The bracket on the back side of the supercharger is a coil bracket like what they used on the 1994 to 1997 thunderbird or the 1996 to 1998 mustang GT. There should be another one for the other bank of the engine. But the engine would have 2 coil packs that run 4 individual spark plug wires each. They are cheaper to replace too compared single single plug coils packs.

Terry still runs a large aftermarket speed shop just outside Cincinnati OH. This car was featured on Inside Drag Racing/ESPN back in late 2000/early 2001. Was coverage from the NMRA race in Bowling Green. I made several passes in it when it had a Tremec 5 speed in it. Ran 10.80's then at our local track. I think that switch by the shifter might be for a lock-up converter. This video brings back so many memories. Fun to watch.

You had asked in the video what you could use in the cylinders to "Free Up" the pistons from the rust. I have had amazing success using a product called - ( Metal Rescue ). I have literally removed all the rust in old motorcycle gas tanks with Metal Rescue. It's almost like magic how the rust is just gone in a day or two of just having it in there. Give it a try if you guys have a day or two to let is sit in the cylinders and do it's thing. Fellow Gear head here 😃

Compression button on the deck reduces the overall dynamic range of a piece of audio by detecting when it exceeds a specified level, and then attenuating it by a specified amount. Put simply, it narrows the difference between the loudest and softest parts of a track so that it's more consistent in level. Also, so glad that Alex is quickly turning into a Mustang guy. Try something called evapor-rust. That stuff basically removes all the rust and puts surfaces back to almost ,almost good usable metal surface. If I remember correctly, the 1999+ cars were converted from a return style fuel system to a returnless system. The tuning tech probably wasn't around back then to properly tune a returnless style system to accomodate the mods so he may have installed a 1998 and older ECU setup (or a custom DFI) and as a result also a return style fuel tank (1997). It's a pretty common thing today with people who want to put a 1996-1998 4V engine (either from a Mark 8 or a Cobra) in a 1999+ 2V or V6 car. Even after the 1993 Fox body ended, the successor cars all the way up to 2004 were basically still a fox body underneath with minor differences.

So I know this car. It was brought to a Blue Oval Racing event back in 02ish? Word spread fast "Hey! That's the SC Cobra R that's making the magazine rounds!" This would have been around the time where there was a national battle of taking 4th gen modular Cobras and seeing how far you could get into the 11s with just bolt-ons. It made 2-3 passes and boom! 300ft of white smoke. They quickly packed it up and left which is understandable but everyone was kind of heartbroken as this was basically the hero car for the community at the time. It came out after the event that it kept breaking serpentines in the burn out box and the white smoke event was catastrophic and folks couldn't wait to see this car's new engine. It wasn't long after that the Terminator arrived on scene and this Cobra R faded into memory.

Another great find Alex !!! As for the low 17k mileage, that was a drag racer. As my father would say, "that engine was run hard and put up wet". That engine has some serious wear and tear on it. 8k was a good price for a great body, just needs a new long block? I bet the total cost of this project could be $20k on the high side.

I am extremely excited for this series! My 2004 cobra is about to be revived from a 2 year slumber due to a blown differential. At 14:50, that’s where the coil pack bolts in on 96-98 cobras which had Coil pack and wires. The 99+ cars had Coil on plugs. The vortech brackets are interchangeable between 96-99 cars, IIRC. Also, do NOT throw away that original motorcraft battery with the sight glass! Refurbish or gift it to someone that will refurbish it! Very cool. Those are hard to come by.

This was a great video and a trip down memory lane. I am the original owner of a 99 cobra with a vortech strim that made 465/410 on the stock bottom end. My car is "1 of the 7" that didn't respond to the Ford HP recall and I got a new long block from them. I have an entire fold of emails from Art Hyde with Ford at the time. The car would barely run 13.99 @99 stock with only mod of 4.10s. The new long block in 00 and the car went 13.5@105. These cars are near and dear to my heart. Slow for now days time but a hot tub time machine. Keep the good content coming.

FWIW - I always recommend you use compressed air to clear the area around spark plugs that face down into a cylinder so unwanted junk doesn't fall into a cylinder. Actually, would apply to anything like spark plugs, like fuel tanks.

Check that PCM to see if it’s older than 99 and has a Moates quarterhorse in it that would be on par with the tuning capabilities at the time. Also that fuel tank was a new returnless setup at the time so they probably went with an older SN95 since tech for that would’ve been available as well. Can’t wait to see more on this thing!

That is a gnarly amount of rust! I use Hydroflouric acid to neautralize rust before painting steel. HYDROFLOURIC ACID will dissolve and neautralize the iron oxide in the cylinders. You can find this chemical at home improvement store labeled "concrete etch", or something similar. This stuff is very reactive with rust and when left in open air will dry to form a layer that is water soluble. Use proper protective equipment and do your research on this chemical. Watching the acid do it's work on the rust is really incredible. Good Luck and God Speed dudes!
