You are an awesome instructor! I love how you give great advice for average golfers. Thank you so much!
You ABSOLUTELY need to do more of this types of tests! More used equipment vs new, more cheap balls vs expensive, more old worn out wedges vs new (on course). You rule this category ( Euro club testers) keep it up!

This is a brilliant video! Totally agree with the ridiculous over pricing of current leading golf tech. £400+ for the leading drivers while you test one at £20 gives an indication of just how over priced the golf market is becoming.

These clubs are for the fun golfer, and I think it's brilliant that they are still around. Long live the budget clubs for people who dont care about brands, can't afford the big names, and just want some fun on a golf course. Being able to play the game is more important than being good at it, or having fancy sticks. Well done mate, great video. ATB MMMD
Welcome to our world. My driver was 7$ new ;) Still going strong after 3 yrs.
perfect review! i bought the same slazenger driver from Sports Direct a week ago and am yet to use it but now after seeing this video im going golf first thing tomorrow morning 😊😂
I'm brand new to golf. I got a second hand set of Ping i3 irons & wedges from Gumtree for £100, which also came with a TaylorMade Fairway Rescue 3 wood and 4 wood. I then went to Sports Direct and bought this exact driver for the same price, and a £10.99 putter. They'll do me just fine while I'm learning, and once I get a bit better, I might look at a better quality of club. Thanks for the video, enjoyed it.
You with a full set of slazenger clubs vs Pete with a full set if Dunlop! I'll even donate the Dunlops 😂 that would be a great video!

I’ve always had a slice since I was a kid. It’s funny though, every year after winter I have to go back out and practice to get of it. Like, the thing that fixed it last year no longer does the trick
Loved this random club test. Hope you do more tests just like this one or even tests on clubs 10 years old. Keep up the great content
I'm just finding this, but I really appreciate this type of video. My current clubs are a Wilson boxed-set, the whole thing totaled roughly $400 which means each individual club would cost about this much (when you factor in the bag & everything that came with it). Its nice to see how a club like this performs with you, and think of where I can go from here. My drive is slightly shorter than you're hitting this on most shots, but I've rung up to the 270-290 carry range a few times. Point is, I'm planning to get fitted this winter, and it gives me some hope for where I can get once I get some proper equipment.
Last drive was one of the best I've seen you hit :) put it in the bag!!!

Such an awesome video. Love to see more of this!!!
What a refreshing review and proves how important the golfer is compared to the equipment
This is what I like... reviewing clubs people are more likely to buy at first....
Good review Rick, thanks! I'm just getting the bug to play again after almost 20 years of NOT playing, which I did three times a week and got within a 10 handicap. So much has changed!! I'm now deciding whether I should hit up a used club site or get fitted for what may be my last set. That's what brought me to yours and Pete's (Finch) channel. Your reviews and fun times with friends is what keeps me coming back :)
My first set that I bought was for school. I choose golf as sport in college. It was the less expensive way to learn golf for me and we could borrow golf set but I wanted to have my own. So I bought myself at a garage sales an iron set for 2$ each, a putter for 10$ and I’d go to Walmart and bought my brand new 20$ drivers. That drivers was about the same quality as the Slazenger. And it last me one years or two. But for start, I recommend to buy this or a good second hand golf set. You can have a really good second hand set for about 150$-200$ with the bag, balls and if you are lucky a good pair of shoes. Never go for the brand new set except a Slazenger like at first. Put money in lessons and practice balls.
i sent you a commando ball a couple of years ago, do you still have it? would be good to see how it can handle a 110mph swing with the latest clubs.
Sports Direct smashing the bargains 😂
Great fun video Rick, I chuckled all the way through it... pity the graphite shaft was slightly over your £20 price range.
I'd be very happy to see more of these video's.
Love the fact that you downgrade a test on club. We all remember starting our sets of clubs at sports direct. 😂😂😂
Love this idea, strole in and buy something and try it.Some of my favouite clubs were bought this way....Oh and the least favoute too..
I bought that exact driver recently. Love it! It does its job (I never hit a different one though. Advantages of being a lefty)
Put the Slazenger in your bag!! Great video. Can you do more of these vlogs - maybe on a set of irons under £200 or less?
I would love seeing you vs. Finch playing battlegolf with low low budget clubs like that driver
My first driver was a very flimsy cheap one (Eagle Golf, if I remember the name correctly). Pete hit it a few times when I first came to Lytham for lessons. He tried to hit it over the fence at LGA (which did not happen). It had a graphite ladies shaft in it. I was so afraid he would break it, but it did survive. It did not go very far (I instantly gained 30 yards of distance when I finally bought my Cobra FlyZ), but it was a good driver to learn with, because the shaft was slightly shorter which gave me good control over the shots.
Wow what a great vlog - at first I thought you had gone to a second-hand shop rather than buying a new one. A mate of mine bought a similar sort of driver years ago and still plays pretty well with it; it still has the original grip as well. Hope you do more of these unusual type of club reviews; they are very eye opening as well as great entertainment. Cheers
Love this ..You need to do more like this
Love it 👍👍
Would be great if you went middle of the road in relation to price, so I suppose 2/3 year old clubs/driver
Great video Rick, more of these please 😃
The difference between 20 and 400 pounds is quite a bit more than "a little bit extra." I totally agree with others in wanting more reviews of middle price-point equipment. Keep up the good work!
Would love to see you playing a match whilst only being able to use clubs from that store. Now that would be great viewing rick

