For sure. I have a disc PS5 but 99% of my games are digital and I don't own any movies on disc. I would've happily paid the $300 for this console and just ignored the broken disc drive!

most PS5 must have them issues, mine is the same from day one it was doing my head in PS5 not reading disc, i got my PS5 from Game... remember buying a disc game Sony get no cut, buy from the PS store Sony make 30%... its funny how it seems like Sony dont want discs to work in there machines... i noticed it with the PS4 pro as well... so all i'm getting at is, go for discless.. less money, less pain in the hole.

Cannot thank you enough. My PS5 disc drive stopped working a few months ago with the exact same issue and sound when it tried to read discs. Alway saying unsupported or dirty disc, even though they were all PS4/PS5/4KUHD/Blu-ray discs without a mark on them. Sony wanted $230.00 plus tax to repair it as the warranty period has passed and no local repai shop would look at it for less than $200 so I have just been playing the digital downloads I had up until now. Was able to order a brand new replacement lens from the same seller you used for less than $60.00. Received it in 3 days after purchase and it came brand new in a sealed box as was advertised. Installed it and system is working perfectly now. Thanks

Now I’m tempted to buy a PS5 with a bad disc drive and replace it to save over buying new

I had the disc drive go out on my OG XBOX years ago and had to replace the laser in it. Required some minor soldering (which I was mostly unfamiliar with at the time). Sounds dorky as hell, but when it booted up and read the disc first try was a feeling I'll never forget.

The same thing almost happened to me except my 360 elite console video AV cable went out. I took a replacement cable and used electrical tape, got a signal and my 13 yo self was so happy

Most of the time you can fix them just by adjusting the potentiometer on the laser with a screwdriver and multimeter. I've not once had to completely change the laser on my og xbox's or customer ones

Really cool to see you changed and fixed the disc drive with ease !!!!! I would recommend this video to people who have the same problem or buy a ps5 straight out without a working disc drive. This video will help a lot of people. Great job !!!

Speaking on what you said about the feeling of fixing something, one time I put a green film in my Xbox Series controller for the Xbox button light, and in the process of unhooking one of the wires, I may or may not have broke the wire and the circuit board 😬. I just took an old series x controller and replaced the wire and the board with barely any soldering experience. It was an amazing feeling after a about 3 hours of work.

Your vids are thoroughly enjoyable. Love all the unboxings and seeing what you get. Repair vids would be a welcome addition to your channel. I would never try to do what you do, so I really enjoy seeing how simple it sometimes is. Gives me courage to try some things myself. Thanks, Jacob

I bought a $300 ps5 disk edition from Facebook marketplace. Came with a $220 scuf too. Thought it was a scam but the guy just wanted to get rid of it. No problems on the ps5 or the controller either, I got pretty lucky.

80 percent of the time disk drive issues are caused by loose/corroded ribbon connections. I've fixed 5 by just removing the cables cleaning the pins and putting it back in.

Hey this was ones of my consoles! At least I couldn’t find any similar sales posts to mine. I purchase “broken” consoles and sometimes repair but always resell them. Way higher profit margins than reselling other electronics. Easier to sell as is than repairing it when in bulk. I bought these from an individual that works for an Amazon return auctioneer. Very curious now myself though as to who opened the system prior to you lol. Thanks for posting this video!

Good thing the upcoming PS5 models will have a detachable disc drive. Much easier to replace. But its nice to see its not that hard to replace a laser.

I have had this exact dual monitor stand for about 2 years and it is still holding up amazingly. I def recommend and it's worth the money for sure.

$300 still a pretty decent price even with the broken disk drive. Idk how much the repairs would normally cost but I can’t imagine they’d eclipse the remaining balance to put you over a retail ps5.

no idea about the sony prices but for my xbox series x a broken disc drive after warrenty was going to cost 330 euros to get it fixed by microsoft,ofcourse i told them to shove it where the sun dont shine

I used to replace parts for GameCube and Dreamcast around 10+years ago. Replaced my PS2 Slim laser last year but I still can get it to read DVD games. I even drilled a hole in the bottom so I can access the pot screw without disassembly 😂

Open the drive and move the laser lens back and forth and you should be good to go. The gears in the lens will lockup on some consoles due to Sony using too little lube in the moving lens. Previous owner probably already tried that. If you use a heat gun you can take the stickers off without leaving a residue.

Cleaning the laser lens took me way back lol. I remember taking apart my ps2 and doing the same when I was a kid.

