#dreamhome
After years of traveling for work, and living in the city, my small family has grown, and we have outgrown our small house, we decided to sell our house, and move north.
So many things fell into place in a matter of a couple months, and we were able to score our dream home, not just mine, but also my wife's dream home. I can now make many more videos in a closer timeframe without having to travel 6+ hours to even start my trip.
I posted a couple short clips on instagram and people really wanted a home tour, so I decided to do one.
Hopefully you enjoy this video, and I hope it holds you over until I can get out camping and make a proper long bushcraft camping video.
Thanks guys and girls

    Do yourself a favor and a do not hire Culligan. Trust me I have struggled with sulfur water. Hire a local company with a good reputation. Get chlorination injection with retention tank, a carbon filter tank to remove all the chlorine, then a water softener. In that order. You can put a reverse osmosis system at your kitchen sink faucet just to fine tune the water for drinking after that. You’ll be all set after that (but you may have to put a powered anode rod in your water heater). Do not mess around with hydrogen peroxide, or anything else. Save yourself the time and grief of your family being frustrated. I have had the system I just described in my house and my water has been consistently perfect. As a bonus, with Chlorine injection, you’ll never have to worry about bacteria I your water. Keep in mind, things change and bacteria could occur down the road after your test. Beautiful house and beautiful spot. Congratulations! Good luck.

    Ultra Dark Force you dont need chlorine injection. Chlorine disinfects only! If your bacteria levels are within standard you are wasting your time and money. RO is the surefire way to produce great water. Even with a water softener you need a "hard water tap" for drinking water as the salt used in a softener leads to other legit health issues in the long run.

  • @ultradarkforce5537

    @ultradarkforce5537

    5 жыл бұрын

    larrabeejohn6130 Incorrect. Chlorine is also an oxidizer. It is what most municipalities use. RO is a great way to go, but the hydrogen sulfide will clog up the RO filters quickly. Which will be frustrating and expensive in the long run replacing filters. RO is great as a final step “polishing” water. Not for a main workhorse for the household system. Better to oxidize it with chlorine in a retention tank, remove the chlorine with a backwash/carbon filter, then water softener, then RO system at the drinking faucet, I’ve got a basic sediment cartridge filter prior to all of this in my house and a carbon cartridge after the softener. You can get as crazy as you want, but the heart of the system and the “classic” effective way of doing this is chlorine. It works.

Sustainable yield. Species mix is fantastic! Worth your money to hire a forester to help make a plan. Don't cut out all the cedar please or otherwise make a monoculture out of it. Edit: A house out in the middle of no where is considerably cheaper then one this size in the city, the problem is finding a job, but you get to camp as a job so this house is great. Most people that own these woods/lake houses of this type dont get the luxury of living there year round, I envy him.

    hi Joe Robinet, i'm a huge fan and I watch your videos all the time but you need to read this comment. If you are thinking putting a hot tube on the your deck I would not be able to support the weight of it. You have to realize that a hot tub can way up to 5,500 pounds, or 2,500 kilograms. So if you want to have a hot tub you need to put a lot of supports underneath to so hold the weight of a hut tube. I hope you read this message. From A.J.

    Thank you Joe! I love your videos - they make me want to go out in the woods and build a shelter to sleep in overnight and a bonfire to cook my food. However: 1. I'm getting up there in age and arthritis has struck. In every joint. 2. If I were to sit on the ground, I would need a hoist to get myself up. 3. If I were to sleep on the ground, same thing. 4. If I were to build a raised log bed I would need the ER. 5. I think walking through the woods using my cane would make me unsteady. If I were to fall, see number 2. 6. If I went out in the snow and fell, see number 2. So you see, I will have to pretend I am with you and doing all the things you do. I am no longer of an age to do it in real life. But ya know what? If you can laugh at old age, then it cannot consume you! So I do what I can and enjoy it!