New to the channel. Love this video. Good to know that beginners (or those casual players) can still pick up a bargain and get round a course. Keep up the good work!
Hah - the pack of pro v1 balls were more expensive than the driver. I wonder how far you would hit Slazenger balls with this driver?

Haven't watched in a couple of months. Have you got a new camera??? Looks great
Lol when was the last time rick paid for a golf club :p
Yes Rick!!! Love it. These are the kind of tests that we need more of. Cant believe that last shot, and yeah of course when you pay £400+ for a driver you are just paying for the name, theres no way any component on it is worth £380 more than that driver you tested. "That" shop also do another Slazenger driver for like £60, with a decent Grafflaoy graphite shaft and a Lamkin grip, crazy cheap. Can you go back in and pickup one of the wedges (V500 or something like that), true temper shaft, lamkin grip, £24.99! Please test them!!!! And for the record the most ive spent on a club is £40 2nd hand, just cant justify the cost of top notch gear that doesn't really gain me anything.
@lizard3994

You are'nt just paying for a name and more quality components you are paying for the millions in R and D that company has put into getting their products as good as can be year after after year (depending on the companys club release cycle) let alone the cost of sponsorship etc, but l do agree that they can't be worth as much more as they are.

J Sparkes Agreed but what benefit does all that R n D actually bring to you, the club golfer.
@lizard3994

+Adam Stubbs Well that's a different debate really, l totally agree that clubs like this are ideal for beginners and people who want to try the sport out and thats the point l'm making. There are reasons why some clubs are more expensive than others, me as a club golfer definitely benefit from better quality clubs but that's just me.

So glad you did this video. It would be interesting to see how some of the box set irons perform. Do share the GC quad data just to compare with the big brands.
Rick, suggestion for your vlog: How "limited" are "limited flight" range balls? This quesiton affects most golfers. One of the main purposes of a driving range is to determine how far a person hits their various clubs on average so that when they play they have some idea about which club to choose for any given shot. However, most driving ranges (here in the USA, I assume elsewhere as well) use what are called "limited flight" range balls which do not fly as far as "real" golf balls such as the Pro V1s you typically use in your golf club tests. My question is, how much distance do you lose when using a range ball for each of your clubs so we can do the math and calculate the approximate performance of range balls vs. real balls.
@jamesharrison5004

Book a Trackman session to do your yardages. You can't tell where your ball lands out on the range.
@e99783
6 жыл бұрын
That’s a good suggestion but, renting a trackman every time you change your clubs or your swing or you come back from a break from golf is expensive and inconvenient for most people. The range may not be as accurate as a trackman but how did people determine their yardages before trackman was invented? The range.
@jamesharrison5004
6 жыл бұрын
Jeez how often were you doing any of that? A Trackman session is only £35. You can always do your yardages on the course.
@e99783
6 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't understand people like you. What do you have against simply letting the average golfer know the difference between range balls and real balls? Do you have some financial interest in preventing golf consumers from having this information? Perhaps you sell Trackman devices or you work for a company that sells golf balls. I can't imagine any other motive for you arguing this point.
@jamesharrison5004
6 жыл бұрын
All range balls are not the same. Golf is about accuracy and the only way to do it properly is with a decent launch monitor. Ok you could go in a field measure out 250y and mark every 10 yards back towards you, then work through your bag. I'd ranther just pay for a trackman session personally.
It's as if a million expensive drivers just cried out in horror...
1:47 when he said bad 😂😂
Great video Rick, very interesting & loving the sparkly paint job on that driver!! 👍🏼
Cheap drivers don't get sky marks they get sky dents lmao.
F U N !!!! Nice light hearted video. Shame Slazenger went from top of the world to bargain basement but shows people can spend less on a few clubs to get into golf than some of us would pay for 18 holes. Little half set and away you go 😁. PS won my national junior public golf title many moons ago playing a Slazenger balata that I still have in my display cabinet at home 👍