I am actually surprised that it actually worked after repair because I thought surely the seller would have tried changing the laser before selling these ps5's for cheap, but good for you man

Yeah, I thought the same. However, I guess it all depends on how much the seller paid for it. As mentioned, the seller had a bunch of them so probably bought them real cheap as a job lot. They must have just figured on a quick flip by selling them individually.

My PS4 Pro had stopped reading PS4 games years ago, but it still read Blu-ray movies and music CD's. I wasn't sure that it had different components to read games and other media separately, but it was decent to know. I thankfully haven't had that issue with my PS5 but I assume it might be the same way.

Hey I bought one listed exactly the same a week ago! Just started the vid. Arrived yesterday, looked like it had never been used by someone before, no dust or scratches anywhere. Hadn’t been opened before. I tore it down to fix the disc drive, the inside panel was a little weird compared to what I’ve seen on this or other tear downs, I forgot to check if it was a later make. Anyways, I tore down and rebuilt the disc drive, individually testing each piece along the way until I got it all working, luckily not banned either. Happy I got a basically brand new ps5 disc version for $300 now lol

This was satisfying to watch I remember trying to fix my ps5 lmao I jus ended up getting a new one 😂

Common issue with automatic disc drives seems to be not really a dirty laser nowadays, although still nice to clean it every 5 years or so, but someone who puts a game in or is in the process but then, they change their mind LAST second while the drive is pulling it in, and that causes a part of the mechanism to get stuck and maybe even the laser reader to also move to a undefined position. So in reality the issue maybe as simple as that, but as for me, I'm more digital nowadays anyways so if I had that console it would be a pretty big score even without fixing the drive, but with a even the little amount of knowledge of how to disassemble and reassemble, someone can easily fix something like that.

I remember having trouble with my xbox 360 disc drive i had to readjust the laser with a pen or anything long and skinny enough to reach in the back it would last for some days until I had to do it again id definitely go with all digital.

I used to do that with consoles until I kind of just didn't have the money to buy consoles anymore. Selling the parts of the consoles get you way more money than just selling the console by itself. You can sell the box, controller, the shell, power supply all that other stuff. You can even just sell the heat sink and motherboard. You can sell so many parts off of consoles and make way more money

That's awesome man! I never thought to look for a PS5 with a broken drive. That totally makes sense, it's something that has plagued Sony since the PS1. I've gotten so tired of their cheap drives I don't even bother repairing them anymore. My PS2 and PS4 Pro both have broken drives. Hopefully I can find one cheap that isn't banned.

I guess I'm kinda lucky in that my original PS2 still has a drive that works fully. And it was played daily back in the San Andreas days, so it's not down to low use.

I wouldn't completely blame Sony. My ps2 had disk drive issues but so did my xbox 360 and xbox one. It's probably a common issue on consoles in general.

I have the PS5 Digital but I would rather have the disc version even if I have to repair it. I'm surprised on that $300 price for this though. I honestly was hoping the worse especially with that warranty sticker. Can you post the link to the seller?

I’ve been looking at ps5s lately and the physical versions are super expensive but I much rather have them so I can play my old ps4 games and I just like physical games

Ebay is a wild card. You can get consoles in bad condition or good condition. The pricing on consoles are different.

I’m glad I was patient and bought mine at GameStop, newer is better forsure.

Repair videos are useful and if you title them correctly they will help grow your channel a great deal.

I already have a PS5 myself too which I just got this past Christmas, and the PS5 that I have is the standard base model with the optical disc drive which even included a digital voucher for God of War Ragnarök.

100% Has been opened up mate they were clean and delicate with it though which is a good sign Some people buy faulty consoles in bulk like 10 to 20 units they then try to fix it for a profit if not they sell it for the going rate and still make a small profit i know of people right now who have several listed with the same issues they tried a basic fix first and just get their money back basically if they fix 3 out of 10 they make reasonable money

bought mine for like 320€ on ebay. I also ordered a used GT7 Disc. First 3 Times disc unreadable. cleaned the disc. Works like a charm since then.

Crazy prople are selling parts from PS5s, I remember it like yesterday when these were just released.

you can fix that drive issue by resetting the diode to the start position most likely on the drive manually, I did it on 360 many times it had this same issue...the diode just had the wrong track starting position, so the code that runs the diode along the track to read the disk couldn't work properly.

My office uses similar monitor mounts. Ngl the arms are way better than regular stands.
