I bought a Shifter Kart - First Day!!!

Спорт

- This is my first day in a shifter I bought from Dallas Karting Complex. I had never driven one before this day.
- I've had an LO206 for about 2 years so this is my second kart.
- I don't plan on racing the shifter until I get up to speed in it.
- Kart is a 2017 Sodi with a Vortex Rok 125cc 6 speed engine.
- I had to break the new engine in over two sessions so the one on here is the first session where I was able to go as fast as I was comfortable going.
- I have a mic in my helmet connect to my go pro to hear me talk through parts of the session.
- I also included another karter that was in a shifter for the first time and you'll hear what he has to say about it.
0:09 - Drone footage of karts on track
2:00 - New karter
3:16 - New karter thoughts on shifter
4:02 - Shifter kart build
4:53 - My first time driving my shifter
13:14 - My reaction to the shifter

Don't you just love it when you first go out and it's still cold so you wind it up slowly. And then the moment comes where the second carburettor jet/spray nozzle kicks in? Love it. Especially when the tires are heated up and you can bitchslap that thing all out through 90 degree corners

Nice promo for both the Shifter and Dallas Karting Complex. The track is awesome for a rental track and as good or better than most of the kart racing venues here in Central Fl. If I get to Dallas, I will definitely check it out. I wouldn't recommend getting a shifter as your first kart, but as you did it, perfecting your racing skills in rentals then LO206's (or another entry level racing kart) before moving to the shifters is the way to go. Another factor, which you found out quickly, is racing shifters demands serious cardio and commitment to staying in shape if you hope to be competitive in these beasts. Good luck with your new toy mi amigo. Hope to see some shifter racing vids from you soon.

I had an Arrow shifter with a CR 125 and a Hegar electric start (yes electric start). E start was excellent for when you spin off the track and stall, one button and you are on your way. I never raced, and I was one of the slowest people at the track but man was it fun. what people don't realize is the physical fatigue you experience when driving a shifter. Other karts also are fatiguing, But a shifter beats you up. And the two stroke power band i very challenging to control.

I'm looking forward to seeing you begin racing in a shifter kart series. The LO206 commentary about etiquette and clean racing is always great to hear for a novice racer. I recently picked up a part time job as a mechanic at an electric kart rental chain in my area. I was wondering if you have any resources for how to set up a kart's front end and how the setup affects driveability, especially alignment and tire pressure. Things like how camber, caster, tire pressure affect turn in and grip, and how techniques on how to measure these settings on a budget (I don't have a sniper laser alignment tool).

Just now stumbled across this video but compelled to say...Be thankful for what you've got there. That is a beautiful facility and track, worthy of a nationals event. Sodi is hardly an obscure brand these days. You'd be hard-pressed to visit a track in the UK that doesn't have their karts either as rentals or as purchasable. CRG, Tony Kart, and Birel are still big, and, in my opinion, they are still the best qualatatively. But, there's no denying that Sodi's omnipresence and competitive pricing has definitely changed the game in the last 4-5 years.

Oh and by the way...this is short track which is extremely hard to do, a lot of shifting...but to do long track is something else....the speed that you can get up to, around 110+, can scare the crap out of you. A whole new set of skills here...I'm from the NW...look at video from these tracks PIR Portland, the Ridge Washington ST. (scary 200 ft of elevation change), Grass Valley OR, Sanoma CA. to name a few. Many of the great drivers come from these beginings and some drivers secretly still practice in these karts...too many to name. Off to Vegas for the NASCAR 2019...WHOOT!!

@@skylersutton241 : new price, yes. But if you buy second hand you 'll pay the half for a kart of 1 years old. If you don't race in competition i'll suggest a second hand KZ. And yes, its big fun ;-)

No, get a single speed two stroke like and Iame X30 or a Vortex ROK Gp. Shifters aren't meant to be first karts unless your 35 and just want to mess around.

Awesome video! My son started racing 4 stroke B&S at 10 (2003) then went to Yamaha Jr Can on a Birel at 12 then bought a couple Kosmics and he also ran Jr HPV then at 15 he switched to TaG running a Leopard on a Kosmic then switched to an Arrow X1 kart. Loved the Arrow. He quit about 2012 when he was 18 but those 10 years were fun. Raced WKA Man Cup nationals. Tons of fun but not cheap! He also ran a Star Mazda Pro Formula car right after he turned 15. He's 25 now

The track outline, speed and other data is captured by the GoPro (5 and up do this). You have to upload your video using their software and unlock the data you want on the video. There are tutorials online that show you how to do this.

The few times I've gotten to drive a shifter kart or 4 stroke racing kart is one of the few times in my life I can say I was doing something that felt natural; like I was in tune with my surroundings. As corny as that may sound. I've drag raced cars and boats and never had that feeling like I did in a kart.

jdub264 a kz uses much softer compound tyres that will be eaten by the thing. After a race day their no longer competitive. While my TAG I can have a set of tyres that last me 2ish race days and practice days, only then start to drop off
