.. but it keeps me from running out and spending few hundred bucks something I don't need right away.

If you go to sports direct you can get a slazenger driver for less than that one in graphite or in steel shaft.

Bought a brand new Callaway MacDaddy for £4 in Dubai where they had put the wrong price tag on. Was supposed to be £40 but still pretty chuffed with it. One of my best clubs ever

I started playing golf again 3 months ago at 63 after a 16 yr layoff. Bought myself a Ram Driver for $79 Aussie, Graphite shaft, fishing rod flex 😂😂. Chronic slice, just like i like apple pie, a REALLY big slice. So this morning i saw an M5 9deg Tensei Stiff shaft on Marketplace that was won by a fella and used for 9 holes , snapped it up for $300. Hopefully fix my slice a bit..

Test the Wilson Harmonized wedges, < $30.00 a piece.

I bough the c3i tele wedge and its just as good for me as the 300 $ wedges and better than the 30$ wedges on amazon. Ihave the lot of them.

the thing is its still 0nly 150 yds on average to the pin on the average par 4 par hole

My first set of irons and putter were RAM. Accubars and a Tom Watson golden RAM putter with a leather wrapped grip

Hi James a beginner or high handicap golfer would be more than happy with a straight 190 or 200 yard shot that ended up on the fairway. I recon that is £25 well spent. Your swing speed is so much faster than a beginner will generate with that club.

If I'm wanting to go to a driving range to get a feel of golf but don't want to spend loads what do I get. Thanks

Thought my Fg Tour f5 irons 5 to GW £70.00, then passed it with nearly new Cleveland 588 Altitude Graphite Shafted 5 to PW £100 sooo forgiving. You should review the Ram Golf Laser Hybrid Irons Set 4-SW £169 on the web.

Used to use ram clubs made some gr8 stuff in the 90’s then went down hill never heard from them again seems their still around😜

I’ve got back into golf this year after being invited on 2 golf breaks to Villamoura and Alicante. I used to play off 14 and had a set of Ping eyes. I bought a set of 8 Ram hybrid irons after reading a few reviews and I’ve found them to be pretty good and easy to use. £119 off Amazon. I wouldn’t compromise on the putter though. I’ve got a Taylormade Spider X and I’m putting better than I ever did with my Ping anser.

Bought ping s56 irons 4-PW and a 56 degree wedge all for 199$

I have a Ram 3 wood and love it.A lot of woods and rescues sold now have a draw bias which is fine if your a pro or you can play that way. I can,t so the more neutral set up suits me just fine.

My first driver was a Donnay Slammer (about 25 yrs ago) learning the game it did the job. As you get better, upgrade if you can 👍

i bought my first driver a intech 450 Ti from walmart $45 cdn broke the shaft in cpl months replaced with shaft for my speed an size an still play with it off an on. managed to get it too 300yds. used it till i got the Wilson cortex which i love.