@grahameturner7415
6 жыл бұрын
ran doshus. Hi, having come back to golf after a long time away I tried loads of balls. For me feel wise the old balatas closest match today is something like the taylormade project a or the callaway chromesoft. Funnily enough I find these way too soft to play now on the course. If you have never cut the cover off an old wound ball and bounced it around you haven't lived just be prepared to clear up the mess 🤣
Rick, I think that you should retest the Scavenger after you have used your golf.pro skills and re-shafted it with a shift the more suits your standard, doesn't take to be expensive (I've had some good ones from eBay, Gamola and Hireko etc.)
Started playing with a Dunlop set Driver, 3w, 5w 3-pw bought for under $200. Used it for 5 years playing on a couple 9 hole evening leagues before finally upgrading. Nothing wrong with getting whatever you can afford to get you out on the course!
So it won't last 5 to 10 years from a guy who changes drivers twice a year
I have never bought a new driver. I think they are just too expensive.

Great Video! There's a population of golfers out there that can't play the high end equipment at the nicest of courses, but have a passion for the game all the same. Go out to your local family run/budget golf course, rent a set and film the experience.
No driver is worth 400- 500 dollars.
Great video , great direction . Buy a set of irons under 100 Bugs and test it :)
Awesome video!!! Bought some second hand taylor made rac irons and am looking at drivers now... Upgrading from starter powerbilt set.. This video was fun to watch!!
This was really fun watching. Like to see you on course with beginners set :)
This is neat! I've been wondering which used clubs to look at for a lower budget point.
Love to see this kind of review. I'm a pretty terrible golfer and am on a limited budget, i take great pride in the fact that everything in my bag (including the bag) was bought (S/H) for less than £150! John Letters T9+ Driver & 3W, Wilson Di7 & Irons and a Rife putter.
I took up golf after a 35 year break earlier this year. I had one of these drivers and used to hit it a fair old way at times. Summer time I swapped my clubs for Ping G425s. Generally, I'm straighter now, but certainly not any longer. Possibly even shorter. But I enjoy playing with the Pings more.
Great video, I would love to see you review a mid range box set like, a Wilson set or a strata box set
Great review, more of this type of review please.
This was such a great video!
Spot on with your summery. I inherited an ancient set of clubs and this was the first club I actualy bought to replace the wooden driver. Dose the job and cos of the cos I'm not afraid to try a little harder and make mistakes with it.
Great video, would love to see more of these for higher hanicapers or beginners to see what is best for their price range. Sometimes it goes to show it ain't always the equipment to blame. You hit it right yiu can work with anything if you know. I'd like to see you go round with some Dunlop Sport Tour Soft. I use them and feel I get so much more out of them than the more expensive balls (£10 for 24)
Bringing depth back to golf. It's not all about the most expensive - they're are lot of different approaches and choices to be had. Great vid!
Hi Rick, new to watching your channel, and lately I’ve been on a serious binge catching up on your stuff. I really enjoy your matter of fact approach and interesting topics, but also your appreciation of the entry level end of things, and how it compares to the bleeding edge; but wallet busting top end kit. Maybe it’s all in the craft not the gear...Great stuff, subscribed.💪🏼 🏌🏿♂️
would like to see more of these, like cheap irons to dear ones (really enjoying the reports keep them up)
Great vlog. Never seen a “butter fade” before that starts right and goes further right. My first driver was a ladies howson and I wore the grip down to the shaft. Not only embarrassing, the bright blue shaft drew attention from afar. I think I paid fifteen quid.
Great fun vlog rick ❤️😁
Definitely do more of these Rick
Great video! Do more like this!
I recently started learning golf and this is the one I bought. A good one to start with.
Rick mate , you need a bang for your buck driver test ie distance dispersion for the pound .Cheers
My current driver is a Cobra, Amp cell and I got it new 2 years ago for £60 as it was a discontinued model. Still smack it out 250-260 yards and love it. No need to spend the money at my handicap of +20. This works just fine!
That was great I wish you would do that with more cheap clubs meaning fairway woods and Cheap irons to show the difference in performance
Love the review Rick - great idea, and it shows that golf doesn’t have to be an expensive sport to get started with.
Literally just bought one of these earlier this afternoon, took it down the driving range and really enjoyed it. First time playing with a driver and it was an all round good experience, hit roughly 200yds ish and it felt decent. Did feel a little flimsy to me as well, but it’s 18 quid and does the job perfect for beating up while you learn to drive properly.
Great test and good explanations thank u Rick
i was actually smiling the whole way through this video! Awesome!
Just spent $200+ on an odessey o-works putter......have a titleist 910d2 driver but it was free from brother in law. Love the video, showed it to my wife to explain why I need thousands of dollars to be good at golf, lol. Keep up the good work!