    Looking good Joe! One important thing however: railroad ties are most often treated with creosote and other hazardous chemicals which leach into the soil (and potentially groundwater) and accumulates in living organisms, so growing veggies in the beds lined with them isn't advisable. I'd recommend doing some research online and contacting your local environmental protection agency or other relevant authority to hear what precautions they advise. I really don't mean to cause an alarm or take away any joy of you getting your new home, just wishing the best for you and your family. Best regards - Rune

    We have had two beds for veggies surrounded by railroad ties for over 55 years... It might be bad to harvest and eat these vegetables in the first 2-5 years but after that time its totally harmless and all the chemicals are washed away. My grandma is 93 years old now and as healthy as possible although she has eaten our veggies since they bought our house. Don't panic, i'm sure everything will be allright, these railroad ties didn't look like they were freshly made

    You can always plant veggies in separate raised wooden boxes with drainage holes on the railroad tie steps. Use rich, fresh soil and drainage holes. The steps might make it easier to hoe weeds and care of the plants.

  • @RuneRexx

    @RuneRexx

    Railway ties are pressure treated, meaning the chemicals are quite evenly distributed in the wood and are being leached to their surroundings throughout their life-span. The rate of leaching will vary, as some of the chemical compounds may degrade over time, while others are being released continually due to weathering. At no point do they become harmless, which is why disposal of railway ties is regulated, regardless of their age. I'm very happy to hear that you and your grandmother are healthy, but anecdotal evidence like that doesn't prove anything - much like my great aunt who smoked cheroots every day of her adult life and lived to be nearly 100 doesn't prove that smoking is harmless. A number of the 200-250 different compounds in creosote are bioaccumulative and some are proved to, or suspected of being carcinogenic. While they may not be acutely toxic (though some are), they can build up in the organism over time and possibly increase the risk of certain kinds of cancer or other chronic illnesses. I'm not trying to be a fearmonger here, but with a basis in my education in Environmental Technology I definitely encourage making informed decisions on these kinds of matters.

    Hello Joe ... your home is awesome. I love all that wood. So easy to take care of and a whole lot cheaper than painting. You have a wonderful family ... and just saw the video when you lost Scout. I felt so bad for you. You should get a large picture made and hang it on your wall in that beautiful family room you will be building in basement. It will be a comfort and bring back wonderful memories for you. Then when you get another dog add his picture .. etc. just make sure you add his name and date on each picture. I enjoy all the videos you make with your neat shelters . When I was younger I loved to go camping. Your videos are are wholesome and fun. God Bless. A 77 year old Grandma from Ohio

    I've been watching your videos for EVER. And I just love how excited you get about things and about the big beautiful world and how excited you get to go out and be in survival mode. I'm 28 but it reminds me so much of my dad. Every time I go home to North Western Michigan (Arcadia area) my dad and are always in the woods doing stuff. Whether its hunting, mushroom hunting, looking at stuff, shooting. I love this because you always give me a little taste of home where my parents taught me most of this kind of thing to survive off the land. End rant. Lol

Very happy for all your little family. I absolutely love your video qualities, filming/editing/M&E as we use to call it in my film days are the best since you don't add any sound tracks, nature's sounds are the best....all is pretty much spot on! Top notch all over. Now I am not sure if I should go forward or backwards in time! Cheers

    What a truly huge amazing home, it is a dream home indeed. Your own woodland and a lake out the back. Your wife is beautiful too Joe you are blessed. You have such a thoughtful kind/strong energy about you. I wish you every happiness in your dream home. Sorry to want to take you away so soon but I have watched nearly all your video's. The 10 day survival programmes you made are my favourite, your knowledge about the trees and the environment you are in is delightful. Please take more than 10 items, lots of hot chocolate, the chewing beef ( I am an old english lady so I cannot remember the name of it ) plenty of food, a soft bed and warmer sleeping bag. Hope you can catch the walleye fish you wanted. The pike you caught had huge rows of teeth and you put your whole hand in its mouth. Aww I have watched it twice already. Sending you all positive vibes

    THIS IS A FUN VIDEO, TOO! You found a fine spot for your family and for your work. What a typical 'bushcraft KZreadr' needs is a 'studio' in the woods. That does not necessarily mean big acreage far from home. You can get as cold and wet and miserable in your new backyard or on the gravel by the lake as you ever could get driving seven hours!
