here in the uk we have CEX they make you wait an hour when u trade in a console, supposedly to test the devices, every single purchase i have made from them for over ten yrs! every single product has been faulty!!! they dont just waste ppls money but also their valuable time. i was in the other day spent an hour analysing every console they had on their shelves made a careful choice of a console that was in pretty good condition, pointed out the one i wanted and when i got home pulled it out of the box to see that they had lifted a banged up piece of crap filled with fluff from their back room. These companies are rip off merchants and very very dishonest, i made a customer complaint and the next time i was in the store when i got to the check out was informed my account had been banned!!!! they where so lucky I didn't just go and burn the place to the ground!!!!!

I think it entirely depends on the Store manager and their hiring standards.

How is it scalping if the game came out over a decade ago and new copies probably haven't been produced for close to 10 years? At this point it's simply high demand and low supply due to most copies being already in use, broken, lost, or collected, which is what's driving up the prices. No one can buy all the original stock and then resell it in a market where customer's are expecting to buy at MSRP and retailers are intending to sell at MSRP because that was in 2009.

Horrible deal. I ussually fine ps3s at pawnshops and thrift stores for $30-$50 and they are ussually slim. Not the big ones. Even if you look on Craigslist or facebook marketplace. You can find ps3s for $50-$60 with games ussually. And Nintendo Wiis you can find for like 20 bucks at any used electronic store.

When austin used the day one xbox, we saw his email on the screen, holy poop.

That ps3 has an NEC tokin capacitor issue. You know it's not the solder underneath either one of the main chips, cause it boots up fine. You know it's the capacitor because the second you got to take control of the game, it cut off. That was because one of the capacitor(s) is faulty and couldn't supply either the cpu or gpu with enough power in time since the psu was slow to respond only because something else needed a bunch of power.

I found a red one with a bunch of games for free and a ps3 in the attic of a house I bought. Now that I think of if maybe it was just a home warming gift haha

It’s insane how expensive a lot of these older consoles got since then

I'm always puzzled why anyone would choose to buy a console from gamestop when the return period and options for getting your money back are like none lol. From watching my old buddy buying game consoles there, I always opted for best buy or walmart to get my systems as they had a better exchange/return policy every time hands down....

not sure if anyone else caught on, but if Austin can fix that Fat PS3, that happens to be the model with backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games. Wanted to make the comment about it prior to 4:05 into the video when I seen the chrome trim instead of matte silver, but wanted to see the 4 usb ports on the front. So Austin, fix that PS3, you can probably flip it for $300 in today's market

I hate buying digital since it's a ripoff and gives no fealing of actually owning the game plus you can't sell it once your bored of it so the only time i go to gamestop for physicial games when I can't find a good deal online and gamestop is cheaper

GameStop may've got confused on which is slim models and which are fat models or the computer was wrong. I'm also certain that the one you received is the CECHExx model, the last model to play PS2 games and have four ports on the front.

@@markwheeler4245 That's what I thought of exactly. A family who is struggling to make ends meet but finds a way to buy an older console for $100. Kid opens it, pumped up, goes to play and its a dud. Not only does the kid feel instantly crappy but the parents are going to feel like absolute crap too.

The reason why the xbox one didn't work is that with old xboxs they had a problem with the disc drive where they would pull the disc in after it started to try and read the disc not allowing it to read entirely

Just shows how much game shops rip you off. Even in the UK, CEX really rips you off. It's mental how they sell them for over 3x the price. Car salesmen also do this.

They need to be sued for fraud and theft. Game stop is such a joke

it amazes me how a youtuber makes a video and doesn't get lucky on his used console purchases, that's what the warranty is for, but of course game stop is such terrible company right? lol. I have two consoles that I got from game stop and they're still going strong.

@@mrteal3070 Not the point its that the ps3 didn't even play games at all. Ive overhaul had good luck with them. But last thing I've got was a one s from GS and after the year warranty expired with literally 30 hours of use in that year it started making a whining noise.

I've purchased many items from game stop, still have them functioning till this day, and I've owned some for a decade already.

@@Superb_Legend well that's unfortunate but it happens, I've purchased brand new products (not from game stop btw) and have had issues with them, my point is that this shit happens all the time new or not, game stop is pretty much the only game store left and to shit all over them because some have had bad luck at some point doesn't make sense, it happens.

Moral of the video: "Never buy from gamestop" *I'm dead serious, not joking.

Open the ps3 up and blow the dust out if needed replace the thermal paste too. You can expect to do this for every 20GB and 80GB backwards compatible PS3.

"Refurbished" really just means they just make sure that the console can at least turn on. There's nothing beyond that, there's a pretty good video from this guy who refurbished "refurbished" consoles from GameStop and the big take away is that it seems like GameStop doesn't bother to even open and check the inside of the consoles. So usually with the new console is a nice amount of cigarette smoke in the fans.
